5 Spur Their Passion For Collecting

Everyone associates collecting with antiques and other niche markets. But, the truth is that every market can use the dynamics of the desire to amass collections of things to spur sales. If you don't believe that then you weren't around when the Beanie Babies craze hit the public. Who on earth would have believed grown adults would run around collecting little creatures made of stuffed bean bags? It became a national craze and those little buggers weren't cheap!

The moral of the story there is that if a manufacturer can create a collecting demand for a product that serves no useful purpose, had a unique and sometimes odd look about them, and you can't even eat or invest it, then how much more can you spur the passion for collecting for items that even have additional reasons to buy? Obviously, collecting isn't just for Beanie Babies or antiques, it's for everything and everyone.
The Strategy

So, even if you are selling bumper stickers or watches, it doesn't matter. You can use this strategy to increase your sales. Don't believe that just because one person has bought one model, it doesn't mean they may not be interested in other models. In fact, people who buy watches, for instance, will often buy several models and collect them for different occasions. Maybe they want a dress watch for when they are at classy occasions. Maybe they want a fun and flirty one for parties and another more professional-looking one for the office. You can sell them all three! Isn't that a great way to boost your sales?

So, the thing you want to do for this strategy is to target your existing customers. That's right, this is a strategy that is going to bring out the collecting bug in those people that have already shown an interest in your products. In order to get people to start collecting them, you need to start highlighting the collectible nature of your product. Why would someone want to collect them? Who else is collecting them? Can you display them on a shelf? Are they great to own various styles? What are the benefits of collecting your products?

If you ever watch QVC, you will see the way they tout many of their items as collectibles. They will take a call and the person on the other line will tell them how much they love the product that they've bought several different models! Then, they start listing either their pride in owning such a great collection and how it good it makes them feel, or they start listing all the reasons for why owning many makes sense.

The Psychology

You would think that the act of collecting is stimulated because of greed, but it isn't. Collecting falls into it's own psychological niche whereby the collector receives a great deal of pleasure and pride from owning many different models of a particular item. It's not because they are unconsciously trying to save up for poor economic times, as in greed, because even things that have no intrinsic function are collected and enjoyed by many people. So, why do people collect things that may not even have any utility in their lives?

If you've ever collected pennies as a youngster, you know that collecting gives one a sense of achievement. Every new penny you find and fit into its pouch gives you pleasure and a feeling of achievement. When the entire collection is done, you can also show that collection off to your friends for them to admire your achievement as well.

In some cases, the history or uniqueness of the collection can also be a source of great pleasure for collectors. That's why people sometimes collect salt shakers in various styles, not necessarily because they need more than one set of salt shakers in their home. Instead, the uniqueness and variety of the pieces bring out great pleasure in the collector who becomes fascinated by each new variation they can add to their collection.

The emotional investment in the collection grows as the collection grows. It becomes a bigger part of the collector's life and may even get a prominent position of display in the home. It becomes a large source of pride. And, once that addiction sets in the collector may not be able to help themselves and be purchasing new items that are far more expensive than when they first started, just to round out their collection. By that time, you almost don't even have to have a reason to sell a collector on a particular piece if the emotional impact of the piece screams out to them "must have!" And, that's the type of enthusiasm and excitement you want associated with your products because it will lead to residual sales that you can count on.

The Implementation

It's funny, but this strategy takes a little setup to implement. If you think about it, why did you get into collecting pennies when you were a kid? Would you have done it if they didn't sell those neat little sleeves with all the dates on each slot that you needed to collect to have the complete collection? So, part of implementing this strategy is to simply offer a display case that people can use to track which items they still need to buy to complete their collection and to give a little history of the entire collection.

You can even offer limited quantities of a specific product and increase the collectible status. That way you can even start by charging more for that product, because it is a limited edition. This is one way to manipulate the perceived value while not really changing the intrinsic value due to the collecting strategy.

