Dear WordPress Website Owner,
What happens when a new visitor gets to the end of your blog post?
Ideally, of course, you want her to read more of you articles, subscribe to your mailing list, click an ad, or maybe just leave a comment. But more often than not, what she actually does is leave.
Sure, you've got all kinds of enticing stuff lined up, and it's all designed to grab her attention and compel her to take action.
But just like with sidebar ads, we're becoming blind to the array of options that appear at the end of blog posts. Or worse, there's so much going on that we can't make a decision and we simply click away.
Before we talk about an easy way to keep your readers on your site, though, let's be perfectly clear about why...

Perceptions
A big chunk of your client’s reputation is the perceptions they create with their products, service, and brand image. We want to control this perception, and at the start, we do. But as time passes, perceptions change and must be updated and nurtured.
Remember, for the purpose of reputation management, we want to have a consistent mission and message across all our efforts. This is true with your own brand, and plays a role in your marketing, which we’ll get into shortly.
A positive yelp review of a business from 2008 might be helpful, but if the next one is in 2012, and is negative; it will deter those who read the review.
Also, site profiles and ’about us’ pages that aren’t current reflect badly on the brand.
You want your clients to have a boilerplate or summary paragraph that links to their various properties.
Example: Joe's Pizza is based in Chicago, IL and has been serving the windy city with quality wholesome foods since 1954. Join us on Facebook.com (link to profile) and Twitter (link) or visit our blog (link) for the latest news and specials.
The above would also be an acceptable description on industry or association sites that Joe might belong to.
Marketing Reputation Services
Since you are offering RM services to clients, you are now a marketer, congrats! You're also a salesman or woman AND a business professional. As such, you'll be selling yourself to local businesses on the fact that you perform services that;
Increase favorable visibility of the client business
Proactively defeat online negativity by supplying key information
Grow and strengthen the consumer to business relationship
Provide social proof of quality products & services
Remember the list above! You will use this in your sales pitch, and as a response that you state when people ask what you do, and how it helps.
Targeting
You must choose an industry, or set of industries to target with Reputation Management services.
The safe bet is to go with what you know. If you have experience in a particular industry then you'll be suited to know what that audience is looking for in product or service.
Otherwise, you'll have to learn everything there is to know about a business you intend to sell to.
There are a few low-hanging industries that are just too common sense to ignore.
Family Food Service
Nightlife Entertainment
Cleaning Services
Pool Maintenance
Roofing & Gutters
Contractors
As such, these markets may also be heavily leveraged by competitors. Only by talking with prospects will you get a feel for your market.
Just about every client will fall into two categories. Those who generally want to fix the problems behind negative reviews, and those who just want the negative press to go away, never to be found again.
While the latter is not entirely possible, we're mainly interested in those who want to fix problems and do the right thing by their customers.
Still, you will receive pressure by those who will want to bury bad reviews and on some sites you can. With paid SEO, this can usually be accomplished with an abundance of paid links to favorable content & reviews. But it will cost the client an additional monthly budget beyond what it takes you, the marketer, to setup their presence and fix their website.
If they are willing to pay, why not do the work, right?
Truth is, said work is easily outsourced, and relatively inexpensive. We'll worry about delivery a bit later in the course. For now, let’s talk sales...
Message
I’ve delivered the sales message throughout the first half of this course. Did you pick up on it?
We already know what we do, where we do it, and what the results are. To refine our sales pitch, all that remains is to word it properly, and pick a price point.
Let’s summarize what we’re doing for clients and how we’ll present ourselves;
[Your Company] augments and improves the local business' online reputation and presence. We provide cultivation of positive reviews and other services that are essential for growth. You will also use the above as an opening statement.

Engaging The Presell Details!
Let's talk about ‘Engaging the Presell'. Now, I could have basically shown you the whole sales persuasion stuff; that's easy, but it's really not about that. It's all about you doing simple things that connect to people in a human way. For instance, asking questions when you don't know, connecting and laughing with people, discussing with them. And I’m talking about your passionate group of speciDic people in a forum, in a group, whatever it might be. It's also about answering questions where you can and making people laugh, having that overall, real connection with people that matter.
