Section 3: 9 Email Marketing Hacks That Will Skyrocket Your Profits Beyond What You Thought Possible

In Section 2 you learned the exact blueprint that will allow you to easily create highly effective email campaigns in any niche.

I want to top this off with some of the best email marketing hacks out there. Ideas that will allow your emails to stand out from the crowd and attract the kind of response you are looking for.

Without further ado, here they are.

Hack #1: Get Your Email Subject Lines Out of the Dreaded "Valley of Death"

In a study, email marketing company Adestra tracked results from 900 million emails.

They came to the somewhat surprising conclusion that emails with subject line lengths of 60 to 70 characters showed no increase in open rates or clickthroughs compared to other subject line lengths.

This zone is the "valley of death" of email subject lines.

Further, they saw that subject lines of lengths 49 characters and below were very good at inducing people to open emails.

While lengths of 70 characters and up proved very effective at increasing engagement and clickthroughs.

If you remember, President Barack Obama's email fundraising campaigns for the 2012 elections saw some very short subject lines like "Wow" and "Hey". These emails saw tremendous open rates and were among the more successful campaign subject lines.

Adestra's study suggests that if you want to raise awareness of yourself or your brand, use short subject lines. Below 49 characters.

In fact, the company found that subject lines with lengths below 10 characters had open rates of 58%!

On the other hand, if you want to increase engagement with the email content and boost clickthrough rates, use longer subject lines. 70 characters and up.

Whatever you do, it's a great idea to avoid the "death valley" zone of 60 to 70 characters. Both open rates and clickthrough rates suffer in that zone.

Remember, this data is from a study of 900 million emails. That sort of sample size has got to have some real statistical validity. This is not your typical "marketing guru" spouting something he dreamed up the previous night.

Hack #2: Personalize Your Emails

Don't you love it when you receive an email from a "corporate"? Something that screams "Hey you, you are just one of 10 million I am sending this message to!"

Of course, many large corporations do use the art of personalization wonderfully well. And their emails actually read as if it was written just for you.

Some email marketers in the IM (Internet marketing) world do this very well too.

So what's the secret?

It's pretty simple, really.

You see, when writing an email that is to be broadcast to a list, we tend to picture a group of people in our minds that we are writing to. Often, a big group.

This affects the "voice" we use.

Think about it. What tone of voice, choice of words, loudness do we use when having a one-on-one conversation with a close friend? Now compare that with the tone of voice, words and voice volume we would use if we were speaking to a group of people.

Very different, aren't they?

This is true even if we wanted to convey the exact same message in both situations.

Speaking to a group of any sort just changes our voice.

This works with written words too, not just spoken words. That's what adversely affects our email messages.

The workaround is easy. Picture in your mind one single subscriber on your list. An ideal subscriber. Someone who you like and want on your list.

And write to that one single person.

Do NOT write to a group.

This one hack will make your emails smell and feel personal.

Try it out today.

Hack #3: Less Is More Profitable

Keep sentences short.

Replace commas with full stops. Start a new sentence where you would normally use a comma.

Do the same with "and" and "or" wherever possible.

Why?

Short sentences are punchier. They retain attention better. Especially when reading email. Because folks often read email while in multi-tasking mode.

Having said that, sprinkle in a few longer sentences as well. Just take care to avoid rambling on needlessly.

These longer sentences help build variety. And keep prospects engaged.

In the same vein, keep paragraphs short too. At just 2 or 3 sentences per paragraph. Max 4 lines.

This improves readability like crazy. Try reading a big block of text on-screen. Daunting, isn't it?

Vary paragraph sizes to keep the reader's attention.

Why this emphasis of short structures?

It's because of something we have known since the 1990s.

People do not read pages online. They SKIM through them instead.

And for skimmers, short sentences and paragraphs are a big plus. It helps them get the message easier and quicker. That's why this hack works so well.

Hack #4: Of Mobile Phones and Email Subject Lines

You already know that emails that are not optimized for mobile look funky on mobile devices. Which of course, costs you sales and profits.

But there's something else happening too.

Mail readers on mobiles chop off email subject lines! So your well thought out, hard hitting email subject line falls flat on its face for the mobile subscriber.

Only the first 4 or 5 words of the subject line are readable.

What shows up below that truncated subject line are the first 2-3 lines of text. These lines usually show up even before the mail is opened.

The trick is to avoid lame openings like "Hi, this is Jeremy here and I wanted to connect with you today."

Use benefit-driven openings instead.

Something like: "Hi, Want to increase your email marketing profits by 30% or more? Then this new process for increasing engagement and clickthroughs may be just what you need..."

That works better to compel your mobile device using subscribers to open your email.
Hack #5: Exploit the Brain's Infatuation with the Unexpected

Your brain loves stuff it can't foresee. The unexpected grabs its attention. This is probably something that evolved as part of our survival mechanism.