Always remember to place the bug in your customer's ears that this is a collectible item. You can send them a display case for free with the purchase of more than one item in the collection. You can highlight how other collections you've offered in the past have increased in value in the secondary market. This will give the idea to your customers that they are buying something that will increase in worth and it becomes "an investment."

Essential Tool #4: Quality Information That Encourages Action

Once you have a domain and website up and running, it's time to work on plugging in quality, informative and relevant content that will help potential customers make the decision to purchase the product through your affiliate link.

Reviews need to be written so that they demonstrate to potential customers that you have personally evaluated the product, and have experience using the material. Potential customers don't want to read reviews from affiliates, when they believe that the only reason you are recommending a product, is because you will earn a commission from doing so.

While you always want to be transparent and comply with FTC regulations that stipulate that your visitors must be informed that you are compensated for any purchases made - you can still position yourself as an honest and reliable source of information by creating full featured reviews that highlight both the pros' and con's of purchasing and using the product.

The best, most successful reviews are always written from a customer’s perspective. They're designed to communicate directly with potential customers by getting into their frame of mind, and addressing the questions and concerns that they have. This means that you need to know your market!

When you understand your market, you will be able to create compelling reviews and information pages that clearly address any potential concerns, and when you do that, you lower the wall of resistance, and are able to create high converting affiliate campaigns.

When creating your website prior to launch, you'll want to evaluate the product so you can write detailed descriptions and reviews about the upcoming launch.

Give people a unique perspective on the product; let them know how you truly feel about the product, and whether the brand promise is fulfilled.

You never want to promote products that you haven't evaluated, or that you don't feel will live up to the buyer’s expectations.

Remember, every product you promote reflects your brand ethic, and demonstrates to customers whether you have their best interests at heart, so be cautious when promoting high-ticket items.

You want to push people towards products that will ultimately help them achieve their goals, so that they will purchase through your campaign again, in the future.

Set yourself apart, by focusing on promoting products from honest, experienced, and reputable sellers. Your customers will thank you for it!

Essential Tool #5: Secure Web 2.0 Properties

You want to create optimized web pages that all link back to your main website, or in the event you don't have a website of your own, create one main hub and have all additional feeder sites point to your main "money page".

The key to effectively using Web 2.0 properties is to boost your ranking within the search engines through keyword-optimized content. Since these Web 2.0 properties are considered authority sites, you'll gain immediate backlinks and "SEO juice" just by creating quality pages within these free community sites.

The higher you rank in Google on launch day, the more money you'll make from direct commissions - it's as simple as that! You only need a handful of original, high quality articles focusing on the product or in the event you don't have enough information about the product, you can simply create articles around the subject matter.

For example: When I was promoting a training course on website flipping, instead of writing about the product that I hadn't yet evaluated, I hired a freelancer to write 10 articles focusing on new website flippers.

This way, I could begin submitting content immediately to gain positioning within the search engines. As I later evaluated the product, I adjusted the content to better fit (and promote) the niche market. In many cases, you can leave your content as is, and just add your affiliate link to the page when it gets closer to launch day.

Make sure you check out the affiliate program terms, so that you can identify whether you are credited for all future sales immediately (by a cookie set with each referred visit), or whether you are only credited for sales that take place within a specific time frame.

You also want to know whether the affiliate program is set up to credit the first referral, or whether another affiliate can override your referral in the event a potential customer who has clicked on your affiliate link later clicks on another.

It's important that you are credited for all of your promotional work, and the majority of merchants will reward the "first referral" with the credit of the sale but make sure you verify this before setting up your campaigns.

You might have come across a website where the affiliate instructed you to remove your cookies and clear your cache before clicking on their link. They do this so that in the event you were originally referred by another affiliate, that affiliate link is wiped out from your machine. The only time this method should be used is in the event that you are offering a bonus to potential customers, and you want to make sure that they purchase through your affiliate link, otherwise play fair... If another affiliate has worked hard to secure a referral, don't swipe it from them!

