Chapter 4: What Type of Content Thrives on Reddit and Gets Shares?

With all that in mind, you might be wondering which types of posts do well on Reddit. What kind of content will get 100, 200, 1,000 upvotes and make it to the front page?

We've seen how you can improve your chances of success by finding the right sub, by doing your research and by building your reputation gradually over time. But ultimately what is really going to determine your success is how good the content you're posting is. How do you go about posting something that will get tons of likes and tons of shares?

Content That Thrives

The basic point to understand here is that content that thrives on Reddit is generally the same content that thrives on the web. And the way to create this type of content is something that's changing constantly as the web grows and develops but right now, the single most important factor is that this content is smart.

The internet you see, is getting smarter. It's been around a while now and as such we have become far more savvy as users. We've seen that generic, derivative content (Top 10 Ways to Get Abz!!!) a million times and we can smell 'promotional content' a mile off. Meanwhile, Google's algorithms have gotten smarter meaning that Google is better at spotting ads. To succeed online you need to be smarter and you need to write content that is intelligent, engaging and that has an 'X-Factor'.

This is particularly true for Reddit. For all we have said that Reddit can be mean-spirit, it is also a place that attracts a lot of very smart and a lot of very well-read users. You only have to read through the comments section of any Reddit post in order to quickly see that Redditors are generally very witty and very funny. They are self-referential, cynical, sarcastic, mean and hilarious. Dumb content here just isn't going to work.

So if you run a web design company and you're about to create a post with the headline:

'Scratch Old! Get Great WordPress Web Design and Get New Visitors'

Then you can stop right there. This is not going to succeed.

Earlier we discussed a posting about bodybuilders with beards. This is a much better idea. Why? Because it is completely unique. Because it has a very specific target audience. Because it is funny. And because it has a highly visual nature that will invite clicks.

Similarly successful would be any post that looks at a topic in an entirely new way. Want to post something to r/parkour (free running)? Then forget 'how to backflip' because it's been seen a thousand times before. Instead, how about 'The Psychology of Parkour - Why We Jump off Roofs' or how about 'Can Ambidexterity be Useful for Parkour'. These again are topics that offer a new angle, that sound interesting, that can stimulate discussion and that offer some real value. For someone who loves parkour, they've probably heard just about everything there is to hear about backflip technique and jumping. Ambidexterity is something completely new and interesting.

The single most important test you should give any new content you're thinking of creating and sharing to Reddit is this: would you read it? Would it catch your eye? Would you stop what you were doing and actually be excited to sit down to it with a cup of tea? If not, then you need to rethink your strategy.

The Psychology of Sharing and Upvoting

Another important point is that you should try to get inside the heads of people who share and upvote and why they do.

This is a very important question and it's probably not as straightforward as you think.

People upvote because they've read your content and enjoyed it right? And they share for the same reason?

Well actually, in many cases, the answer is 'not really' on both these fronts.

For starters, recognize that the vast majority of people will not upvote or share your posts even if they're amazing. If you have a post that has 80+ upvotes then you can consider that a big hit for Reddit. How many actual visits can you expect to get from that? About 4-6,000 (this is from experience). That's means only a very small fraction are upvoting. If you use Reddit, how often do you upvote?

When you upvote, you stand to gain nothing from doing so and no one will even know you've done it. That means you're only likely to do it if you really care about either the subreddit (i.e. you are a moderator or a regular visitor) or if you really care about the post (it really pulls on your heartstrings or angers you).

The best way to get upvotes then is to make posts that have some kind of emotional resonance with the views of that sub. That means you need to post things that people can really get behind or that people will think can greatly benefit the other visitors of the sub. So if there's a subject that you feel passionate about or that you're constantly ranting about, this may just be excellent fodder for Reddit. Annoyed at how people are always eating your sandwiches at work? Then post about it! Although you better make it different as this is a pretty done-to-death subject.

Now onto sharing. Why do people share? Again, very few people who read your content will share it and actually a lot of people will share it who haven't read it. This might seem odd but again experience shows this to be true. It's not uncommon to post an article to Facebook, to see it has 20 likes, but likewise to find the page has only had 3 hits. Those people liked the content without even reading it!