Therefore, subject lines like "The surprising story of....", or "9 surprising facts you didn't know about." tend to work well.

According to researchers, we love unexpected pleasure a lot more than one that can be foreseen. (By the same token, we fear the unknown more than any known dangers.)

You should try surprises in your email. And not just in the subject line either. They are just. well, surprisingly powerful!

Exercise I.Begin by taking some familiar object and placing it before you, try to get as many impressions regarding it as is possible for you. Study its shape, its color, its size, and the thousand and one little peculiarities about it that present themselves to your attention. In doing this, reduce the thing to its simplest parts--analyze it as far as is possible--dissect it, mentally, and study its parts in detail. The more simple and small the part to be considered, the more clearly will the impression be received, and the more vividly will it be recalled.

Reduce the thing to the smallest possible proportions, and then examine each portion, and mastering that, then pass on to the next part, and so on, until you have covered the entire field. Then, when you have exhausted the object, take a pencil and paper and put down as nearly as possible all the things or details of the object examined. When you have done this, compare the written description with the object itself, and see how many things you have failed to note.

The next day take up the same object, and after re-examining it, write down the details and you will find that you will have stored away a greater number of impressions regarding it, and, moreover, you will have discovered many new details during your second examination. This exercise strengthens the memory as well as the Attention, for the two are closely connected, the memory depending largely upon the clearness and strength of the impressions received, while the impressions depend upon the amount of attention given to the thing observed. Do not tire yourself with this exercise, for a tired Attention is a poor Attention. Better try it by degrees, increasing the task a little each time you try it. Make a game of it if you like, and you will find it quite interesting to notice the steady but gradual improvement.

It will be interesting to practice this in connection with some friend, varying the exercise by both examining the object, and writing down their impressions, separately, and then comparing results. This adds interest to the task, and you will be surprised to see how rapidly both of you increase in your powers of observation, which powers, of course, result from Attention.

Exercise II._ This exercise is but a variation of the first one. It consists in entering a room, and taking a hasty glance around, and then walking out, and afterward writing down the number of things that you have observed, with a description of each. You will be surprised to observe how many things you have missed at first sight, and how you will improve in observation by a little practice. This exercise, also, may be improved by the assistance of a friend, as related in our last exercise.

It is astonishing how many details one may observe and remember, after a little practice. It is related of Houdin, the French conjurer, that he improved and developed his faculty of Attention and Memory by playing this game with a young relative. They would pass by a shop window, taking a hasty, attentive glance at its contents. Then they would go around the corner and compare notes. At first they could remember only a few prominent articles--that is, their Attention could grasp only a few.

But as they developed by practice, they found that they could observe and remember a vast number of things and objects in the window. And, at last, it is related that Houdin could pass rapidly before any large shop window, bestowing upon it but one hasty glance, and then tell the names of, and closely describe, nearly every object in plain sight in the window. The feat was accomplished by the fact that the cultivated Attention enabled Houdin to fasten upon his mind a vivid mental image of the window and its contents, and then he was able to describe the articles one by one from the picture in his mind.

Houdin taught his son to develop Attention by a simple exercise which may be interesting and of value to you. He would lay down a domino before the boy--a five-four, for example. He would require the boy to tell him the combined number at once, without allowing him to stop to count the spots, one by one. "Nine" the boy would answer after a moment's hesitation.

Then another domino, a three-four, would be added. "That makes sixteen," cried the boy. Two dominoes at a time was the second day's task. The next day, three was the standard. The next day, four, and so on, until the boy was able to handle twelve dominoes--that is to say, give instantaneously the total number of spots on twelve dominoes, after a single glance. This was Attention, in earnest, and shows what practice will do to develop a faculty. The result was shown by the wonderful powers of observation, memory and attention, together with instantaneous mental action, that the boy developed. Not only was he able to add dominoes instantaneously, but he had powers of observation, etc., that seemed little short of miraculous. And yet it is related that he had poor attention, and deficient memory to begin with.

If this seems incredible, let us remember how old whist players note and remember every card in the pack, and can tell whether they have been played or not, and all the circumstances attending upon them. The same is true of chess players, who observe every move and can relate the whole game in detail long after it has been played. And remember, also, how one woman may pass another woman on the street, and without seeming to give her more than a careless glance, may be able to relate in detail every feature of the other woman's apparel, including its color, texture, style of fashioning, probable price of the material, etc., etc.

Chapter 9: Maintaining Your Social Media Profiles

After you have your social media profiles up and running, many people forget to pay attention to their profiles. It is easy to do as you are focused on posting, tweeting, and uploading videos. However, in order to maintain a positive image on social media networks a bit of maintenance is required. You need to make sure that you keep your social media profiles up to date at all times.

The social media profile is extremely important, so here are some things that you can do to make sure that you are getting the most out of your profile.

