Aesthetics

Now make sure your blog looks like a blog and not like a sales page. This shouldn't be hard to do because you're NOT making sales pages, you're NOT hard selling anything. The purpose of your site is to entertain first and foremost.

Make your blog look like a blog. I'm not going to get into the details of Wordpress or blogs or finding themes that work.

I'm also NOT going to give you theme examples or blog examples for how you should style your blog.

Why Not You Scream!?

Because if I do everyone will have the exact same blog.

It happens every time I tell people to be original and use my examples as inspiration or some example themes.

They always copy the site or theme to a tee - then we get thousands of people out there trying to submit the exact same type of blog and content.

It just doesn't work when you do it like that. Outbrain will start to see all these same submissions and the overall quality of this course goes in the toilet.

If you're visually challenged - Google some Wordpress themes, find a magazine type of theme and make sure your blog looks and feels established with great images throughout, social sharing options, a filled out sidebar and so on.

A couple critically important things your blog needs:

To look great.

A way to socially share your content (I like a floating sidebar on the left)

"Related Content" - I generally put this at the end of my content, so when they reach the end of my content they will hopefully click through to more content or subscribe.

There are plugins for #2 and #3. There's no plugin for #1 as you're just going to have to make the blog look good on your own (try using StumbleUpon to look through lots of blogs to get aesthetics ideas - but generally speaking if you find a great looking theme it won't be tough.)

For #2 & #3 plugins like Sociable as well as nrelate Related Content will make your life easier. These things not only encourage social sharing (viral anyone?) but also encourage people to spend time on your website.

Tracking, Capturing & Monetization

By this point I want you to have a good looking website because we're DONE with the site aesthetics and content setup. If you're site looks like garbage or your content is low quality? Go back and fix it. If you have a great looking website and engaging content you're ready for the next step.

So obviously you're here to make money.

I monetize my blogs in a variety of ways, but my primary means of monetization is by capturing emails and making money from the list. When you have a list you'll make money from your website long after people have left.

You can setup long autoresponder chains with loads of informative content as well as promotional content. While I won't get into the ins and outs of building a list and promoting - I will say that should be your number 1 objective.

If you don't have an autoresponder it's time to step up to the big leagues and get one. Aweber is the natural choice for most, it's easy to setup and integrate into your website and has a feature rich email builder.

Not only do you need an autoresponder but you also need to setup some signup forms on your site. I always setup a right hand sidebar sign up form but if you REALLY want to get subscribers and fast, you want a popup at the end of your content. The reason is it's intrusive, it's annoying, it's in your face and it WORKS.

So what happens is you pay for only the visitors that click your link, and those that get to the end of your content then are hit with an option to sign up for your email list.

Services like Pippity are great as you can setup timers OR determine areas on the page the visitors must scroll to before the popup shows. I almost always set mine to popup as the user is reaching the end of the content.

Why?

These are the most engaged users.

Timers don't always work as well because people read at different speeds and also may get distracted and move away from the page, then if they return later and just see a popup? They'll bounce.

Now Pippity is a paid service, there are other services out there that are free but don't offer as many rich features. If you're serious you're going to need one with a few features and I'd recommend Pippity first and foremost as I've used them extensively on all my websites where I capture emails.

The great thing about Pippity is you get analytics on your form submissions.

What's that mean?

It means you can test and tweak your submission form for optimal opt-in performance. You can even track how long popups are up -which will allow you to measure if your readers are looking at it or dismissing it.

Again - I'm no sales rep for them, but finding a service like this is crucial and will pay for itself very quickly - and if you want to build a business you need to invest in the necessary tools.

Also keep the following in mind: If you want your users to sign up, you need to give them a reason to sign up. You need to incentivize them.

ection 3: Flipping And Scaling

Alas the payoff. It's time for you to make your money back and then some. In this section we're going to cover listing your site, which includes what to put in the sales page as well as how to treat your auction when it's live, what to do after the sale and scaling up into a full fledged business.