So why do they like it? Well they will have liked it based on the title and on any images alone. The same goes for sharing to Reddit a lot of the time and upvoting.

How to offer this service

The next key to properly succeeding and being able to deliver this service is to decide what kind of video you want to give them.

Outsourcing or making them yourself?

Almost everybody I know here specifically wants to only outsource it.

What is this site?

This site provides you with all the tutorials to create these videos all on your own. They offer you a free 7 day trial, which I would recommend you try doing, but I would also mainly recommend starting off on doing the outsourcing first, this way, you can focus more on delivering the service to your customers.

It can take around 2-3 hours to actually finish the tutorials, so it can be a bit tiring for those of you who have very important time. If you don't want to waste time, just start sending out emails right now.

I am still paying monthly for the site, so I know it is still very worth the investment. I know personally that it is very worth it, but do not invest in it just yet. You are not allowed to join again for another free trial, so I would suggest that you consider outsourcing this, and once you get that second or third client, invest in this.

What to say in the video?

There are multiple different videos I like to use. I can use different kinds of scripts to give a business an interesting take with the video. Scripts are usually supposed to be short. If the customer wants talking in the video, do not be afraid to make them pay another $50-$100 or so. You can then outsource it on Fiverr. There are some whiteboard service providers who will provide the speaking for an additional $20 or so. However, to save more money, consider hiring one of the many voice over artists on Fiverr for only $5 who can offer talking, and then have the artist add that voiceover to the video.

Here is one of the scripts I love to have written in the video:

(For a Chinese restaurant)Are you in the mood for some traditional Chinese food? Here at the (name of restaurant), you will be treated with delightful food, an amazing array of meals, and top notch customer service in (name of city). Drop by today and snag $9 off!:)

Sometimes, I like to have them pay me per video, but it has only happened twice. They can pay you twice as well because of the fact that you can make them offer a specific discount after several days or weeks.

Be creative with the script. It is not that difficult to make one. Just be sure to showcase the script to the client first before making the video, and then ask if they want to have words spoken rather than written.

What to do after a client replies?

Once a client replies, there are multiple ways to respond. Some of them may ask for samples, but this is when using Sparkol comes in handy.

This is what I do to properly make my way out of this if you decide not to use Sparkol at first.

I first like to ask some people on Fiverr if I could possibly use their's to show to a client of mine. I will tell the outsourcer that I am not going to say it is mine, but something ME AND MY PARTNER have done! This way, you aren't taking full credit while also not even lying to your customer.

Some of the questions the clients will reply with will all be simple and easy to reply to. My experience with this is that only those who are very interested will buy.

Pricing -30 seconds = $90 - 1 minute = $150 (Say this is a special offer) - 2 minutes = $297

You can charge more once you get more comfortable with selling and getting clients.

There are some outsourcers on Fiverr who are very different and will provide 2 minutes for just $5 while others will offer only 30 for $5!

We have now reached the end of this short and to the point WSO!

Here is what you are going to do right now! Follow this simple guideline, and you will be well on your way to getting your first $90-$397 client. You just may get it in the next 24 hours!

Chapter 4: How Magnets Help Pain

Synopsis

Pain is a social issue of enormous proportions. For instance, eighty percent of people have severe back pain onetime in their lives, forty million suffer from arthritic pain, and forty million have repeated headaches. Habitual pain alone costs the economic system nearly $100 billion yearly.

Painkilling drugs don't appear to be the answer. Their affectivity is limited, the body constructs tolerance, and side effects hospitalize over 76,000 individuals yearly.

As of the need, pain has been the most emphasized magnetic-therapy practical application. Numerous fields of study support its efficaciousness.

Pain Relief

A Trust in the healing power of magnets has been around since ancient Greece, extending to a $5 billion a year global industry that furnishes millions of worshipers with magnets for everything from arthritis to cancer to depression.

That's in spite of the fact that numerous scientific fields of study have been either inconclusive or not able to find evidence to support the claims of their healing energy. Till now.

Fresh research at the U of V demonstrates that there is at least a little truth to the oft-cited claim that magnets may step-up the flow of blood, therefore supplying more oxygen and nutrients to wounded tissue.