See, the reality is about getting the people that matter. The reason that's important, and understand this very clearly, the reason that's important is because if you are not engaging with people at a basic decent human level, it's going to be hard for them to trust you in what you’re doing. You have to stand out, and here’s a reality factor: it's not that hard. Hey, people buy from people.
Here’s another little secret, that's really not a secret but it's real. If you can just talk to people, connect with them, do you realize that 99% of your competition isn’t doing that? Here’s another thing, when you’re differentiating from your competition and doing that discussion, engagement, asking questions, answering, talking to people, laughing, do you realize how much of your trust and authority builds up in that group? A lot, a whole lot; especially when they discover you have a solution to a painful problem.
That's really easy for people to connect with you immediately. For instance, if your name is Bob and they’re like, “Bob has that solution. Did you hear about that?” They will be more than glad to share with other people those solutions. That's what it's all about, connecting with those solutions. Those people who need that connection. Well, how do they do that? You've got to build up your trust factor. I'm not talking about sneaky ways in selling. I'm talking about asking questions, answering questions. Making them laugh and connecting with them, making them immediately available that you can help them, that you are a contributor to that group.
Now, of course, yes, you want to introduce a beta, you want to grow something within that audience, that group. The easiest way to do that of course is if that group has some form of advertising opportunities, yes, or signatures in the forum that you can lead them to, yes.
But we’re not talking about that, are we? No, we’re not. We’re talking about that other way of doing things. In other words, it’s one way to do it that way where you’re connecting and doing the advertising and so on, that’s great. But what about talking with them one-on-one in chat and saying, “Hey, would you try this out as a beta and would you be willing to give me some feedback on it?”
Now, the first couple of sales you have may not actually be sales. Maybe bringing people in so they can give you some strong feedback on it and some insight. From there on, it is absolutely imperative that you begin the conversation, and keep the conversation going, where you’re asking, you’re discussing, where you are really connecting with answers. The whole idea is that the more people you connect with automatically, the more opportunities you have to grow.
Let’s talk about ‘Selling’ in the next section. I’m not talking about selling in a way that is what you expect out of something that’s cheesy or underhanded or psychological, but real ways to connect with people so they totally get it and you can launch an incredible opportunity to go beta and connect with a group of people. You end up building your own tribe.
SELLING
So far we’ve been talking about how to build and connect with a group of passionate people. We haven’t talked about purchasing. Now we’re on the selling part. I want you to understand this isn’t selling. If you’ve noticed throughout this entire program, there hasn’t been any sneaky tricks or tactics, it’s about connecting with people and genuinely helping them. That’s the important part and that’s what I want you to understand. But this, if you don’t get this part, you just have a community, you don’t have a corporation. You are not earning money, you’re just basically earning a lot of respects and hugs and I guess that’s great, but that doesn’t keep your lights on or keep your phone ringing or food in your mouth. Does it? No, it doesn’t.
Here’s a reality point for you, that passion is important because not only should you be happy but they should see your happiness and love for what you do then they’ll want to work with you. ‘They’ meaning your prospects and clients because they’ll see it.
They also understand in passion that there’s a connection to the trillion dollar industry that’s out there. The same industry that’s making people hands over foot, giving them the lifestyle they want.
Then when we talk about targeting we talk about finding a specific area of your passion and the painful problems and really finding the people who are competing in that market right now who are your leading people in that specific area selling that solution and how to differentiate from them and how to engage with the people in that specific area in a way where you’re asking and discussing, where you’re connecting and answering, where you’re laughing, where you’re making that connection.
Well now, it gets a little more interesting. We’re talking about selling, and not selling like some sort of sleazy car sales person, we’re talking about real ways where you connect to people. Not tricky little gimmicky ways or loophole ways. No, we’re talking about people connecting with people, and hopefully you feel that by this point. But here’s where 99% of the people will stop. They’ll build up that passion, they’ll know their target audience, oh they’ll know the painful problem and then they’ll know who’s selling it and know that they can differentiate, and begin to engage people and then they just stop.

What happens to all those used cell phones that people have when they upgrade to a new one or change plans or providers? They usually get thrown in a drawer somewhere where they will remain for years. However, on eBay, there is a thriving market for used cell phones of every type imaginable.
