Chapter 7: Writing and Editing

Text Editors

WARNING: Text editors are *not* the same as word processors; know the difference. A text editor such as NotePad won't put things in the file you can't see. Exception: sometimes another text editor may display a ^M wherever there was a carriage return in the file created by NotePad. This generally has no real effect, as long as you remember to always upload in ASCII. On the other hand, a word processor such as MS?Word or Word Perfect will put all sorts of strange stuff in the file. It's supposed to do that; they are special characters that don't display but are used to control the way a document looks on screen and on paper. These special characters will wreak havoc on a script. It's just not possible to create a properly functioning script with a word processor. Don't even think of using one.

There are plenty of free or inexpensive text editors available. If you don't like the ones that come with Windows, or whatever OS you're using, feel free to use something else.

My personal favorite is Unix program called emacs. It's found on virtually every Unix system. It's included with all Linux distributions. So is "vi", but I didn't learn that one. One of the coolest things about emacs is that it is capable of some basic HTML editing. Plus, it's great for writing computer code because it will "highlight" reserved words (used for commands, etc.) in different colors from the other text. Comments are highlighted in still another color. It checks for mismatched parentheses and "curly braces".

These functions help keep you from writing code that won't work. The reserved word "sub" that signals the beginning of a subroutine is highlighted, along with the name of the subroutine ? if the routine is written legally. Other clues like the presence or absence of bold text tell you when and where there is something seriously wrong with your code.

Bonus Advice: You don't have to take my advice, but you paid for it so here it is. I encourage you to consider installing the Linux operating system on a second hard drive, or even a separate computer. Unlike Windows, it will run very well on an older machine with a less?powerful processor. You'll get a nicely graphical user interface, access to tons of free software from a bunch of sites on the Web and it already comes with emacs and other great tools. You'll get a complete set of Perl files, so you can write, debug and test your scripts without any practical limitations.

Web Video Testimonial Software Plr Software

The Secret to Online Success is Video. The second best kept secret is Testimonials. Together they are an unstoppable force in internet marketing. The secret combination to boost sales incredibly.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text.

A search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English.

You know, when I’ve told people about this method in the past, many misunderstood and thought that you could offer people just about anything for free and they’ll want to send you their glowing feedback.

That couldn’t be further from the truth.

You have to look at the feedback incentive as a product. A product people would actually pay for if it were for sale.

That’s why I recommend you create something of your own instead of just giving people something they can find for free somewhere on the net. And keep in mind that I’m not talking about anything major.

Just a simple 5-10 page report. That’s it.

The best incentive you can offer is a small report people can’t get anywhere else, especially since you aren’t charging them for it. All you’re asking for in exchange is a simple email with their feedback.

I'm not much of a fan of working hard. I'll do it, but only if I don't have a choice. That being said, I find myself working surprisingly hard trying to find the easiest ways to do things and that's the reason I put this report together.

To save you some of the time and effort I've put into working hard to be lazy and still make money online.

What I've found is that even though you may know at least as much as some of your biggest competitors about making money, the reason you may not bank the kind of sales figures they do has a lot to do with a massive amount of leverage.

Leverage is when you can put the efforts of 100's or even 1,000's of other people behind you so they can help push you forward to do things you couldn't do on your own.

Think about it. When was the last time you got an email from a "guru" about his latest product and didn't get at least ten other messages from that "guru's" affiliates telling you about the exact same product?

Am I telling you to create your own product and start an affiliate program? No. That’s too much work.

What I want you to understand is that many of your more successful competitors understand something that guides most of the actions they take in business. What's that? Why work hard by yourself when you can get other people to work hard for you as well?

The MERCHANT and his WIFE are at supper.

WIFE. Our neighbors bought some fine olives to-day. It has been a long time since we have had olives. I am quite hungry for them.

MERCHANT. Now you speak of olives, you put me in mind of the jar which Ali Cogia left with me.

WIFE (pointing to a jar in another part of the room). There is the very jar waiting for him against his return.

MERCHANT. Certainly he must be dead, since he has not returned in all this time. Give me a plate; I will open the jar, and if the olives be good, we will eat them.

WIFE. Pray, husband, do not commit so base an action. You know nothing is more sacred than what is left to one’s care and trust.

MERCHANT. But I am certain All Cogia will never return.

WIFE. And I have a strong feeling that he will. What will he think of your honor if he finds the jar has been opened?

MERCHANT. Surely a jar of olives is not to be guarded so carefully, year after year.

WIFE. That is Ali Cogia’s affair, not ours. Besides, the olives can’t be good after all this time.

MERCHANT (taking a plate). I mean to have a taste of them, at least.

WIFE (indignantly). You are betraying the trust your friend placed in you! I will not remain to witness it.

She leaves the room. The Merchant crosses and takes cover from jar.

MERCHANT (looking in jar). My wife was right—the olives are covered with mould, but those at the bottom may still be good.

He turns the jar up and shakes out the olives. Several gold pieces fall out.

MERCHANT. What is this? Gold pieces! As I live! Gold! gold!

He shakes the jar again; a shower of gold pieces fall.

MERCHANT (dropping the jar in astonishment). A thousand pieces at least!

The top of the jar only was laid with olives! (He puts the gold into his pockets.)