Research workers have demonstrated that a mild magnetic field may cause the littlest blood vessels in the body to enlarge or constrict, thus increasing the blood flow and conquering inflammation, a vital factor in the mending process.

Thus far, the findings are based on experimentations with rats, but the researchers hope to start human clinical trials in the near future, while that could prove to be a major challenge.

What sets this work aside from most research into the alleged curative effects of magnets is the fact that the research workers were able to measure their results by measuring the changes in the blood vessels to ascertain the affect on inflammation.

It's the beginning direct measurements that demonstrate the reduction in swelling. Their determinations don't lend credence to the wild claims of a lot of manufacturers of magnetic panaceas. Rather, their work was really precisely centered on the claim that magnets may increase the flow of blood.

The investigators utilized anesthetized rats for their work. The rats' paws were handled with inflammatory agents to imitate tissue damage, and a little magnet, approximately ten times more powerful than a common refrigerator magnet, was bound to their paws.

The swelling was cut back by approximately fifty percent, apparently because the magnetic field altered the diameter of the blood vessels. The magnet only had to stay in place for fifteen to thirty minutes. If the investigators waited till after the paw was amply inflamed, the magnet caused no effect.

If magnets work that well in mortal trials, the affect may be dramatic, as in a lot of cases reducing inflammation is crucial to a rapid recovery.

Let's suppose it takes you 4 or 5 days to recuperate from a given trauma and get back to work, or back on the playing field. If by forestalling the swelling you recuperate after 2 days, you've cut the curative time by a factor of 2. That's enormous savings worldwide in worker productivity and the caliber of life.

Naturally, like results may also be accomplished by implementing an ice pack and compression, but that's not all of the time convenient.

A magnet, of simply the correct power, may be carried with more ease and is always be available within moments of an injury. However at this point no one knows precisely the correct dosage, or in this case the essential magnetic force, to match up with which trauma.

One size will not work for everyone. It would require a much more potent magnet, for instance, to deal with a thigh muscle than a sprain in the little finger. And, frequently no one recognizes yet if it will work at all in human beings.

However researchers are optimistic based on a lot of years of experience in a comparatively narrow field. The really small blood vessels are in all the tissues in your body and that's where the action is. That's where oxygen gets handed over, and it's where waste material gets transferred from your tissues.

These little arterials may open and close as they've a layer of smooth muscle wound around them. They may expand their diameter, therefore handing over more flow to a given tissue, and they may decrease the diameter, simply like opening and closing a garden hose alters the flow of water.

If a magnetic field was held to the paws of the lab rats, the vessels that had been constricted, and the compressed vessels dilated, indicating that the magnetic field "brought on vessel relaxation in tissues with encumbered blood supply, finally increasing blood flow.

The mechanics isn't amply understood, but it seems that the magnetic field changes the flow of positively excited calcium ions that interact with the muscles around the little blood vessels, causing them to expand or compress.

Magnets are attractive to numerous people, and their utilization has been widespread for many centuries. Early trusters believed magnets may pull diseases and pain from the body, a belief that endures to this day.

Magnets have demonstrated to be a valuable tool in medicine for an extended assortment of uses. A number of researchers are formulating methods to utilize small magnets to draw chemotherapy-carrying magnetic

molecules into tumors and hold them there, therefore killing cancerous cells while saving nearby healthy cells.

And magnets are at the heart of one of innovative medicine's most useful processes, magnetic resonance imaging. This device presents physicians precise images of the total human body in astonishing detail.

Perhaps the most common woe among internet marketers is "not enough traffic". Many of us consider "traffic" to be the 'missing link’ to our success: if we had enough traffic, everything else would somehow work itself out.

It even overshadows our keyword research objectives: if we could only find that 'golden' keyword - the one with huge search volume and little competition - or at least somehow hit that Top Spot for one of those high-volume keywords, we'd have so much traffic coming to our site, everything else would somehow work itself out.

We're as guilty as anyone in pandering to this idea - prior versions of this course focused on "traffic".

So, what's the problem?

The problem is that "traffic" isn't the answer to anything, and a flood of it won't make your website or business successful.

On the other hand, "buyers" can, and will.

By "buyers" I don't necessarily mean "people who buy things". I mean "visitors who are qualified conversion candidates". Said another way, "buyers" are: "visitors who are interested in the topic of your site, and can be motivated to buy from you, provide their email address, or click an ad".