First things first do another once over on your site and make sure everything is looking good. Check sidebars, inner post pages, menus and categories. If you need a site as a reference take a look at BlueTidalWave.com or our case study wherein we go over aesthetics and cover why the site sold.

Once you're ready to sell your site it's time to focus on your listing. I've included a sample listing PDF which you can use as a SAMPLE.

Please DO NOT copy the listing exactly for your own sake. If everyone and their mother starts making identical looking websites and sells them with identical sales pages, it's not good for anyone. Paraphrase the listing, hell pay an outsourcer to rewrite it for $5 but don't straight COPY it. You can see the included listing sample PDF but we'll be going over what you MUST include in your listing below and WHY.

Writing Your Listing

Before you can list your site you have to write the listing. Don't rush through writing your listing as it's the connection between your site and your potential buyers and you don't want to turn any potential bidders away with poor grammar or because you left something out.

Below are things to include in your listing, review them then jump over to the listing sample PDF and read through the example listing and start working on your own.

Introduction - In the introduction you want to give a brief 1-2 paragraph synopsis of the site, the PR, the authority in the domain and the potential value to the new owner. This will be just enough to get casual browsers baited into reading more about the auction. Talk briefly about the niche, the page rank, the backlinks, the growth potential and the monetization options.

Quick Stats - In the quick stats section you will essentially be reiterating many of the stats that Flippa provides in bullet points while also putting in some of the vital value added statistics we spent so much time hunting for in our domains. This includes domain age, Page Rank, backlinks, Domain Authority,
Page Authority, amount of content on the site, uniqueness of content and any other vital stats related to the domain (which could be Alexa rank, DMOZ listing or anything else of value.)

Aesthetics, Content And Images - In the content and Images section you want to stress the quality of the content and images you've spent time putting together for the site. Talk about the perfect grammar and high quality engaging content in the niche. Encourage browsers to visit the site and read the content. Include some title examples from the site. Talk about how unique the site is appearance wise and how much it stands out from the crowd in terms of quality. You spent the time putting together a killer looking website, it's time to show off.

Monetization Options - This part is huge. You want to get people excited about the prospects of owning the site and show them how they could benefit financially from ownership. Since the site has page rank, one of the best ways to make money on the site regardless of traffic is to sell guest post with links to websites. This is one of the huge selling points for these quick flips and is something you need to tout here. Talk about how the new owner can sell guest post for SEO purposes to other websites in the niche and how much revenue can be pulled in. Talk about how large the niche is and the possibility for guest post sales.

Who Can Run The Site - Many of your bidders may be completely new to the website buying world. This is the case for any website being sold on Flippa. Many people on Flippa are browsing and have money to invest to start or grow a website portfolio. Talk about how this site would be a great addition to their portfolio based on the niche, the quality of the content, the age of the domain, the Page Rank and so on. Mention how the site is easy to run with Wordpress and your willingness to help the new owner learn and get used to the site.

What's Included With The Auction - Here you want to talk about everything included in the sale such as the domain, all rights to content on the website and any other bonuses you wish to include. I always include an excel spreadsheet detailing urls and titles for all content on the site as well as writer contact information to the new owner. I also include support for life, free hosting for a few months as well as additional queued content.

Potential And Growth - In this section talk about the entire niche in general and how the site is positioned to be an authority in the niche with a bit of effort put into the content and promotion. Mention how the opportunity is there for people to jump in to an already built site in a desirable niche without the need to start from scratch.

Transfer - In the transfer section I always mention my willingness to transfer the site for the client.

Many times they'll transfer it themselves, sometimes they'll need some help. If you're uncomfortable doing this you can pay someone (usually around $10) to do the transfer for you or take a peak on YouTube and find videos detailing every step of the transfer. With your profits it's worth spending a few dollars to have the transfer done for you. It's all about speed and automation.