Adhere to Image Size Requirements

If your customer comes to your Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, or other social media page and sees a profile picture that is too large, too small, or out of focus, they are going to get a quick first impression that is not good. Most people will immediately think that if they cannot get their profile picture right, what else are they going to mess up? Make sure that you check the size requirements for each page and keep your photos at that size so they look their best and you make a good first impression.

Social Share Buttons

There is no real way to know the preference of our consumers for sharing content. For this reason, you want to make it as easy as possible for your consumers to share your content on whatever platform that they prefer. Use the buttons for the different social media sites so that if your customer likes Facebook they can share it there, if they want to pin an image to Pinterest, they can do so easily. Remember, you want them to share your information and in order for them to do this, you will need to make it as easy on them as possible.

Descriptions for Upcoming Events

When a person hears about your event on a social network it is important for them to know how to buy tickets or register. When you are creating descriptions for your event make sure that it is clear where the official registration for the event will occur.

Many users may click on the I’m going tab and not have any idea that they actually need to register for the event. Include easy to follow links when you are promoting your company events online.

Keywords

Despite what you may have heard, SEO is not dead and keywords are not a thing of the past. Social profiles are included in search engine results, which mean that your profile should include keyword rich text. The more that a keyword is used in your profile; the more likely you are going to be associated with that keyword on the social media platform. Make sure to use a keyword tool such as Google’s in order to make sure that your business is associated with the appropriate industry keywords.

Encourage Reviews

Remember, social media is all about engaging your consumers. You will want to make sure that you are encouraging your customers to leave reviews about their experiences with your business. They may leave reviews directly on your Facebook page or on other review sites such as Yelp or Urbanspoon.

Feature Hashtags

Hashtags, phrases or words that are prefixed with the # symbol provide a way to group messages on social media sites. This is a great way to make your content or event stand out. Your hashtag can be anything from the name of your event to a special promotion to something simple. Make sure that your hashtag is descriptive so that it will keep your followers interested.

Be Real

As your social network communities begin to grow it is easy for your customers to begin to feel as though they have been lost in the crowd. One way to avoid having your consumer’s feel this way is to use their names when you are responding to their comments or questions.

Meta Descriptions and Title Tags

The title tag and Meta description of your blog or business needs to include your business name. If you do not include your name, a person that is searching for you may have difficulty finding you. For example, Whole Foods has a blog called Whole Story. This is a catchy title for their blog, but a person that is searching for it may have difficulty finding it as they do not know to search for that name.

To avoid these problems make sure that your company name is a part of the meta description and title tag for your blog so people that are searching for your business can find it easily.

Optimize Your Presence on Social Media

Just as you optimize your website for your business, you also need to optimize each of your social media sites. Businesses may add new social profiles at different times, which make it easy to create different profiles that are not cohesive.

It is important to make sure that your social media presence is optimized. If you are just starting out, focus on one social media outlet at a time. Facebook is typically one of the easier social media sites to set up. When you are ready to move on to one of the others, make sure that the information that you are providing is similar in style and format on all of the other platforms that you create.

Your bios and profiles should be kept up to date at all times. Make sure that you complete each of the profiles and clean them up as necessary. A clear and concise description of your business, your logo, and the URL of your website should always be included.

Put a regular housekeeping check on your calendar. Once a month or so make sure that you check all of your social media profiles to keep the logos, images, and information up to date.

Chapter 8: Yin And Yang Healing Sessions

Synopsis

Besides understanding the chosen style of therapy to treat a particular condition, it is also prudent to find out a little about how these therapy sessions are conducted.

What To Expect

Finding out things like, who conducts the sessions, where the sessions are conducted, why they are conducted at the particular location. Also knowing what transpires before, during and after the session is a good idea. This is to ensure the individual comes completely prepared and there are no unpleasant surprises.

As there are many art forms of therapy that adopt the basic tenants of the yin and yang concept, the styles of each chosen art may differ. The many art forms of therapy include yoga, traditional medicines, mantras, qigong, reiki, massages, to name a few.

Most sessions usually begin with some primary movements to make the individual comfortable and relaxed. These may or may not include having music played softly in the background.

Once the body is relaxed, the individual will feel the slow release of tension and this will help to further clear whatever other negative energetic blocks at a cellular level.

Some sessions may include deep breathing exercises to settle the otherwise busy mind. It is also not unusual to have some sessions using mantras as the vital energy centers in the body - chakras, are associated with specific sounds which "wake" the body and stimulate these centers.

When using the reiki style to transfer or regulate the chi in the body, sometimes heat pad are used for the warmth.

Other examples are the fundamentals of the Taoist approach. Here the yin and yang is taught as a system of recognizing how to separate out patterns in our daily life, and its connection to the surroundings, while all the time learning to accept and work with the energies to create the desired balance.