She introduced the pair at a dinner party she hosted. Shevell is actually her niece. The couple hit it off well that night and dated for four years before they tied the knot. Shevell is a cancer survivor and also previously divorced so she relishes every moment of being with such a remarkable guy by her side.

Reese Witherspoon & Jim Toth

The first marriage for Witherspoon was with another actor, Ryan Philippe. After many years together and two children, they went their separate ways. Next, she was linked with hot actor Jake Gyllenhaal. These high profile matches though didn’t work well for her.

Witherspoon is now married to a non-celebrity, Jim Toth. He is a talent agent. They actually met at a party when a drunk man approached Witherspoon. Toth went over and apologized for the behavior of his friend.

She was impressed that he was so polite and that he did what he could at that point to take care of his drunken friend. At the same time, he wanted to make sure she wasn’t being bothered.

Vince Vaughn and Kayla Weber

How To Survive The End Of The World MRR Ebook

Chapter 11 General Survival Skills

You will need some general survival skills in order to help you get through such a crisis situation. Use this chapter as a checklist to help you get thinks in order. If you don’t feel confident that you have the right skills for general survival, you need to make it a priority to develop them. Any weak link in your plan can result in you not making it.

Plan for Anything to Happen

There are plenty of “what ifs” to consider when it comes to the end of the world. With that in mind, you really need to be prepared for anything. In reality, it doesn’t matter if it is a chemical warfare situation or an alien invasion. You need to have a plan that is solid and that you can follow through with no matter what.

That also means you have more than just a Plan A to work with. Think about the variables along the way. For example, in a previous chapter we covered transportation. Location, circumstances, and even time of the year can all influence what you decide to go with.

Get vour Supplies Ready

Don’t say that someday you will get your supplies ready. Make it a top priority so that you can have peace of mind that you do have everything ready to go in order to get results if you need them. In a previous chapter you will find a list of all the essential items you should have on hand. If you have others you would like to add, that is fine, but don’t leave out any of the listed essentials.

Rationing Supplies

Your overall plan should include how to ration your supplies. Since you have no idea how long you will need to depend in them, you need to make sure food and water isn’t being wasted. The long stretch of time without things to do can get the best of people. It can also make them reach for food or water when they really aren’t hungry or thirsty.

They may be doing this out of survival mode, and they need to train their mind to be sensible about it. A schedule of what will be consumed, how much will be consumed, and how food will be prepared is important. This also prevents people from fighting over supplies.

Don’t skip meals or go without water through in order to save it. You are going to need to keep your immune system as healthy as possible. You can’t do that if you aren’t giving your body what it needs.

Rotate and Inventory Supplies at Regular Intervals

From time to time, you need to rotate your inventory of supplies. This is very important with food and with batteries. Make sure items you have such as flashlights and radios work properly. You can consume the food items and use the batteries in your home or business. As a rule of thumb, don’t remove anything from your supplies until you have a replacement for it.

Keep an inventory of your supplies so that you always know what you should have. It is also recommended to keep items in different locations. For example, don’t store all of your food and water in one area of the basement. If there is a problem such as structural damage, you may not be able to access that part of your home. Those supplies would be completely off limits to you.

Communicate your Plan of Action with all Parties Involved

You can’t be the only one that knows of the plan of action you have for an end of the world scenario. Those that will be with you need to know what their role will be. In a future chapter, we will cover creating alliances and the dynamics that creates for your overall survival.

However, what will you do if there is imminent danger and your kids are at school, you are at work, and your spouse is running errands? A plan of action that ensures everyone can get into contact with each other and get to the meeting spot is important. The last thing you need is the stress of not knowing if someone you love and care about is okay or not.

Trust vour Gut

You are going to have to make some life altering decisions, and you can’t be second guessing yourself. Trust your gut instincts and do what you must to survive. This can include taking actions you normally would never be engaged in during the normal course of your life as you know it today. Make decisions based on the information you have in front of you because time may not be a commodity you have lots of.

