How Do I Water A Container Garden?

Watering a container garden is vital if you want your plants to survive, so it is important that you think about access to your containers and how far they are from your water source. If they are too far then carrying the water becomes a burden and you may end up finding excuses not to water your plants.

Your plants will need watering whenever they become dry and you can check this by pushing your finger in to the soil up to the second knuckle. If it feels dry at your finger tip then it needs watering. If it feels wet then do not water it.

Do not think that just because it rains your containers do not need watering. Because there is a limited soil area in a container and much of this is covered by plants you will be surprised how little rain actually gets in to a container! This means that even in the rain you will need to go out and water your containers.

Plants prefer watering in the morning which is when they are sucking up water to prepare for their growth during the day. However, if this is not possible then feel free to water them in the evening as they will not complain too much.

Just be very careful that you water at the roots of the plant, directly on to the soil rather than on the leaves. This prevents the water from running off the plants and completely missing the roots of your plants. It will also prevent many of the diseases and problems that plants have.

If you water the leaves in the morning then the water droplets on the leaves can act like magnifying glasses and magnify the rays of the sun so that the leaves get burnt and damaged. If you water them in the evening then you risk introducing mildew or other fungal diseases because the leaves do not get chance to dry out well enough.

You will want to water your plants daily during the growing season if they need it and whilst you do, check the plants for any pests or diseases too.

What About Fertilizing My Containers?

If you have used the soil mix that was mentioned earlier in this report then you will not need to fertilize your containers at all in the first year. If you have not then you are likely to have to start fertilizing them when the fruit appears.

A liquid feed is best as it easy to apply and goes straight to the roots where it is needed. You can get specific feeds for specific plants, i.e. a tomato food. It is best to use this where you can as it gives the plants the exact balance of nutrients that they need to promote healthy growth. If you use a fertilizer high in nitrogen with tomato plants then they will concentrate on producing leaves and not fruit. Therefore you need to use the right type of food for your plants.

Follow the directions on the fertilizer for how to best use it with your vegetable plants. You will want to feed them once every week or two, depending on how greedy the plants are. A pumpkin will need a lot more food than something like a radish or beet.

How Can I Minimize The Risk Of Pests?

Pests are a big problem for any gardener and hopefully you will avoid many of the problems that come from growing directly in soil. When you water your plants, give them a quick visual inspection and check for pests and other problems.

You may encounter aphids, which gather on the tender tips of your plants and the new growth. If you catch these early enough then you can pick them off by hand and crush them between your fingers. If they have taken hold then you are probably going to have to use a spray to get rid of them. Use organic if you can as this is going to be much better for the environment. Always check the label though and make sure that the spray is suitable for edible crops. If it does not explicitly state this then avoid the spray as it could introduce potential toxins in to your vegetables and so in to your body.

Slugs and snails are other problematical pests that you are likely to encounter and these can be tricky to get rid of. There are lots of gimmicks that supposedly deter them but sadly none of them are particularly effective. Your best bet is to go out at dusk and pick them off your plants by hand and destroy them. Do not think that throwing them over the wall will deter them; they will be back! Therefore you have to destroy them to stop them destroying your crop. During the day time, check around your pots for their slimy trails; you may find them hiding underneath or behind your pots during the day!

There are other pests that can affect particular plants though just look out for any problems, holes, discoloration and the like on your vegetables. If you do spot anything then look in to it carefully and see what is causing it. It is better to take action sooner rather than later as you are more likely to be able to save your crop.

What About Diseases In Container Gardens?

Diseases tend to be less of a problem in containers because you are using a clean soil. Many of the common plant diseases are found in the soil and by not growing in the ground you can avoid these problems.

Some diseases are air born and you can find diseases such as potato or tomato blight affecting your plants where it has blown in. This can be noticed by the leaves and stems starting to turn brown and curl up. If you notice the blight then you need to treat it immediately in order to prevent it from taking hold and killing your plants. If it is late enough in the season then you can cut the foliage off potatoes and the potatoes themselves will be okay under the ground. You can remove fruit from tomato plants and ripen it on a windowsill though the fruit can still be affected.