Chapter 9: Getting Information

Synopsis

In today's world of vast information and the easy accessibility of it, finding out about yin and yang and the various forms it takes in the many different lifestyle approaches is very easy.

Gathering Data

The greatest and fastest way to get any information is from the internet. By just keying in the desired topic or concern, and the answer is yours instantly. Similarly it should be noted here that all information found on the internet is not necessarily accurate or substantiated.

Popularly practiced in Taoism and Daoism, the yin and yang tenants can also be found in most other therapy styles that date back to ancient times. The basis of manipulating the existing energy to produce the balance needed for optimum health and mind conditions is found in almost all.

If one is about to embark on trying to treat one's self with the yin and yang concept as the basic focal point, then some simple ideas can be followed.

If the treatment style chosen includes the use of herbs, the basic principal for guidance purposes would be, any hot disease should be treated with cold herbs, and any cold diseases should be treated with hot herbs.

A simple formula to follow but bearing in mind other corresponding factors should also be studied. Some people actually relate to it this way - a yin disease = a yang cure and a yang disease = a yin cure.

Besides all this, reading testimonial is another good way of assessing the choice made. Most people who have found or experienced good things are more than happy to share it. Likewise the opposite also true and applies, so making a discerning choice is not difficult.

There are a lot of centers and societies dedicated to healing and the enhancement of health. Some are non profit while others are not. The choice lies in the individual freedom.

Chapter 10: The Drawbacks To Not Understanding Yin And Yang

Synopsis

In the ever changing and fast pace of today human existence, people are always looking for the next new exciting thing to try. From medications, to exercises, to therapy sessions. The world is your oyster, so the saying goes.

The negative side of this vast array of choice is that, people tend to jump onto the next thing without giving enough time, energy and concentration to what has already been started on. Sometimes it's because of lack of any physical progress, sometimes its due to outside pressure and sometimes there is just not enough mental commitment.

Attempting the yin and yang style therapy is no less different. The commitment needed to see any percentage of results must be taken into consideration. Reading up as such information as possible also help to edify the choice made and is a positive contributing factor to the successful of the yin and yang choice made.

Making a concerted attempt to thoroughly understand what it involves and how the yin and yang concept works is also mentally helpful in preparing the mind to accept and work with the choice made.

A lot of benefits can be derived from practicing any therapy that uses the yin and yang tenants as its basic beginning and ending results. While all this is being researched, one must also understand that the results and impacts from making a particular choice is vast and varied and depends on a lot of inter related aspects which vary from person to person.

Another aspect to be wary about when making the choice, is whether or not, the chosen style has an occult elements or not. As with most alternative therapy styles the actual nature of the therapy may be genuine but the practitioner may not be, thus the occult connotations. Questions should be asked and satisfactory answers should be forth coming before making the choice to embark on this venture of holistic healing.

Chapter 5 - Seniors and Weight Lifting: Is It Safe?

No matter your age, the health benefits of strength training always abound.

As we age, one of the biggest perks about lifting weight is offsetting the natural muscle loss that occurs with time. Medically known as sarcopenia (muscle loss as a result of aging), this condition worsens when our muscles are left inactive. In fact, starting in our 30's, we can lose 3-5% of muscle mass every ten years if we are and continue to remain physically inactive.

While muscle loss is inevitable whether we are active or not, there is certainly a benefit to reducing the amount you will experience.

As we lose muscle, we lose strength and our ability to move freely and easily.

This muscle loss also reduces our stamina. The less stamina we have, the less likely we are to get up and move.

Enter a slippery slope of muscle loss leading to more muscle loss. Chances of being admitted and readmitted to a hospital for health-related conditions increases greatly as we become more and more inactive.

According to an article published on the (1) National Institutes of Health (NIH) website titled "Protecting muscle mass and function in older adults during bed rest," clear evidence exists showing a relationship between resistance exercise and combating muscle loss and loss of functional capacity.
It is clear that strength training makes sense, no matter your age, to help delay or reduce the natural muscle loss that occurs as part of the aging process, and to fight osteoporosis.

In a study done by (2) Exercise Physiologist Mark Peterson, published in the Medicine & Science In Sports & Exercise, he found that more than 1,300 adults fifty and older could increase muscle mass by an average 2.5 pounds in only five months.

Look at Jack LaLanne, "The Godfather of Fitness"- a perfect example of why strength training can and should be done throughout all ages and stages of life.

For over seventy-five years Jack lived with his top priority in life being his workout each day. He was a big proponent of encouraging the elderly and disabled to work out for health. Jack was a true testament to his preaching, and lived a healthy, vibrant and active ninety-seven years of life.

Once you're cleared by your doctor and given permission to start strength training, get to it!

There are ways you can safely add strength training to your daily routine. Whether with weights or with resistance bands, strength training is key.