Questions - In this section I try and stress my willingness to help people out when it comes to the site and how I'm here to answer any questions they have about the site, the content or anything else in between. Make yourself personable and be there for their questions, it will read well and boost their confidence in you as a seller, especially if you're new to Flippa.

Chapter 4: Types Of Videos You Can Create

Below are the main types of videos that you can create for your business marketing purposes.

Talking Head

This is the most common traditional type of video and is probable still the one that comes to peoples minds first when they think of video creation.

Standard “head and shoulders,” directly looking at the camera. The talking head video is popular because it works. It’s perfect for most personal, promotional videos, whether it’s a direct appeal, an “about me” video, or a “first impression” video on your home page.

Recorded Screencast

This is another very popular format for a video with more and more people are now creating short screencasts using Jing as you can record your video right on your computer.

Screencast videos are very popular and powerful, so they’re definitely something want to try when it comes to marketing on YouTube. Camtasia is still the best in the business when it comes to screencasts, and if you are using a mac then we would recommend Screenflow.

Animated Video

Animation or motion graphics videos used to be out of reach for most people, but video creation sites, Apps and services from the likes of GoAnimate.com have made it easier and more affordable for you to create your own cartoon based video and the great news is these videos convert really well! opened up new possibilities for creating your own cartoons.

Interview

If you’re ready to take the talking head video one step further, add another person to the mix and make it an interview video. Interview videos can be two or more people on camera, or can be “news style” with the interviewer off camera and the subject on camera. Today, interview videos can be easily created using Skype, Google Hangouts.

Video Powerpoint

Another popular format is the narrated PowerPoint - this method is very simple and so easy to do, all you need to do is create your slides using Powerpoint or Keynote for the mac and then add your own narration to the slides and you will have yourself a video!

Sales Video

While it is obvious that any video is really a sales video in this case we are referring to video sales pages, where often the sales page is nothing more than a video and a “buy” button. These videos are often nothing more than text and narration or a PowerPoint with a voice over.

Product Videos

Info product videos are simply video content that has been packaged for sale as a physical or digital product. If you’ve got webinars or teaching videos that you can turn into DVDs for sale, then you’ve got a product video!

Webinar Video

Another often overlooked video format is the recorded webinar. As long as you record your webinar then you could use it as a video

Video Testimonials

Testimonial videos are a powerful, yet under-utilized tool for providing social proof. These can be used on your website or on a sales page promoting a specific product or service.

Chapter 5: Top Strategy's For Making Money On YouTube

Strategy 1: Creating YouTube Channels For Local Businesses

A fabulous way to make money using YouTube is by setting up a service where you create YouTube channels for the local businesses in your area.

A YouTube channel can be a massive benefit to a local business and if set up correctly it can benefit the business in many different ways.

However the problem a lot of businesses owners have is that they don’t have the knowledge and/or the time to set up and market their business correctly on YouTube.

Even though they know that this will not only help create instant brand recognition for them but they know that it will also help them rank higher and therefore be found easier in the search engines.

Another thing YouTube channels can give a business is that they allow them to grow 24/7. People watch videos on YouTube night and day and they don't only watch them they comment and share them all of which can help a business to grow, using one of the most modern marketing methods available.

More and More Local business owner are coming to realize that YouTube channels as being of a higher value than other traditional marketing techniques. The cost of creating and running a TV commercial for their business can be incredibly high therefore if you can create their channels and even rank their videos for them that will be a service they are more than happy to pay for not just once but month after month.

Chapter 4: Creating High Quality, Effective E-Mails

Once you've put all that work into creating a mailing list and growing it to include thousands of e-mails, the next step is to actually send out great quality e-mails that your subscribers will actually read and that will help to drive sales. Otherwise, the entire exercise has been pointless.

Writing great quality e-mail copy in many ways is just the same as writing any good content - and all the same rules of engaging and persuasive writing apply. At the same time though, there will also be some considerations that are unique to the format. Let's take a look at both.