"Ok, I get it.." you reply. "But aren’t we 'splitting hairs' here? I mean, of course we want people who are going to BUY something, or whatever else you said... but it's still 'traffic', or at least 'qualified traffic', right? There, that’s it - "qualified traffic" is what we want!"

Yes, "qualified traffic" is another way to say it. But what we find is that the pursuit of "qualified traffic" often ends up simply being the pursuit of "traffic" with a little bit of "qualified" thrown in.

Having said all that, we’re going to work on "traffic generation", not "buyer generation". But keeping that goal of "qualified buyer traffic" in mind will help us realize that traffic just for the sake of traffic is wasted effort.

Another consideration is that many of the 'non-paid' methods for going after 'buyers' exclusively requires a great deal of effort and isn't scalable.

Back at Headquarters (that would be Analogy Marketing World Headquarters, otherwise known as... 'the office'), we've been working more and more with paid traffic. Free traffic is nice, but it will not scale beyond a certain point, and typically has a required "time-to-volume" ratio.

When we have more money than time, buying traffic becomes the ONLY way to go.

If we had to distill “$100k Affiliate" into 2 'parts' or objectives, it would be (V building a strong, quality affiliate marketing site, and (2) getting qualified visitors to the site.

Traffic, Promotion, and the Social Web

Today, we simply must take the Social Web into account if we intend on building a longterm, sustainable internet marketing business.

And it is in traffic & promotion where it has the greatest impact.

People are 'social animals', always have been. But it's only recently that the Internet has evolved to the point that it's begun to reflect this. That evolution continues, and at a h eightening pace. In fact, I'll make a prediction:

From both a user perspective, and a markets perspective, a "Social Web" will be a much more accurate description than anything else within the next 3-5 years.

What's more, within that same period, from a marketers perspective, virtually EVERYTHING will have changed: how we market, what we market, how we build sites, what we build, and how users behave.

Finally, this: every tactic & strategy that works today will at the least have to evolve significantly over the next few years, or they will not work.

In other words, if you don't 'stay current', you will have nothing, and nothing to fall back on.

Ranking Your Site

Our traffic will come primarily through two avenues: search engine ranking, and referral traffic.

Search engine ranking is a function of two considerations: the quality and relevance of our website content, and external links from other sites pointing to ours.

The sections on content and organizing your website will have covered the first function; what follows are the mechanics of getting those external links pointing to our site.

The Backlinking Solution

This isn't going to be the longest section of the book, even though it might have the most impact on the profitability of your site. I don't want to overwhelm you and explain every method of free traffic in the world or explain to you how SEO works. I want to clue you in to the stuff that's working right now for getting niche sized websites running and ranked, give you a simple plan for backlinking without breaking your back, and put you to work.

100K Copywriting Resale Rights Ebook

Ebook Sample Content Preview:

Now that you have an understanding of some of the important terminology involved in copywriting and how you can make the most of those elements, here are some more tips to help you craft great copy.

Speak to Your Audience

Since the sales copy you write is to promote your own products, it’s easy to make the mistake of talking about yourself in your copy too much. The problem is, your potential customer doesn’t really care about you. They care about themselves, they want solutions to their problems and they want to know what you can do for them. You need to focus on your customer first.

A lot of sales copy is too focused on the business who is doing the selling:

“We sell this...”

“We’re great at this...”

“We believe in customer satisfaction..."

It’s simple enough to change wording around to focus more on “you” and how you can help your potential customer. Turn it around and write things like this instead:

“Are you looking for...”

“If you need reliable...”

“Your satisfaction is guaranteed..."

Exercise: Go through your copy and change many of the "we’s” to “yous” and rewrite your copy based on the change in focus. When you’re done, you’ll see how much more of a connection you can make with your reader. In most cases you’ll be saying essentially the same thing (ex. Saying, “We believe in customer satisfaction” is pretty much the same as, “Your satisfaction is guaranteed”), but the focus is on your potential customer.

Avoid Excessive Adjectives

Can you see what’s wrong with the following copywriting example?

“The biggest and best e-book that will make you the happiest person on your block.”