Tip #7: Use The Hollywood System To Your Advantage

You’ve done the job at getting a reader to click on your email. Now it’s time to harness the power of the Hollywood System to your advantage: Creating a compelling build up!

You never want your email messages to be boring, stale or long-winded. Instead, you want to keep it exciting and fresh. You can do this in two parts: 1) Maintain your subscriber’s interest and 2) Build excitement and energy.

You maintain their interest by staying focused and on topic. Deliver clear value and be very direct in what it is that you are offering (the “Why” of your email as we mentioned earlier). Never lose focus, but don’t reveal everything at once. Give them just enough in your opener to stay glued to the message.

Then, build momentum. Explain the key benefits of your offer, show them how it will change their life or help them in some way. Address concerns, reveal truths, exploit weaknesses in other products and take them on an exciting journey from your greeting to your last call to action. It’s all about the buildup!

The Hollywood System is especially important when using email campaigns to promote an upcoming product launch.

This is where you reveal the product in parts - bite-sized information that is strung out over a period of time.

Many email marketers (including us!) use this strategy even before the product is actually finished and ready for market in order to gain insight, feedback and build anticipation while gauging interest levels.

Tip #8: Avoid The Spam Filters

Being successful in email marketing requires knowing exactly howto dance around the many spam filters, triggers and blacklists that are waiting to snatch up your email and deliver it to the black abyss.

Research has revealed that 1 out of every 6 marketing-based emails end up blocked by a spam filter.

Here are a few ways to avoid being blocked or filtered:

Avoid Marketing Lingo

Make sure that your entire email message is structured in a way that lends value and credibility to your brand and doesn’t sound ‘salesy’.

“Hey everyone! This is your chance to win a free...” will only guarantee a quick trip to the spam folder. Make sure that your email messages sound genuine and personable.

Build Well-Managed Lists

Don’t ever purchase bulk lists of email addresses. You’ll risk your credibility and ruin your reputation. Instead, build lists of double-opt ins, which are people who have directly requested to be on your list and have confirmed their interest by clicking on a verification email. Also, make sure that you give people an easy way to unsubscribe from your lists in the event they wish to do so. Keep your lists clean.

Avoid Keyword Triggers

Make sure that your emails don’t get flagged as spam by avoiding the overuse of exclamation marks, percentages and common marketing terms such as “free”, “limited time”, "special offer” and “buy now”. Also avoid using currency symbols whenever possible.

Note: It’s also important to pay attention to your text-to-link ratio. Make sure that your email contains adequate content and that your links are limited.

BEWARE: Don’t try to get around keywords by using asterisks or hash tags (Example: Download Your F-R*E.E G*rFT!) - you won’t fool the spam filters for long!

Consider Domains Carefully

When sending from a domain based email address keep in mind that the reputation of your domain (as well as the history) plays a significant role in whether your email gets through or not. This includes the email addresses that you use in your “From” field.

Build a positive reputation by only sending relevant, high quality emails and when purchasing a domain name from a merchant, make sure that it isn’t blocked or blacklisted.

Getting Into The Minds Of Your Buyers

If you want to increase your sales, you have to get into the minds of your buyers, and understand how and why they think the way they do. The more information you can gather and analyze - through using sites like Alexa to track the competition and Heat Maps to track the information on your own website - the easier it will be to create products that are guaranteed to sell.

If you’ve been creating products based on what you think your audience wants, you’ve been going about it in the wrong way. It’s all about finding a need your audience already has, and figuring out how to fill that need.

That’s why you should never begin creating products until you know your audience. You can get to know them in various ways - by exploring the market, finding out what they like and dislike about similar products in your market, evaluating the competition, researching demand and finally, discovering a unique angle that you can take, in order to ensure that your products stand-out in the market!

Tracking Results

Of course there comes a time when you have to think about launching a product and seeing where it takes you. For this you’ll need a dedicated website and a sales page that is designed to bring in as many buyers as possible.

This is where a service like CrazyEgg’s heatmap comes in extremely handy. Let’s imagine you write your sales page and put it up there for people to find. Once you start getting traffic to it you can use the likes of Google Analytics to see which phrases are bringing people to the site and how long they are staying there before they leave - or go through to buy your product, as the case may be.