To-night, when my wife is asleep, I will fill the jar entirely with fresh olives, for these show they have been disturbed. And I will make up the jar so that no one, except Ali Cogia himself, will know they have been touched.

How To Sell In Any Market Manual Mrr Ebook

Of course you wouldn’t try to market fancy diamond jewelry to a hobby golfer – but there’s a lot more involved in identifying your target customer. The following are just some of the personal traits that can influence how and what people buy.

Personal Characteristics – Personal characteristics play a big part in determining what and how people will purchase products, so take the time to learn who your target customer is. Who are they? What do they want and why? Consider demographics, race, sex and age when selling to potential customers.

Males and females tend to purchase products and services differently. Males tend to be more practical – “I need this because my other one broke” – while females are typically more emotion-based buyers. Clearly this is not the case for everyone – even individuals may exhibit both characteristics.

Young people’s purchasing habits also vary from adults. Teens may make purchases based on emotions or the availability of cash, while adults make more buying decisions based on needs, wants and financial statistics.

Personal Motives – Motives are defined as internal, energizing forces. Motives orient a person’s activity towards satisfying a need or perhaps achieving a goal. There is a set of actions or motives that affect a person’s decision to purchase – not just one. If marketers learn to identify which motives or set of motives their customers are using, they can better develop a strategy for selling.

For example, if you sell a product that helps people make money online, realize that their primary motive is not to make money. It’s to live the lifestyle and acquire the things that they think that money will give them. This is the underlying force that will drive people to buy your product.

Attitudes – Positive and negative feelings, knowledge regarding an activity or an experience with a product or service can be tangible or intangible. However – it drives perceptions and attitudes about your product or industry.

Individuals develop their attitudes through interactions and experiences with other people. Consumer’s attitudes towards a product or service greatly influence its success or failure in the marketplace. This can also influence the best way to market your product.

Self Defense For Women PLR Ebook

Have a plan. Understand that you could be the victim of a violent crime anywhere at anytime. Think about what you would do in a certain situation (i.e., answering your front door, driving home, taking money out of an ATM)

Assess your surroundings. Understand that most sexual predators and street criminals plan their crimes (at least to some extent), most also look for certain characteristics that make for good targets. It is safe to assume that the assailant has been watching you for a while before he initiates the attack. Act confident and be aware of your surroundings

Do whatever it takes. If the aggressor wants material possessions like your brand new leather coat or the contents in your purse - give them up because they are not with risking a physical confrontation.

Understand that when you feel that you are in imminent threat of harm, you have the right by law to use as much force as necessary to defend yourself from that threat. We suggest that under these conditions you strike first. The assailant has chosen you as his victim because he views you as an easy target, your decision to strike first at him will not be expected.

Remember the street safety steps. When a stranger approaches you in an isolated area and your instincts tell you something isn't right about the situation - always act on your instincts. Maintain at least a 3 - 5 feet distance out of the reach of the aggressor.

Face the aggressor, running is only an option if you can get to a safe place before he catches up to you. Keep your hands free, look at his neck area (do not look down or turn away). If he asks a question, no matter how legitimate it may seem, respond negatively. For example, if he asks for directions to main street - respond with a "no, I can't help you" If he comes up with more questions tell him to leave you alone.

Women are faced with a disadvantage; traditional ways of educating our children are responsible for not allowing girls an opportunity to defend themselves in threatening situations.

Some type of unwanted sexual aggression will victimize currently over 50% of women in Canada. Women can do a great deal to reduce the threat of violence. Empowering young women with the resources to recognize and escape the violence is what we consider an essential life-skill that should be part of the high school curriculum across the nation.

One thing that has not been mentioned yet is about the role passion plays in innovative thinking. It is true thought. You have to have passion about your innovative ideas or you will never get anywhere with them.

You have to feel strongly that your ideas are worthy. You have to believe in yourself and know that your ideas are good. IF you do not stand behind your ideas, then it will be quite hard to get others on board with them.

Being passionate about innovative ideas is not something that you can learn. It is something that comes from the heart. It is something that is uncontrollable.

You have to be able to tell others about your innovative idea and get them excited. It is impossible to do that if you do not have any passion about your product. It is hard to develop passion.

However, if you immediately feel very strongly about an idea you come up with, then chances are it is something worth going with. When you have that immediate passion about something then it is natural and it really is something you believe in.

It is your job to make sure people know about your passion for your idea. It is hard to argue with someone or put down their idea if they seem so passionate about it. Let people know that you really do care about your idea and that you will not be quick to let them push it aside.

Persistence and passion go together when it comes to inventions and ideas. People are quick to ignore or put off things that are new. People will likely not be nearly as interested in your idea as you are, so you have to be ready for that.

You have to keep pushing your idea in front of people. It is the passion that will drive you to do this. So never let go of the passion. Never allow yourself to lose your fight and drive. Always stand behind your idea. Always know what to say - be prepared.

When people come at you with negative remarks or even questions, then you have to be available to answer back. You need to know the ins and outs of your idea and you have to be able to explain every detail so you can talk to others about it.

Do not forget about passion when it comes to innovative thinking. If you forget the passion then you will likely end up never getting your idea recognized for the brilliance they are.