Basic First Aid

Access to efficient medical care can be difficult during a time of crisis. Learning basic first aid can help you to take care of your needs and those of your family during an emergency situation. A fully stocked first aid kit as previously mentioned is crucial. However, those items aren’t going to be much good to you if you don’t really know how to use them.

Believe you can do it

This is the time for you to fully believe in yourself 100%. Your survival depends on you taking risks, being brave, and going the distance. If you aren’t confident that you can do it, you are putting yourself and those around you in a dangerous situation. Focus on the best outcome you want from any given situation, not on the worst case possibility.

People Skills

If you are going to be a leader in a crusade to survive, you have to show people you can be trusted. You have to be kind, direct, and you have to be able to delegate responsibilities. Effectively being able to communicate with others is very important if you going to get them to want to follow you. A positive attitude, showing you care, and being fair will draw people to you like a magnet.

You can’t force them to follow your directions. They may resent that they have to do what you say in order to share your food, water, and shelter. This can create internal disruptions that will weaken the overall ability to survive. With that in mind, be very selective about who you work with and who you protect with an end of the world scenario.

Send In The Drones MRR Ebook

Ebook Sample Content Preview:

Chapter 8 The Future of Drones

Drones seem to be here to stay, not just a passing trend. As mentioned the regulations are changing for them to be used commercially. They are used widely by the military and they are also used by private people. The demand for them will likely increase in the future.

Fail Safe Issue

Drones continue to be very advanced. Who has the ownership rights to drones that end up in private locations? Recently, a man in Denver realized his drone had drifted away. So he put up fliers around town so that anyone who may spot it can let him know.

The value of the drone is $2,000 plus another $400 for the camera installed on it. All he is left with is the transmitter. This was also what brought to the attention of consumers that there can be some glitches in the technology for drones. When the fail safe button is pushed, the drone is supposed to return to the takeoff spot.

That is why this man, who had lost sight of his drown by that point, pushed the fail safe. Then he went back to the launch area, expecting it to be there. It wasn’t, and he assumed it soon would be. However, it never happened and he feels like the company owes him an explanation.

He isn’t the only one with such a complaint though. There are numerous forums and reviews online about this very issue. This means it is a problem with the drones, not with the user.

With this negative publicity out there, manufacturers of drones have no choice but to make some better designs and to get them tested. They don’t want sales of these devices to slow down due to people worrying about their investment getting away from them and there is nothing they can do about it.

Noise

There have been complaints about the noise drones create. They are quite loud and that can be disruptive to those around them. People have complained about them to their local officials, to state representatives, and even to the Federal government. As a result, we will likely see noise reduction as part of the future for drones.

Commercial Use

We touched on this in a previous chapter, but it is worth addressing here too. The future of drones is likely going to really grow in the commercial sector in the coming years. This is due to the fact that the FFA regulations that ban them from such use right now will be either modified or lifted.

Price

It is anticipated that the price tag associated with drones will decrease around 2015. If that is true, then there will likely be more of them in use. For some consumers, it is that current cost that prevents them from making the investment.

Facebook may Buy Titan Aerospace

The number of people that are familiar with the social media site, Facebook, grows all the time. They are in negations to buy Titan Aerospace with a price tag of $60 million. Why would they have such an interest? It is believed it would allow them to give people access to Facebook even where there isn’t any internet access.

The buyout would then move into the next phase which is creating about 11,000 aerial drones. The model could be the popular Solara 60 which can hold up to 250 pounds. They are solar charged and they can remain at an altitude of about 65,000 feet for a period of up to 5 years.

CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, believes the use of drones could be the way to break down the walls for internet access in countries where they haven’t been able to. He also feels that this could create up to 140 million new jobs and also get more than 160 million people to end a life of poverty that they are currently experiencing.