Writing Engaging Copy

The goals of your newsletters/e-mails should be the same as the goals of your blog posts. This is content marketing and as such you want to provide real value in your content that builds the trust of your visitors. This means sharing useful and actionable advice in a way that's entertaining - such that they will be more likely to trust you when you deliver your service and that they will be more likely to want to open your next e-mail.

To achieve this, consider the following things:

Tone: The tone of your e-mails is going to depend largely on the nature of your niche/industry and of course a B2B company will use a much more professional tone than a single blogger. With that said, remember that e-mail is the method that most of us use to converse with friends and we generally expect a more conversational tone as a result. Talk as though you're talking to a friend and take advantage of the more personal format of an e-mail versus a blog post. This will help you with building trust too.

Getting to the Point: Most people who are checking their e-mails will be in a hurry. This is just an unfortunate fact of life that you need to take into account when you write your copy. Remember they have a thousand other things they need to be doing and don't have time for your waffle - get to the point quickly, or tease the value of your message early on in the message.

Uniqueness: Top ten posts of the best exercises and great apps have been done to death. If you want people to read your content then you need to offer something that no-one else is offering. Provide exclusive information, in-depth guides, powerful tips and stimulating debate. Remember that these people have asked for more of your content - so give them the VIP treatment and make sure they're getting your very best stuff.

Of course you also need to ensure that your content is well-written, as near-to-error-free as possible and generally effective at showing you in a good light. If you don't consider yourself a good writer then hire someone that is!

Subject Headings

The most important part of your e-mails though is undoubtedly the subject heading. Remember we said earlier that 1/3rd of consumers decide whether or not to read their e-mails based on the subject heading alone - so make yours stand out as compelling.

Now you might be expecting me to list a number of 'tricks' you can use to get people to open their e-mails here. Many bloggers and 'gurus' advise writing subject headings with 'Re:' in the title so that people think they're responses to previous e-mails, others might advocate asking for the reader's 'help' with something.

Do these strategies work in getting people to open e-mails? Sure they do. But they also frustrate and aggravate readers, they damage any trust you've built and they prevent them from opening future e-mails.

So what do you do instead? Simple: you use compelling titles that describe the value of the content within. This is just the same as writing titles for your blog posts. If you can tell your readers what you're offering and why they should listen and if they're genuinely interested in the subject, then they will want to read more.

Note: As a final tip, make sure you are sending your e-mails regularly but not so regularly that you get on everyone's nerves. Try to stick largely to a routine of once a week or once a month and get to the point where your readers are actively looking forward to getting your mails.

Chapter 5: Monetization

Finally, you need to ensure that you're monetizing your mailing list and that it's actually providing a return on investment.

The number one way to do this is by promoting your products and services regularly in each message. Again, most people will ignore that promotion the first and second time but as they come to know you and respect your opinion, they will become increasingly likely to bite.

Of course once you've built this trust there are then tried and tested ways of capitalizing on that work. Here your objective is to motivate your captive audience to go from loyal readers to buyers and this requires a little 'nudge' with perfect timing.

The good news is that once someone has bought from you once, they become much more likely to do so again in the future. The reason for that is that they'll have overcome any uncertainty they have about dealing with you, their details will likely be saved with your checkout system and buying again will require much less of a psychological hurdle as a result.

So how do you give that 'nudge' that will make first time buyers out of your readers?

Calls to Action

The most important factor in your strategy here is your call to action. Each message that you're intending to sell from needs to feature a message at some point which should tell people why they should take action and then make it as easy as possible for them to do so.

An example might sound something like this:

But why wait? Click PRE-ORDER now and you can be among the first to take advantage of this great offer!

Or

See why so many customers choose COMPANY/PRODUCT NAME. Click BUY now and get your hands on this fantastic product!

Removing Barriers to Sale

Included in your call-to-action should be a direct link to your checkout page which should be designed to make it as easy as possible for people to enter their details and secure a purchase.