But the Heat Map will show you how your links are performing, what pages are more popular than others as well as what areas of your website could use improvement in order to boost conversion rates.

Heat Maps won’t only show you which links, graphics and pages are receiving more exposure, clicks or visits, but it can also help you determine how colors, headlines, sub headlines and other sales page elements are affecting sales.

For example, let’s say you’ve used two different colors for two different buy now buttons. One color may be outperforming the other one, but unless you know which one is doing this you won’t be able to capitalize on it and change the color of the other buttons as well. A Heat Map will highlight which button is outperforming the other, making it easy for you to change!

You shouldn’t underestimate the power of testing and tracking when it comes to launching any new product. It can be the difference between a successful product and an absolute loss.

A/B Split Testing

It’s worth mentioning the process of A/B testing here. You may also have heard this referred to as split testing. We made a brief mention of this above when we talked about having two different colored buy now buttons.

The idea is you change just one element on two landing pages, whether it is a headline, bullet point, color scheme, layout or perhaps even just button or link placement.

For example you might have a newsletter you want to send out to your 2,000 strong email list. So you send 1,000 people the standard newsletter with one subject line, while the other 1,000 people get exactly the same newsletter with a different subject line.

Apart from the subject lines everything else is exactly the same.

By running an A/B split test campaign you can see which subject line drew the most attention, which one garnered a higher number of open-rates and which one ultimately out-performed the other.

The same test can be conducted to evaluate two different headlines, sub-headlines, greetings and even website designs.

Test your ideas. Test your audience. Find out what makes them tick - and then test whether they react more strongly to one element in your sales funnel than another.

The great thing is, some of this knowledge you’ll learn as you go along can be applied to more than one product launch. As you get to know your target audience, you’ll start to understand them better. You’ll instinctively know whether one product is likely to out-sell another. You’ll have far more hits than misses, and you’ll ultimately, sell more than you ever have before.

CHAPTER 5 Does Content Matter?

Writing About What You Love?

That's the most common cliche amongst bloggers, online experts and internet entrepreneurs. I'm sure you heard it before. I utilized this advice myself. It goes like this: If you want to make money online, you got pick a topic that you're passionate about. You need to enjoy it, else it won't work.

I used to agree with it, one hundred percent. Lately, however, I started calling into question that rule. Creating a site on a topic that you love is certainly a great technique, and it does work well for many individuals, but I'm not sure if it's the only way to go. The first flaw I see on that rule is the following fact: if the niche or topic you love isn't a profitable one, it will be pretty hard to make a lot of money online with it no matter what you do.

Suppose you love tea. Should you write about it if you want to make money online? I am not sure. You could certainly create a popular website around tea, but if you decided to go with a more profitable niche instead, while putting the same effort and time, you could end up making much more income.

One argument that people use to back up the “you got write about what you love” theory is the fact that if you choose a topic merely because it is profitable, soon you will lose the motivation. If you write about something you love, on the other hand, you will have content for years to come. This is partially true, but not completely, because some people get motivated by the pure desire of making money or becoming successful.

In other words, if they start a website on a profitable niche and see that their efforts is bringing a good amount of money, they will get motivated no matter what the topic is. They will even do research and learn about it if needed. So what is my position now? I think that both strategies can work.

Choosing a niche or topic because you love it is a good route to success, but choosing a profitable one and approaching it scientifically can be equally successful.

Unless you have your niche idea planned out it can take a little bit of research on finding your niche. Try looking at some of the more important factors when it comes to choosing a niche:

What gives you energy and excites you? If you blog about your passion, you are never going to struggle for content.

If you have an expert hobby or job role then you have a distinct advantage over everyone who is interested in your niche. You are already and authority.

You may not be an expert, but you may have the knowledge to create a lot of good content. This way you can create a lot of content for the search engines.

By learning your niche and making it your focus or business, you can take an audience on your journey from novice to expert. This is a very good way to create community.

Try blogging about hot topics and trends? This doesn’t tend to be sustainable, but can be good for short term niche blogging and Google traffic as the current niches are hot.

Whatever you do, try to take on a niche that you are not going to run out if content with and what has the potential to make money.

CHAPTER 6 Can Income Streams be Made?

Making Money, Fact? Or fiction?