Protecting the Boarders

Illegal immigration from other continues into the US continues to be a serious problem. The conditions for many of those immigrants are terrible too. They often hide in the heat and they don’t get enough food or water on the journey. Those that do make it into the USA can create a stir due to the immigration laws.

Drones are used along with manpower to protect the boarders located to the North, South, and Southeast of the US. While there have been some pilot programs in place, a few of the drones have actually crashed. This means that some improvements will need to be done if this resource is going to be a reliable method of keeping illegals from crossing the border.

Projections

According the FAA, there will be smaller drones that become part of the airspace in the USA. By 2017, it is estimated that these micro drones will be everywhere. There may be as many as 20,000 of them by that point in time.

There are about 56 different government agencies that use drones. There are 63 active drone sites where they can be used. This doesn’t include the 6 testing locations that were mentioned in a previous chapter. There are plenty of experts that believe the 21 Century is going to be the era of drones rather than manned aircraft. It will change the world responds on many levels.

Super Affiliate Secrets MRR Ebook

Ebook Sample Content Preview:

Search engine optimization is certainly a buzz-phrase these days. It includes any effort to make a site more visible in search engines including content development, keyword usage and other elements. For affiliate marketers, one of the primary means of SEO flows naturally from pay-per-click advertising.

The more traffic a site gets, the more search engines will regard it as a good site. This means that all the traffic generated from the pay-per-click campaign feeds in to the search engine optimization effort.

Some affiliate marketers spend a great deal of time on other SEO efforts and some do not.

It's really up to the individual marketer. Some successful affiliate marketers rely entirely on the traffic their paid advertising drives to the site for their SEO and get good results from doing so.

Remember that good content is a major part of SEO today and that keywords and other meta-tag dependent methods have diminished in importance.

One thing to avoid is any sort of attempt to "trick" a search engine. A common example of this is putting text which is the same color as is the background on a page in an effort to "stuff" keywords. Search engines catch on to this, and other tricks, very fast. Once they do, count on the site being eliminated from the index. Read the various policies of the search engines and follow them to the letter. Provided that there's good content on one's site, expect to be rewarded with good placement after the site has been around long enough to attract a decent amount of traffic.

Email Lists

For many affiliate marketers, email lists constitute their second-most important form of marketing, behind pay-per-click advertising. Getting a good list and properly managing it are imperative concerns in making a successful affiliate marketing site.

Offering a newsletter to visitors is a great way to build a list. The best spot in which to place the sign-up link is usually the upper right-hand side of the page. This tends to make it very visible and not easily confused with the navigation which is typically at the top or left-hand side of the page. If one's content is good, clients will likely find some potential value in signing up for the newsletter.

Once one has their list together, be sure not to saturate the subscribers with advertisements. There is probably nothing less attractive than this pitfall and it has the effect of making the marketer come off as if they were spamming their clients which is definitely something to be avoided.

Send out newsletters with relevant, interesting and timely information. This is akin to writing a blog in which the goal is to actually offer something of value to the customer rather than to simply try to entice them to buy a one product or another. When subscribers get used to informative and interesting newsletters from an email list, they'll be much more likely to take any sales pitches that they receive from the marketer that much more seriously. The marketer's credibility, again, comes into play.

One's email list is one of the most important marketing tools available. This list should be maintained and kept free of erroneous addresses and any clients who unsubscribe should be immediately removed from the list and receive no other contact via email other than a confirmation letter. To do otherwise risks running afoul of the spam policies of the ISPs.

Remember that one can use one's newsletter as a way of building up to a new product. One could have interesting articles regarding a particular topic that directly relates to a new product that one is about to begin marketing. This is a good way to build interest without over-pitching anything to subscribers.

There is something to be said for keeping in contact with the list members, especially if one wants to make a sales pitch. Generally, it's very bad form to email nothing out to the list members and then to suddenly hit them with an advertisement. In most cases, such an advertisement will be simply ignored and many of the list members may simply opt-out of the list based on feeling like they’re being offered nothing from their membership aside from the occasional sales pitch. If, for some reason, it's impossible to send out regular emails to one's list for a period of time, be certain to send out a few non-sales oriented newsletters before approaching the list members with a new product pitch.