Starting slowly is very important. Using your own body weight to supply resistance is a good place to start. As you become comfortable and confident with exercises and proper form, start using light dumbbells to add more resistance. Jumps of five pounds at a time are a safe bet as you become stronger.

Chapter 6- Sample Weight Workout Plan for 65+

Staying active is key to healthy aging.

Science has continually proven that strength training for seniors is beneficial in helping counteract the natural process of muscle loss with age.

If you're looking for a weight lifting plan, here is a great work out you can try.

Note that sets refer to groups of reps. Reps are repetitions, the number of times you repeat a particular exercise consecutively.

Aim to do the following total-body workout three times per week, with a day of rest in between each workout.

Total-Body Workout

(Aim for 10 reps of each, 2-3 sets total per exercise)

Overhead Press (Shoulders)

Sit ups or Crunches (Abs/Lower Back)

Upright Rows (Shoulders/Back)

Side Raises (Shoulders/Back)

Lunges(Legs)

Squats (Legs)

Curls (Biceps)

Tricep Extension (Triceps)

Wall Pushups (Chest)

Toe Raises (Calves)

*For demonstrations of these exercises simply search on youtube and you will have step by step tutorials and lots of variations to keep things fresh

Be sure to seek medical clearance before engaging in a strength training routine. Drink plenty of water before, during and after your workout. Always warm up before working out and cool down upon completion.

Chapter 7 - Over 65? Listen Up! Exercise Can Improve Your Sex Life

As we age, we may feel like we are destined to enjoy less and less of life's pleasures.

But did you know that exercise can actually improve your sex life? As if feeling more energized, being healthier and looking better wasn't a big enough set of perks of exercising, being active can also improve your sex life!

Let's take a look at how working out in the gym can improve your work outs in the bedroom.

While the type of working out you do varies person to person, what matters most is that you stay active, regardless of the means by which you do.

Cardiovascular exercise is great for your heart. It increases the rate at which blood pumps and flows throughout your body and improves circulation.

Lifting weights increases our growth hormone which in turn increases testosterone. The higher the testosterone, the higher the libido. Taking a yoga class can increase your flexibility which, needless to say, helps in the bedroom.

As we age, it's normal to experience sexual frustrations as a result of a lack of libido or issues such as erectile dysfunction.

Sexual frustrations can eventually lead to relationship issues, but exercise is a great way to help stop this slippery slope. The

boost in strength and endurance you will notice as a result of working out will translate into more endurance between the sheets.

Step 4: Setting Up Your Thank You Page

I’ll keep this short and sweet.

When you get a user to subscribe through your squeeze page, it will automatically direct them to a thank you page.

On this page, you will include a short message explaining that their download will come via email.

On the ‘thank you’ page, you will include your "One Time Offer”, or OTO. This will be your first paid offer that you give to your subscribers (obtained through MRR/PRR or your own product creation).

All you will need to do is supply some basic information on the product which will send them to your OTO’s sales page, which will include all information on the OTO and how to buy it.

This is an easy step that can be done using the same squeeze page you used with your freebie offer. Change some wording around and remove the opt-in button.

Confusing? I know. Continue to do the steps as you understand, it will come!

Step 5: Receiving the Product

As instructed earlier, with your AWeber follow up messages, your first email will be your download link.

I actually attached the exact image of one of mine. I suggest you write something yourself to make it more personalized.

This must contain the link to your product; otherwise your subscriber will never receive it!

The second part to this step is creating a download page. This can be just like your squeeze page as well, except just include a short message and download for your freebie.

On this page, you should also include an affiliate offer. This could be as simple as a text message with your affiliate link, or an affiliate image with your link. This affiliate offer SHOULD relate entirely to your niche.

Step 6: Begin Selling Your Products

This may as well be pushed to step 9. Earlier in this guide I gave you examples of follow up messages. Within these should be a couple of your PLR, MRR, or own products you are selling. This is how you make money, as well as including products in broadcast emails.

These and broadcast emails are how you will be selling your products.

WOW...

We’re already past step 6! How quick are these steps? Pretty quick!

I know I am breezing through these, but that is how easy these are. A lot of it is selfexplanatory; however, if you do need help, like mentioned before, please do contact me via email.

Step 7: Turning Subscribers into Buyers

This step is crucial to selling more products. Treating buyers and subscribers differently is essential to your success.

However, AWeber makes this nice and simple for you.

Step One: Log in to AWeber, and under "My Lists”, select "Automation”.

Step Two: In the "Action” box, have the following settings as shown below.

Make sure your BUYERS (this means you need to build another list) list is selected, and then click "Save Automation Rule”.

Now once users subscribers to your buyers list, they automatically are unsubscribed from your subscribers list.

Note: Your buyers list doesn’t need any follow up messages besides a "Welcome”.