If I speak about the subject of blogging, folks roll their eyes or smile in an “I do not understand but okay” kind of way. If I bring up the fact that I make income blogging, however, I abruptly have their attention.

The concept seems easy enough. I write about issues in my niches, individuals read it, and I make profit from the advertising be it whichever form I use. To those of us who’ve been doing it for a while, it's simple. To the novice blogger who is just getting in the business, all the same, it is important to recognize what you are getting into.

If you are new to blogging and interested in doing it for earnings, here are a couple things to bear in mind before dedicating yourself.

Blogging is simple. Blogging for profit is harder. I will not go as far as to say it is hard to draw a secondary income from blogging, but it is definitely harder than most individuals think. It is not just about creating material and slapping up some advertisements from respective companies or affiliates. Good writing, proper tinplating, advertisement placement, developing an audience... there are a lot of skills required to make a blog fruitful, all of which you will need to learn.

You need to blog for the long run or not at all. A vast majority of blogs bomb in the first few months, falling under neglect and disuse. A Couple blogs see earnings during the first few months. Unless you are able to stick with it for at least a year, you will probably never see any return for your effort, although there are some exceptions. Pick a niche that you enjoy and stick with it. General purpose or multi-topic blogs have difficulty developing a readership. Brainstorm the topics that you care about most, then pick one and blog about it exclusively.

Start with one blog. If you have a lot of items on your list of possible topics, don’t give in to the temptation to start a different blog for each one. By dividing your effort between several blogs, you increase the likelihood that all of them will fail. Put all of your effort into one blog to start. Once you get the hang of things, then you might consider branching out with additional blogs.

If you’re unsure, test drive it. The fact is that many people do not have the drive or stamina to blog for income successfully. If you are not sure, try a starter blog on a free service such as Blogger or WordPress.com. Feel it out for a few weeks. If, by the end of this time, you have stuck with it and find you like blogging is right for you, go ahead and commit to the effort. This advice applies equally well to test driving new topics if you’re unsure what to write about.

Chapter 6 Arrange The Ads In Your E-book

Though not widely accepted at the moment arranging ads for eBooks is fast gaining some level of popularity. The revenue earner is nowhere near phenomenal yet is would be something interesting and beneficial to consider.

The popular question that is currently hotly debated is whether or not eBooks should feature ads and if so how much should the authors receive in terms of revenue percentages.

Some eBook designers are now including platforms for advertising applications to facilitate revenue earning possibilities. Though it is still considered unfamiliar territory there are visible concerted efforts made to tap into this possibility for the future.

Attracting advertisers to the eBooks is an ongoing exercise but unlike other media there is some level of ambiguity when it comes to the accurate projection of sales derived from eBooks.

Some advertising can be comfortably applied to the particular device or brand author with a proven track record for sales to the digital versions made.

Then there is the possibility of garnering smaller advertising revenue projections which might be available to a target based audience for specific content. However meaningful projections of sales percentages which are to be based on corresponding advertising costs may prove to be rather difficult.

There are also those that are quite against the idea of including ads in the eBook style of publications as it is currently perceived to be somewhat annoying and cumbersome.

Those who choose not to be interrupted by such ads basically down load applications that stop such interruptions adequately thus defeating the overall intentions of advertising in the first place.

There is also the issue of interactive availability and color screen help when it comes to viewing the ad on eBook. To date both these issues though being addressed by the relevant experts it has reached a level where the eBook user gets optimum quality visual effects.

Chapter 7 Decide What Extras To Include In Your E-book Package

Designing an eBook is no longer just that. There should be other beneficial element added to the general make up of the eBook to make it more competitive. Exploring the various possibilities would be advantageous and definitely create the platform for more interest and revenue earnings.

The first and important step to take would be to ensure the material posted is done in a PDF format although HTML versions are also acceptable though not as accommodating. Apart from the revenue earning potential there is also the fact that eBooks present opportunities that ordinary printed information lacks.

Without restrictions in place such as using incompatible formats, the viewer should be able to access many platforms from the actual article posted. Understanding that simply be default the PDF format is searchable thus making is especially user friendly for “how to” eBook contents and other styles of reference works.