The Site and its Content

While blogs have been credited with changing the face of media and this is, to a large degree, entirely true, they have also changed the definition of a website. It is possible and even advisable to develop an entire affiliate site around a blog model.

There are numerous blogging technologies available which are easy to install and setup on a web server. They provide a very easy means of updating content and can automatically display any given number of past posts and information. Management of the content and making sure it is of high-quality is key. It's also important that one not misuse their digital real estate.

Articles and Content

The articles contained on the blog, as is the case with the newsletter, should not be solely directed toward offering sales pitches. There should be interesting content included. This means that one must either be able to write themselves or that they must contract the service out. There are free methods of getting content, some of which have already been described, but these must be used intelligently.

If one is writing their own content, be certain that it is related to the topic of the website. If one sells dating site memberships and treadmills, for instance, content related to one or the other should probably not be made to coexist on the same site. A good axiom is "Make a theme park, not a mall."

Remember, it’s a dog eat dog world out there and if someone is able to effectively track your niches down, tear apart your keywords and rankings, they will ultimately have everything they need to replicate what you are doing and if you’re not careful, they will DEFEAT you just by exploiting your own methods.

One of the biggest misconceptions in the world of online business is that you must be transparent with your entire business, or risk looking sketchy, questionable or outright shady.

The last thing you want anyone to think of you is that you’re somehow tied in with a scam, or that you’re not willing to share your information because you have something to hide.

Well, you do! You have your BUSINESS to hide.

Look, you should always be honest and ethical in your business. You want to build credibility and trust in your niche markets, because essentially, that’s the only way that you’ll be able to gain authority and maximize your income.

You can STILL be honest and upfront without having to reveal every niche and market you’re involved in.

Aliases protect you. They allow you to freely venture into as many different markets as you wish without fear that a competitor will instantly connect the dots, or be able to save hours of research and market evaluation that YOU’VE already done, simply because they can swipe your blueprint and zoom past you faster than you can blink.

Protect your business and protect your financial future.

Proxy Servers:

When you hear the word “proxy”, what immediately comes to mind?

Black hatters looking to game the search engines, hide activity, shield illegal shenanigans or someone – ANYONE – looking for anonymity, and all too often we instantly associate that to doing something “wrong”.

Well, clean the slate please, because that kind of thinking will keep you stuck, dead center, in a “sitting duck” position while a marksman picks you off with one straight shot.

If you’re serious about keeping your business protected, you need to learn exactly how to exploit the power of proxy servers to gain the overall advantage usually reserved for “black hatters”.

I promise, these methods are 100% ethical and legal, but they are undeniably REQUIRED if you’re serious about your online business.

Safeguard Your Keywords, Protect Your Traffic and Keep The Money To Yourself

One of the easiest ways that your competitor can take you out of the running and outright slaughter your search engine rankings is by dissecting and analyzing your content, your backlinks and your traffic sources online.

By tearing apart content such as articles submitted into databases and directories, you can easily determine what keywords any content is ranking for.

So, how can you stop this so that you can plug a leak in lost profits and instantly maximize your income by protecting your rankings?

Throw Out A Wider Net

You want to make sure that you use different anchor text for all of your primary keyword phrases. This means that rather than always using a small number of keywords, vary it up – spread it ou t – scatter it throughout the net.

Not only will this help to distract (and confuse) your competition, but you’ll be able to rank for more keyword phrases, and in the event one keyword takes a nosedive, you’ll have plenty of other keywords funneling in organic traffic to your site.

If you want to learn the underground strategies to dominating the search engines by swiping traffic from the top sites (and people who simply have NO idea that this is even possible, leaving their traffic sources WIDE OPEN)

One of the cool things about Easy Deal Builder is the number of options it gives you in terms of 'Deal Types':

You can run a quantity based deal (not really suitable for the Heist strategy as we won't have the ability to track sales and adjust the quantity countdown as they come in).