Here’s the problem: Outside of the fact that it’ pretty over-the-top with its claims, that sentence above is pretty meaningless. Nobody really cares if an ebook is the biggest and this sentence really doesn’t say anything about why it's the best. Also, the word happiest is kind of meaningless. We all want to be happy, but if we are unhappy right now we have specific problems we need to have solved. Telling someone they’re going to be happy doesn’t answer much for them. They want to know HOW you’re going to make them happy and how you’ll make their specific problems go away.

The real problem with the sentence above is that it’s filled with adjectives that don't give specifics. Adjectives describe nouns and they don’t provide readers with good information.

Make sure you answer these questions in your copy:

How are you the best

What makes you great

How do you care for your customer

That’s what people want to know. If you use too many adjectives, it ends up sounding like too much hype and the meaningfulness is lost.

That doesn’t mean you can’t use adjectives in your copy. Of course, you’re still going to use them, but your copy should be able to stand on it’s own without all the extra words.

Exercise: If you want to see if your copy can stand up on its own, pick a couple paragraphs from your website or your entire page and remove all the adjectives. Does it still sound compelling? Is it selling your product?

If not, it’s probably time to start working on being specific and we’ll talk about that next.

Be Specific

I talked about this briefly when we wrote about headlines. Let’s get into this more and really understand how being specific can help you sell more of your product.

Instead of saying you ARE the best, say WHY you are the best. Instead of saying you’re fast; explain how fast and in what specific ways. Let’s say, if you are a printing service and you provide fast printing, tell them on average how much time you need to finish a project. If you aren’t willing to say how quickly you can complete a project, then you’re probably not that quick and shouldn’t be using that angle.

When we’re talking about copy, we’re giving people as much detailed information as possible so people can make an informed decision about a product, newsletter, or whatever our call to action is.

Have you ever been to a website and thought about buying a product, but you weren’t 100% sure it had the features/benefits you needed? It happens all the time. A lot of product-sellers think they can slap up a picture and add a few words and watch the sales roll in. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.

You simply can’t give too much information about your product. Yes, you can be too wordy and put your reader to sleep, but if you’re giving people information that they need to make a buying decision, there is no such thing as too much information. You want them to have all their questions answered and get them to buy.

Another good way to be specific is to quantify things. If you have an ebook, that has 37 ways to reduce your cholesterol, tell them there are 37 ways. Don’t say there are "plenty of ways” or “this ebook is packed with ideas to help you lower your cholesterol”. A specific number like 37 as opposed to a round number like 30 also tends to generate a better response. It’s not completely clear why this occurs, but it’s likely because round numbers might seem made up or estimated, but when you say 37 it puts a specific picture in their mind.

Exercise: Look at things you’ve written for your business. Where can you be more specific? What can you quantify?

Don’t Worry So Much about Grammar

As you continue with your business, there will be people that tell you that proper grammar is very important to maintain a professional image. Some of your websites visitors may even take the time to email and tell you about the spelling and grammar mistakes that completely outraged them. Don’t let this worry you too much. Correct the spelling and if the grammar is outrageous, fix it - but keep reading to find out why grammar isn’t as important as it’s cracked up to be.

The most important thing about your sales copy or articles is to sound natural and to relate to your target audience appropriately. Write the way you speak.

Naturally, if your audience is PHD students studying literature, then you might have to have a more formal tone and pay more attention to more grammar rules. If you’re audience is race-car enthusiasts or those interested in fashion trends, you might be more relaxed in your writing and speak more casually.

Principle #197 - Take Notes

You’re not in school anymore, but taking notes still has a lot of value. If your spouse tells you to get a number of things done, then you may want to write them down. And if you have ideas about how you can improve your personal or financial life, write them down too. Don’t simply let these notes and insights slip away.

Principle #198 - Readjust Your Expectations to Make Them Reasonable

Many of us go through life with unreasonably high expectations of what we can and should achieve. Over time, we readjust our expectations, but only after spending years chasing something that ultimately ends up being a waste of time. Instead of doing this, do as the successful do and shoot high, but keep reasonable expectations.

Principle #199 - Stop Blaming Others for Your Problem

While others may make your problems worse, only you can solve them. So stop blaming other people for your problems and take responsibility for your life and decisions.