Step 8: Manual Broadcasts

This may as well be left out, but for those of you that don’t know what to do next, this is for you.

After you finish everything, you will continue to send out manual broadcast emails to your list(s). These will include regular check-ups on your subscribers, offers, and whatever else you feel necessary.

The time between emails is entirely up to you, however, my recommendation is every 1 -3 days.

Step 9: Drive In Traffic!

This may as well be an entirely separate eBook considering the depth I could go into with this. In the future I plan on creating a guide for doing this in more ways, however, in this guide I will be giving out a few of the best ways to promote your giveaway product.

The reason for promoting your giveaway product and not your paid products is to let people know that you’re for real. If you have a free eBook that is exceptional, you’re better off selling your other products through that than if you were to sell products raw. What I mean by "raw” is that people do not know how you write and how good your products really are, so it is beneficial that they see what you can do first, for free.

Let’s get started, shall we?

Oh and on a side note, you should know this is quite easy. No link building. No profile backlinking. No SEO crap. Nothing like anything you’ve done with websites before (assuming...that you have). This is all simple as can be. Am I confusing you? If so, I’ll stop. LET’S START!

Forums have some of the most loyal members you’ll ever find. And we certainly want loyal people on our email list. So to find your niche forums, you’ll simply be searching at google for example: fishing forums, or car forums, or beauty forums, etc.

Then simply contact the forum owner to buy an advertisement thread of some sort giving away your free guide. The owner should be okay with you promoting a free giveaway that can benefit the members. Also, I don’t recommend paying more than $25 for a thread promoting your giveaway.

Decision Fatigue

Don't underestimate the amount of mental energy required to make even small decisions. While it might not seem like a big deal, deciding what to have for breakfast, what to wear and where to go for dinner all take a toll on your energy levels. Making these small decisions can deplete your reserves and can end up having a cumulative effect that contributes to burnout. This is actually the reason that Steve Jobs famously wore the same black top and jeans every single day - so that he could eliminate the tiring process of having to choose what to wear. You don't have to go that far but having a consistent breakfast will make life considerably easier.

Make Sacrifices

Some things can't be outsourced or automated and in these cases you might just need to make sacrifices. This is especially true if you want to start fitting something else into your schedule.

If you're planning on working out 5 hours a week consistently on top of your already hectic schedule for instance, then you're likely to find that it just doesn't work. Instead, you need to make sure that you give up something else you do regularly in order to make the time necessary for the job.

An example of this would be to give up any clubs you do regularly that you don't absolutely need. Or alternatively you might just have to say no to the occasional invitation. While it's upsetting to turn down things you want to do - or that you feel you have to do - ultimately it's necessary sometimes. Remember, there's a limited amount you can do. You just can't do everything. That means you need to prioritize.

Habits and Lifestyle

A few small changes to your lifestyle and habits can also make a big difference by giving you less stress throughout your daily routine.

One example of this is to go more minimalist and to get rid of a lot of the stuff you don't need. Most of us have boxes and rubbish on top of our wardrobes and under our beds that we never look at. You might think those boxes are harmless but in fact their mere presence will be a slight stressor when you're trying to relax in that room, they will make it more difficult to find the things you're looking for and they will get in the way if you ever need to move.

If you haven't been in one of those boxes in the last 6 months, then chances are that you don't really need what's in them. So bite the bullet, be ruthless and throw them out. You'll be surprised by just how liberating this is.

Likewise, if you have lots of ornaments and clutter on your surfaces you should get rid of some of that. Doing so will mean you instantly improve the average quality of what's on display (because the stuff you leave will be the best stuff) and that cleaning and tidying is 100% easier.

Try to get into good habits that will pay off in the long run. Make your bed every single morning - it's one very small step but it makes a big difference to the look of your room and it's a great way to get yourself into a productive and efficient mindset.

You should also look into investing in simple gadgets and services that can make life better. Spend all morning ironing? Get a hand-held steamer. Got piles of dirty plates in the kitchen? Get a dishwasher. Waking up with low energy in winter? Get a daylight lamp from a manufacturer like Lumie and get woken up with a natural sunrise simulation every morning. Sometimes a small purchase can make a big difference.

In terms of your work life meanwhile, it might be suitable to try the favored approach of Tim Ferriss (author of The Four Hour Workweek) who recommends using the 80/20 principle to look at the 20% of activities that deliver the 80% of results. In other words, if you have 10 clients, there's a good chance that you get the vast majority of your work from 20% of them - and that the rest are just taking up a lot of your time without really paying off. The solution? Get rid of that 80% and focus on the 20% that are working for you. A lean business is more manageable and resilient and it results in a better work/life balance.

Learning to Relax

So you've made yourself some free time by cancelling plans, outsourcing things and removing a few minor decisions. This right away should make you feel a little bit better but unfortunately for many people it won't.