You can run a time/date based deal (this one is perfect for our 48 hour open offer that we used with Covert Social Press)

And last (but by no means least), you can run an 'Evergreen' deal - This starts a time/date countdown based on when the visitor first sees the offer page. It can be used effectively in AR sequence promotions or for promotions that you simply want to set up, leave running and forget.

In most instances we'll be using either the regular time/date deal or the evergreen deal for our pages and it's how we add our second level of scarcity.

When you combine the two - first level from the vendor's page and second level from our countdown you can see how powerful these pages become in terms of getting a visitor to take action and pick up the deal.

Typically we would send 3-4 emails to our lists about these offers:

Here's a breakdown of one of our typical email campaigns:

Email #1 - Start Building Up Interest. In this email we're only going to drop a hint about a "special offer" or a "limited deal" and when to expect it.

Weave into your message the primary benefit of the product you're about to promote but remember this is just a teaser, so you don't need to go into too much detail, name the product or devote any more time other than mentioning the big benefit.

We're also going to mention that there will only be a brief window of opportunity to take advantage of this upcoming deal and cover the primary scarcity element such as the special pricing, an added extra bonus or limited competition entry that comes with the offer.

Ideally this email should be sent out as a standalone message, but depending on your regular mailing style and schedule, it could also be done as the post script in another unrelated broadcast.

Email #2 - The Announcement Email. We don't want to wait too long before sending this message, perhaps 24 or 48 hours after your interest building email. This message should be short and to the point. The goal here is to achieve maximum click-throughs to the promotion page, so the briefer the better. We typically run with just 2 or 3 short paragraphs - The first paragraph announcing the page/offer has just gone live and then a link to the page.

The second should hit them with the main primary benefit of the product and the third a strong call to action designed to encourage the click through.

Email #3 - The Detail Email. Sent the next day, this email is to remind readers there is a great offer on right now and to highlight secondary or alternative benefits not previously mentioned. This can attract more readers who didn't click or purchase from our first email because maybe the primary benefit you chose just didn't work for them.

After the opening / reminder paragraph include the link.

Next... list the additional/new benefits in the form of 3 or 4 short/teaser style bullet points and again follow that with the link to the page.

Finally end the email with a reminder that this is their final chance to get the deal and close with a strong call to action that pushes the fear of loss button.

Email #4 - The Follow up/Thank You. It's always good to thank people who purchase from your offers and recommendations (and this type of email also serves to remind those that didn't buy what they missed by not taking action)

Depending on your results, this email can also include the possibility of a reopening... So if they missed out this time, you will try to bring the special deal back at some point soon just for them.

This follow up style of message can also work well if you promote something related to the offer you've just run. A complimentary product or service that the new buyers may find useful and or they can use with their new purchase.

You could also consider providing related content.

This serves two purposes: 1) it benefits your readers who purchased and helps them get more value from what they bought, and 2) it can also ignite more interest from the readers that didn't purchase, so that they are more attentive and interested if you decide to re-open.

An easy way to do this is to provide some links to relevant articles, a blog post or perhaps an info-graphic or Pinterest board etc.

Optional - Email #5 - The Final Call/Re-Opening. Depending on how well the promotion went you can decide if you want to re-open the offer.

Typically we do this if the original promotion achieved a decent level of conversion and interest. (We're looking to see around 4-5% or higher conversions over the original two days)

Note: This email should be sent no earlier than 2-3 days after the offer closes and no later than about 7-10 days after the original announcement email.

If the offer is to be re-opened then generally we only do it for a 24 hour period and typically only send out this one final message.

It may seem like over-kill, but if the original 48 hour promotion was successful it's a great way to round off the promotion and mop up any "fence sitters".