Since many people change phones every year there is always a steady supply of perfectly good used cell phones. Many of them are new models that have only been out for a few months or a year at the most.
It's amazing that these phones, which most people just toss away, can bring $50, $75, $100 or even more. The sell through rate for used cell phones on eBay is very high -- 76.9% at the time of this writing.
How do you find used cell phones?
First off, you probably have two or three lying around your house that you don't use but didn't really want to throw away because your mother taught you that if it isn't broken, then you shouldn't throw it away. Chances are, your friends also have some cell phones taking up space at their houses.
Like everyone else, you probably also have that one friend that upgrades the minute something new comes out, even if their current phone is two weeks old. Your friends will thank you for getting one more piece of clutter out of their lives.
Another way to get used cell phones on a consistent basis is to place a classified ad in the newspaper that states that you pay cash for used cell phones. Do some research on how much used cell phones are generally selling for on eBay, and then set a price that is about 1/5 that amount. So, for a phone that sells for $75.00 on eBay I would pay no more then $15.00. You can add a little extra if the phone is a great model and subtract a little if it is nothing special. This way, people get a few dollars in their pocket for their used cell phones (and they don't have to feel guilty about their mom giving them a hard time for throwing away a perfectly useful item).
You can also set yourself up as a cell phone recycler and make money from other people's used cell phones in your area.
Study the different cell phones that are selling on eBay and compile a list of all the cell phones that sell well along with their final selling prices.
Now, make another list of each model of phone and the highest price paid divided by five. This is your list of cell phones you will buy and what you will pay for each. You will essentially be paying 20% of the maximum price you will receive.
What you are doing is setting yourself up as a Cell Phone Recycler.
Here is how to collect cell phones...
Contact a worthwhile charity in your area. Charities for children work best so let's use the local Juvenile Diabetes Foundation as an example.
Phone them and ask to speak to the person responsible for fund raising.
When you reach the correct person, explain you are in the cell phone recycling business and you would like to make a donation for every cell phone you collect to the local chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
Explain that you will do all the collecting and all you need from him is the go ahead to use the name of the charity in your collection efforts.
Also explain by collecting the phones, you are helping to keep potentially hazardous materials out of the environment.
Finally, explain you will donate between $1.00 and $20.00 for each phone depending on the model and brand. Once you get the go ahead from the charity you are all set to begin collecting.
There are a couple of ways to handle this:
One way is to have some 1/3 flyers (i.e.: 3 flyers to a page) printed up explaining Acme Cell Phone Recycling (whatever name you decide to use) is donating up to $20.00 for every used cell phone the charity collects.
Along with the flyer include a large clear plastic bag. You can get these bags at Office Depot or Office Max. Explain they can put the cell phone in the baggie and place it outside at their mail box and you will pick it up the next day so as not to bother them.
Another way you can collect is by teaming up with a local Dry Cleaner or high traffic retail store and offer a special discount card available only to people who donate a cell phone. You can place a collection box in the dry cleaners or retail stores' location.
Used cell phones are a booming niche market. Be sure to spend some time on eBay researching the market and then go for it. Get started now and you can have a great income stream in no time.
My Town Booklet
Here is a neat opportunity for someone who lives in a small town or community.
Jim Erskine self-published a simple little booklet in his community about -Christmas.
Actually, it wasn't just about Christmas. It was about Christmas a long time ago -- the way it used to be celebrated. And, it wasn't just about how it used to be celebrated. Instead, it was how it used to be celebrated in his home town (Bowling Green, KY).
Physically, this little book was nothing fancy -- just a 40 page, 8.5" x 5.5" format saddle-stitched booklet which he had printed at a local print shop. But that didn't matter. What made it appealing to folks in his community wasn't the production quality of the book -- it was what was INSIDE that counted.
Inside his book were accounts and stories about Christmas -- 50 years... 75 years... 100 years ago and even earlier -- which took place right there in Bowling Green. Nothing earth-shaking, mind you -- just reports of parties and celebrations that were held... interesting anecdotes.... prices of Christmas gifts from local department stores 75 years ago... kids' letters to Santa Claus which had been printed in the paper... that sort of thing. The book was also well illustrated with some wonderful vintage holiday ads and illustrations used by local businesses in the area way back when.