Why? Because although they might physically stop working and give themselves the time they need to relax, they nevertheless don't give themselves the mental break. If you're relaxing on the couch but you're ruminating and stressing about all the work you still have to do, then you are not getting the recharging break that you need. In fact it's worse in some ways because you won't have any physical tasks to distract you from your stress.

In order to properly recharge and to avoid adrenal fatigue you need to switch your mind off as well and you need to avoid additional sources of stressors.

If you crash in front of the TV on the couch, then you are not getting your batteries recharged. Instead, you're increasing cortisol levels due to the unnatural light from the TV, you're worsening aching joints by maintaining a bad posture and you're probably going to still be panicking and stressing about work while you stare at the moving images on the screen. Looking at your phone and texting is even worse. And texting while watching TV is pretty much an invitation for burnout.

A far better example of recharging your batteries would be to read a book. The reason for this is that when you read a book, you lose your inner monologue (because you're sounding out the words). This means you literally can't worry yourself by stressing about work and it means that you get to escape your reality for a bit. There will be less natural light, no sudden noises and you'll be able to relax much more fully. Drawing or painting is also particularly good.

Another thing you can do is to exercise. That might sound like the worst thing you can do to recharge your batteries but bear in mind that it's a mental break you're looking for, not necessarily a physical one.

Chapter 4: The Important of Building Your Swing

Synopsis

Once you have a basic understanding of what type of gear to get and the basic rules of golf it is time for you to start working on and improving your golf swing. Many people make the mistake of trying to swing a golf club like it is a baseball bat and this never works in their favor. There is a certain level of power that must be applied by the golfer but in all honesty the club and your body creates much of the power, not your arms.

If you want to be able to impress people and conquer the course with impressive skills it is important that you work on your swing until it is nearly flawless. As mentioned before in this book, no matter what type of gear you have your game will still be off without a proper golf swing.

The following chapter will go over the basics of a golf swing and will provide you with some pointers that should help you improve your golf swing.

Improve Your Swing

Your golf swing is very important when it comes to your golf game, especially if you want to ever be good at the game. Your golf swing can be thought of kind of like your foundation for your golf game. Your skill level will never improve if you do not improve your foundation, or your swing. Perfecting a golf swing is not something that you will likely be able to do overnight. It will likely take a great deal of time and you will have to continue to work on it even after it is mastered to make sure it stays up to par. If you look you will notice that many golfers who are good at the game are constantly out on driving ranges working on their golf swings.

The following are some simple tips that you may want to consider trying in order to improve your golf swing.

Keep Your Hands Low

You want to try and keep your hands in a lower position while performing a golf swing. The reason for this is the fact that keeping your hands lower will result in the golf ball flying further in distance instead of higher into the air. Keep in mind, some situations will require you to pop the ball up high for a short amount of distance. But in most cases you want to be able to launch the ball far, especially when teeing off.

Use Your Body

As mentioned before, the power that you use to hit the golf ball should come from your body and not from your arms. Using your arms to generate the force for the swing will lead to decreased accuracy and low control of the golf ball.

Proper Body Stance

It is very important that you have the proper stance while you are trying to execute a golf swing. You should have your knees, feet, hips, shoulders, forearms as well as your eyes parallel to your target or the hole. You need to stand with your knees at least shoulder width apart to allow smooth body motions. You then want to flare your target foot about twenty to forty degrees to allow your body to rotate toward your target during your downswing. You want to make sure that your back foot is squared or ninety degrees to the target. Make sure that this foot is slightly open in order to ensure that your body can perform the proper hip turn during your downswing. People will have differences in how open their foot is because this will be determined by how flexible you are as well as how fast you are able to turn your body.

Ball Position

It is very important that you know where to place your ball before swinging. Different clubs call for different placements, either closer to or further away from the target foot. For example, drivers will be placed closer to the target foot while wedges will be further from the target foot and closer to the center of the body. Short irons should be played in the center portion of your stance and should not be closer to either one of your feet. These types of clubs must be swung with a steep angle and are good for when balls have a divot in front of them. Target irons should be placed one ball toward the target foot away from the center. These clubs have a shorter pop and do not need to be used to steeply. When using long irons you want to have the ball positioned two balls toward the target foot from center. The ball should also be hit on the bottom of the swing arc and there should be very little divot.

Place Your Weight on the Balls of Your Feet

To have a proper golf swing you will need to learn how to distribute your weight to the balls of your feet and off of your heels and your toes. When using short irons you want sixty percent of your weight to be on your target foot. You want to have your knees slightly bent and all weight on the balls of your feet as this will strengthen your balance and will result in a much better golf swing.

A lot of your golf swing is going to come down to hitting the driving ranges and practicing. However, if you apply a few of these tips you will surely begin to see improvements in no time at all.