VERY IMPORTANT: Now I am sure you don't need me to tell you how

important it is to split test your emails / subject lines / body copy / bullets / calls to action etc. And also to ensure you are tracking open rates and clickthroughs and traffic to your pages.

So do make sure you take advantage of the stats your autoresponder service provides and that you add Google analytics or your own tracking script to your deal page. If you aren't tracking these elements you don't know what's working and what's not and you definitely don't want to be in that position.

Module 3: How to Make Your Blog More Interactive

“Interactivity” is another buzzword flying around today - and we can thank mobile phones for that. Watch any mobile user in action and you will see her hit buttons or swipe screens with the precision of a neurosurgeon. If she has to scroll down to find a button, ninety percent of the time she won’t: She is “outta there” - and on to the next website.

But what she is really looking for is not just the “best deal” on a local restaurant or a fun game to pass the time while under the hair dryer at the salon: She is looking for a reward.

(Kind of like those county fairs, where you shoot at a balloon or throw a ball in a hole, and get a toy rabbit: Only the modern day mobile user will often get hopping mad - no pun intended - if she misses that balloon!)

Interactivity is also a great way to boost your rock star blogger status and attract a more dedicated audience.

Interactivity makes it easy for readers to help themselves to your message.

And for mobile users, that can be a reward in itself.

Adding Rich Media

When people talk about adding rich media to blogs, they usually mean video - and that is certainly a great way to add interactivity. All you need is your YouTube channel - and remember, YouTube is now Google-owned and linked, so there’s an extra bonus for you there - and a plugin or blog theme optimized for video.

It’s a good idea to embed your videos right in your blog, as well as hosting them on YouTube.

And don’t neglect other popular video platforms. You can add a video as:

Entertainment

Instruction - for example, a “how to” video or a series of lessons

An alternative, visual method of learning

Perks of a membership site you host on your blog

A change from your regular, written content

Augmentation to a regular blog post

Part of a 100% video blog or “vlog"

But whatever reason you embrace for adding video to your blog, make sure you test it out first to see if that’s what your audience wants. One big clue: If your readers actually ask for videos - not necessarily on your blog but asking you or each other in your post comments or on social media if there’s a video link “anyone knows about”.

You can also visit YouTube and check to see if your topic is searched for. And although YouTube does have strong ties to Google - definitely something to think carefully about - adding video from other platforms should also be considered.

For example, if you are a film-maker or a musician, you may actually find that having an all-out, dedicated video blog is the best medium for getting your message out. In that case, your best bet would be to choose a WordPress theme dedicated to and optimized for video entries - such as Smashing Magazine’s (free) Smashing MultiMedia theme. (And on that page you’ll also find all the parameters and tips you’ll need to know for using a video blog.)

Smashing Magazine’s Smashing WordPress section (or sub-blog) provides you with a powerful search engine for WordPress themes - both free and paid - that have been vetted out by their knowledgeable staff. You can also simply embed or link to videos that behave like animated, looping .GIFs through Twitter’s answer to Instagram - Vine.co- which allows people to create and upload 6-second loops, much like the one made popular by Olympic athlete, Travis Gerrits in which he “eats" a miniature ski jumper for breakfast.

Instagram will give you longer videos at 15 seconds - as well as more editing capabilities. Both are meant for capturing something “as it happens". Use both of these video types sparingly and wisely, unless you are unabashedly curating that type of content - and always obey copyright laws, contacting the site or original poster for permission if there is any doubt. (The best strategy is to make your own mini Vine or Instagram videos!)

The major differences with this lesser-known video sharing platform:

High definition, high quality, longer videos allowed

Fiction and “art” movies allowed. Creativity is encouraged.

You can insert a Vimeo blog badge widget - instantly recognizable as a social network badge -- into your blog, along with your other social network badges

Makes effective use of categories

No advertising

Staff picks

The main similarities:

You can embed your video right into your blog

Searchable database

Vimeo is not linked to Google the way YouTube is - but depending on your goals, and your audience and video type, it may be the better choice for your blog.
