Tip #95: Stay organized.

Try one method at a time and carefully record on paper how effective it is (the easiest way to do this is to mark off which nights are dry and which are not so that you can see if there is an improvement). If you try several methods at once, you will have no way of knowing which remedies are working and which are not.

Tip #96: Give a method time to work before tossing it aside.

In general, most methods should give you at least some minor result within two weeks. However, some methods may take longer to show effect. Do not be in a rush to try every method. The goal is to help your child, and you do not want to overlook a method that would work just because you want “instant” answers. Where no interaction is a factor, try combining tips to get great results. For example, you can often combine natural or homeopathic alternative therapies with behavior modification. Most tips work well with comfort tips such as protecting sheets. Of course, you do not want to combine medications, but combining behavioral modification with some natural supplement or dietary changes may do the trick. If you are going to be combining remedies, make sure above else that the two methods will not be dangerous together. Then, introduce each therapy to your child one at a time so that your child can get used to each treatment and so that you can observe any adverse effects.

Tip #98: Try simplest methods first.

You want the best for your child, but the best is not always the most complicated or high tech method. With young children, especially, simplest methods are best. They also tend to be the most effective. For example, low-cost moisture detector alarms have very high rates of efficiency, even when compared to high-priced training. Look for inexpensive treatments that are simple enough for your child to understand. If those are ineffective, then you can move on to other methods. If you start with the most complicated gadgets and solutions, you may find yourself spending a lot money than you planned if that first treatment does not work. Plus, if you put too much faith in the latest high-tech solution and your child?s problem is not resolved, both you and your child will have to deal with the disappointment. Keep your expectations realistic (gradual improvement over time) and keep your solutions simple. Both your child and your wallet will thank you for it.

Tip #99: Understand all risks before you begin

Some methods of bedwetting treatment have almost no risks (think of the honey cure or visualization, for example). Some are risky when administered improperly (alternative or holistic medicine, chiropractic therapy) and some are risky (all medications carry risks of side effects). Make sure that you understand what can go wrong with each treatment before you begin it. Make sure that you can cope with the eventuality if it happens. Of course, you should try low-risk options (behavior modification, for example) before higher risk options (such as medication). It makes sense to keep your child safe, especially if the bedwetting issue can be resolved with no possible injury. Move onto riskier methods if the low- risk methods do not seem to be working after a few weeks.

Tip #100: Keep your eye on the big picture

As you browse through this ebook, you may be excited that so many possible solutions exist for bedwetting. However, do not focus on these tips so much that you lose track. Your main goal is to make your child feel comfortable and to help your child feel happy. If you can do this with methods for getting rid of bedwetting, then great. However, putting the focus on your child first means that you will not lose track of your child?s comfort level as your try to help your child stop wetting the bed.

AMISH WAFFLES

2/3 c. all purpose flour
2/3 c. sifted cake flour
1 c. milk
1 3/4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/3 whole eggs, well beaten
3 1/2 tbsp. butter or margarine
3/4 tsp. vanilla extract

TOPPING:

1 c. water
7 tbsp. sugar
1 1/4 tsp. white corn syrup
2 Pinches red food coloring
4 tsp. cornstarch
2/3 whole (3 oz.) raspberry flavored gelatin
5 1/4 sol. oz. frozen blueberries, defrosted
5 1/4 sol. oz. frozen raspberries, defrosted
Vanilla ice cream, optional

Mix batter ingredients together in order just until smooth. Bake in waffle iron according to manufacturer's directions. For topping, combine water, sugar, corn syrup, food coloring and cornstarch in saucepan; cook over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat; add gelatin, stirring until dissolved. Cook, add berries. Serve warm over waffles with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.

Yield: 4 servings.

A Recipe for Simple Syrup.

Here's an easy recipe for simple syrup used in many cocktails.

Put one cup of water in a small saucepan.

Add two cups of sugar.

Heat to a boil while stirring.

Reduce heat and continue to stir until the sugar dissolves.

Find a clean container that will hold at least a cup and a half.

Using a funnel, pour liquid into container.

Seal and store in refrigerator indefinitely.

92. Freeze Foods

When you grocery shop, look for bargains on items that can be frozen. Most people do not even think about shredding block cheese and freezing it. Did you know that you could even freeze eggs?

You can as long as you give them a little room to expand. When ready to use, simply set them out at room temperature. If you find apples on sale, make your own apple pies and freeze them or make applesauce. Many food items can be frozen with no problem. Therefore, the next time you see a great bargain think about freezing. (Dairy products other than cheese do not generally freeze well).

Instead of spending your money on overpriced items at the ballgame, take your own cooler of food. Some professional stadiums no longer allow this so check before going. If you have a son or daughter that plays little league or soccer, this is a great way to save money over paying high concession stand prices.

94. Discount Books

Purchase a discount coupon book, which generally costs around $25. As long as you use it faithfully and base your choices on options featured in the book, you can save hundreds of dollars. These books are great for restaurants, hotels, car rentals, and tons of entertainment and provide great variety and even better discounts.

95. Baby Food

Instead of buying expensive baby food, make your own. You can use fresh vegetables such as peas, green beans, or corn, run it through the blender, and then freeze individual servings in ice cube trays. When it comes time to feed the baby, simply pop out a cube of food, defrost, and you have instant food. This is a real time and money saver.

Most foods can be frozen. In fact, if you make family foods like spaghetti or soups simply make a smaller portion with less salt and spice, puree, freeze just like the vegetables.

96. Squelch the Smoking

This is probably the hardest habit to break but in addition to saving your health, you will also save money. Cigarettes have become quite expensive and if you can quit smoking, you will enjoy breathing easier and having more to put away for a rainy day.

97. Rebate Programs

When you shop, always keep your eyes open for rebate programs. Although filling out the forms and clipping the UPC codes from a box is a hassle, the money you save is worth it.

Bloomin’ Butter Sunflower Cookies

1c Crisco oil
1c granulated sugar
1c powdered sugar
1c Land O’ Lakes butter
2 eggs
1t salt
1t cream of tartar
1t baking soda
4 1/4c all purpose flour

Cream together oil, sugars and butter. Add the eggs to the creamed mixture.

Sift together the salt, cream of tartar, baking soda & flour. Add flour mixture gradually to creamed mixture and mix well. Then add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Chill dough for 1 1/2 hrs.

On lightly floured surface roll out dough to approx. 1/8" thickness.

Cut out with sunflower-shaped cutter. Place onto cookie sheet. Make a circle shaped indentation into center of cookie using a small glass or any round object.

Sprinkle circular area in center of cookie with a mixture of finely ground pecans, cinnamon, and granulated sugar. Place a piece of a slivered almond in each petal of cookie. Sprinkle entire cookie lightly with superfine sugar. To make cookies on a stem, cut a 3/8" wooden dowel various lengths and press one end of a dowel into cookie about 1" from edge of sunflower.

Reinforce by pressing a thin piece of dough on top of dowel. Bake cookies at 375 degrees for approximately 8-10 minutes until lightly browned. Remove from pan carefully and cool on wire racks.