Wrapping Up

Golfing can be a very fun experience. It offers something for everyone from those who are looking for an activity to do with their spare time or for those who just love to enjoy beautiful scenery. Those who enjoy other sports will surely enjoy golf for its beauty as well as its challenge. It can be quite fun to have a friendly competition between you and your buddies out on the golf course. If you practice enough you will surely impress them the next time you are out. Your golf buddies will truly be surprised when you go out on the course and dominate them and completely conquer the course.

Chapter 6: The Importance of Grips

Synopsis

The type of grip that you choose to place on your racquet will have an impact on your game, whether it be a positive impact of a negative impact. Grips are very important and have a lot of effect on a person’s tennis strokes. There are many different types of grips and each of them feature different types of textures and come in different sizes and thickness.

Choosing the right grips for you may seem like a complicated process but it really is not that hard at all, especially when you have some hints to help you along your way.

The following chapter will go over the basics of choosing the right grip for you and will provide you with some helpful hints that you should let serve as your guidelines when shopping for new grips.
Grips that are A Good Fit

The general rule of thumb to go by would be to find a grip that is most suitable for the individual as it is not a one size fit all kind of concept. The grip will not only determine the quality of play that the player eventually displays but can also affect the body conditions negatively.

Basically it would be better to start with a smaller grip size and then make adjustments until the grip size is both comfortable and safe for the user. If the grip used is unsuitable, there will be some twisting of the hand to execute the stoke each time it is executed, thus contributing to the possibility of getting tennis elbow syndrome. This is a rather painful condition and almost always requires the attention of a medical professional.

The ideal grip size is usually found anywhere between the standard measurements of 4” to 4 and 5/8” and are at about 1/8” in intervals. The grip is often calculated by referring to the circumference of the grip the individual makes when holding the racquet. In order to get an estimation of the most appropriate grip size, a ruler should be placed at the bottom of the horizontal crease in the palm of the hand that is going to be holding the racquet. The measurement is taken from this point to the tip of the ring finger. This will indicate the ideal grip size for the individual. However if there is a need, and additional over grip can the added on which is about 1/16” in size to make the grip feel more comfortable.

Another method for measuring the grip would be to observe the amount of space between the fleshy part of the pal, and fingertips. Being able to “plug” this gap with the index finger of the other hand comfortably without any looseness or tightness (that doesn’t allow the finger in), would then give the player a good idea of the suitability of the grip chosen.

Finding grips that are right for you will probably involve you using many different types of grips until you find the ones that are the most comfortable and work the best for you.

Chapter 7: Working on the Perfect Swing

Synopsis

There are a few set motions to follow in order to be able to execute the perfect tennis swing. By following these motions as closely as possible an individual will be able to master their swing well enough to break the opponent’s percentage of ball possession, thus improving the chances of scoring points.

You may not be aware of what these motions are or how to perform them. If this is the case do not worry. The following chapter will go over the basics of these motions and will provide you with some tips that will surely help you to master your swing.
Perfecting Your Swing

The following are some tips on how to go about perfecting your tennis swing:Getting ready to receive and return the hit will require the player to keep the racquet in a back position all the time. Once the ball is hit by the opponent, the player should immediately react and move to a position that would be ideal to receive and return the ball with a quick and fluid motion.

While establishing the balance in the stance, the player should be aware of allowing the stoke to be played with the non-dominant hand while keeping the racquet pointed away from the intended target at a waist high position. Maintaining enough space between the body and the ball when in the final position to return the shot is important. Always ensuring the ball is hit from a waist high stroke will help to keep the balance and the return stroke accurately placed.

Making contact with ball when the racquet head is positioned at the same height as the hand is important and this should be done while remembering not to bend or straighten the arm. Moving the wrists to accommodate the stroke is also not encouraged as it will change the direction of the contact on the return stroke. Instead the player should be accustomed to rotating the shoulder while keeping an eye on the ball at all times to calculate the ideal return stroke.

Perhaps the best thing that you can do to master your swing is practice. Even the professionals have to practice from time to time to ensure that their game is at its best. You will likely not master your tennis swing overnight, it might actually take quite a long time. Some professionals will even admit that they are still improving their tennis swing.

Chapter 8: Practicing the Right Spin

Synopsis

Being able to execute varied strokes effectively and efficiently will allow the player to serve better and be capable of more competitive strokes and will present much more of a challenge to their opponent. This will also create opportunities for the player to score points and win the game easily.

One type of stroke that is important to master is the spin. Spins can be quite tricky to master, but once you are able to execute them you will almost immediately notice an improvement in your tennis game. Spins can be hard to master but they are even harder to return effectively.

The following chapter will go over spins and will give you some tips that should help you master them in no time.

Master Your Spins

The two main spin techniques would be the topspin and the backspin and being able to execute either one of these with a suitable force, will create ideal circumstances for the possibility of the opponent not being able to take and return the stroke successfully.
