This one is probably the single toughest one to overcome. If your boss is a bad one, things probably will not improve. Unfortunately, someone has got to be in charge in any organization, and when your boss is incompetent or just unreasonable or biased, you are going to be in for a long, tough slog each day.

If you boss is merely incompetent, the best thing you can do is to provide as much help to him as you can. Not only will you make yourself invaluable to him, you will also gradually learn his job—thus positioning yourself to move up in this, or a different organization. The greateryour skill set, the greater your flexibility when it comes to finding a more challenging and fulfilling employment opportunity!

If, on the other hand, your boss is unreasonable and/or biased, you have several strategies available—none of them good ones. You can buckle down and take the abuse; do the job as best you can and hope that he notices your value; you can start looking for another job; you can go over his head and hope that his boss might help; or you can seek legal action.

Keep in mind that your boss's boss may well not care if he is abusive towards you. The higher ups in a company tend to be bottom line oriented, and if your boss's numbers are good, your unhappiness may just be the price of doing business to them. If you are going to fight, keep in mind that there is a very good chance that you are going to lose. Understand the risks before you make the attempt! Have you reached a point where keeping your sanity mandates that you take the risk?

Your mantra (if you choose to fight) is DOCUMENT DOCUMENT DOCUMENT. Write everything down. Keep a journal of what's going on, every time you have contact with your boss, note it. Keeping a record will also enable you to cover your backside if things do get out of hand. Protect yourself.

And if you're wondering—yes, the pancake was sold at auction. We don't yet know if the demon took up residence with the new pancake owner.

When publishing your own designs, projects and/or patterns, you must first make sure that you are never infringing on someone else’s copyrights.

Many times I have seen crafters “adapt” a pre-existing pattern, and then call the project their own creation.

Making a few changes to another’s pattern, project or instructions does not make you the owner of the changed design no more than if I were to paint your house for you and call it mine just because I made a change to it.

Your house is your home, no matter what changes another makes, and others creations, patterns and projects are their own no matter what changes you may make to the finished product.

This is not only illegal it’s also dishonest and just plain wrong. For a project or pattern to be completely yours, then you need to design it from scratch completely, before you can proudly call yourself the owner of the projects instructions, and before you can claim the copyrights for yourself.

Yes I also know most crafters do not get caught, and some even brag about this on various crafting boards. Many even encourage this as a method for “quick creation” for projects that they can develop fast for submission to publications.

People who do this, or encourage others to do this are thieves plain and simple.

Don’t be a thief, work honestly and it won’t bite you in the rear when you least expect it to.

If you use this method of stealing another’s work, you never know when you could find yourself facing severe penalties and a lawsuit that you probably cannot afford. The only way to protect yourself from suit is to make sure that you only use your own creations and original designs.

Chapter 7 Biofuel

Biofuel isn’t one of the well known types of renewable energy but an important one to understand. The process begins when plants to through photosynthesis. There is chemical energy stored inside of it that can be released. What they create is a type of biomass and that can be turned into fuel.

It can then be burned in combustible engines. There is still plenty of research that needs to be done in the area of biofuel. The process right now of converting it isn’t as effective as it should be. It is also extremely time consuming and expensive to do so.

Biofuel can be in the form of a liquid or a solid. Vegetable oil that is used as an alternative fuel source for some vehicles out there is a type of liquid biofuel. It can be natural or it can be reprocessed after it has been used. Some restaurants give their used vegetable oil to those that burn Biodiesel in their vehicles. Once it has been cleaned they are able to use it without harming their vehicle.

Some types of food items are grown in higher supply than the demand just so that ethanol can be produced. It is usually mixed with about 15% regular gasoline in order to make the mix work. It seems that many in the business of growing such food items though don’t always agree with this use of it. They feel the foods should be used to feed those in need.

Biofuel is most commonly found in the form of a solid though. For example burning wood falls into this category. You can use it to cook with and to heat your home instead of relying upon natural gas. The downside though is that this can emit dangerous elements into the environment.

There is ongoing testing where the variables are being controlled right now in the area of biofuel. It is believed this type of renewable energy could one day be a breakthrough in the area of supplying fuel for our vehicles. Look for great things to be coming up in this area in the future.