From the viewers point of view, finding and accessing information should be made easy and quick therefore making the text “clickable” would be advantageous.

Being able to click on a particular chapter, title or any segment and then having it immediately pop up is something that would be time and energy saving thus be looked upon favorably.

Providing further extras such as facilitating a link on the eBook that opens a web page or even starts an email is also a good idea. With this facility the viewer can easily make other references from different sources and also access web links.

The email pop up can be used to get immediate feedback from the viewer which would help the host to address any shortcomings.

Making recommendations on other products, services or businesses can also be done in the eBook. When the viewer clicks through to the site where the new information is being posted the affiliate program can then bring in extra revenue to the host.

Chapter 8 Market your E-book Depending On Its Use

Having a great eBook but marketing it without any real direction will bring about less than desirable results. Knowing the eBook contents and matching it with the target audience that will find the content suitable for their needs is an important factor to look into if the desired success rate is to be achieved.

Creating a market that is well served with the particular eBook is always a good idea and putting the relevant tool into practice to ensure this end will allow the eBook to be sold according to its particular niche market.

Once this is established more viewers will be interested in making a firm purchase.

Understanding that the eBook creator may not always be an authority on the current needs of the viewing public is a humble place to start.

Doing some research or arming one’s self with supporting information before the niche market is approached for the purpose of getting the eBook well received should be done at the very onset of deciding the marketing strategy.

Conducting surveys, keeping abreast with current comments on blogs, reading material from popular forums or any other information that can shed light on the perceptions toward the content of the eBook in the market will assist the eBook owner to make better judgments on who would be best served by viewing the said eBook.

This would then enable the owner to focus the attention on this group to promote the book to.

Understanding the customer is basically looking for real solutions when they source for eBooks will also assist in being able to promote the eBook according to its use. The target audience should be able to connect with the material in the eBook if it is to achieve any level of success.

Protect Your Websites And Beat The Hackers MRR Ebook

Ebook Sample Content Preview:

There are no signs that the growth of WordPress is going to slow, but what is known is that as more users come on board, the security risk grows higher. It is the responsibility of each user to make sure their site is as secure as possible. Let’s look at 6 WordPress security tips to protect your WordPress site from the danger of hacking.

#1 Stay Current - is very important that you stay current and up to date with your WordPress site including plugins and themes.

#2 Increase the Strength of Your Password -We hear a lot about strong passwords and yet we still create passwords that are weak and easy for hackers to obtain with automated software. Instead create a password that is not a real word and uses lower case, capital case, symbols and numbers - this will give you a strong password that’s less likely to be hacked.

#3 Watch Your File Permission - You should keep an eye on your file permissions. You can set your file permissions with FileZilla.

#4 Use SSL Encryption - SSL Encryption is used to encrypt the data your blog sends out. This means that the data cannot be accessed as it leaves your router, which keeps account information secure. It makes the data difficult to intercept and difficult to decrypt. Usually you have to be prepare for SSL encryption but it’s worth the money. However, WordPress SSL encryption costs you nothing - you just need to add define (‘FORCE_SSL_ADMIN’, true) to your wp-config.php

#5 Use .htaccess - You will find the .htaccess file in the default hosting file, which can be used to block certain IPs.

#6 Always Have a Backup - Regardless of how good your security there is always the risk of being hacked, even if it’s minimal, so you need to back up at least once a week. Backup your data daily and store it offsite, so that if you do find yourself hacked you will have a good backup to get back up and running.

Its Easy to Protect Your WorePress Website Against Security Breaches

If you have a WordPress site, it is very important that you take at least the basic steps to ensure you are secure from hackers. This isn’t really ‘news,’ after all this has been known for a long time, yet still many people do not stop and consider website security when they are creating their sites. They don’t do any reading on the topic because it’s too technical and just plain boring, and far too often people think it won’t happen to them. Therefore, they also don’t do anything to protect their blog or site. The good news is that in under 30 minutes you can improve your security and not spend a dime.

#1 Change the ‘Admin’ Username

The default login for WordPress is ‘admin.’ Trouble is most users just keep it that way, making it incredibly easy for hackers to figure out your user name. Now they are already half logged into your site. Change the ‘admin’ login into something new!

#2 Create a Strong Password

Your WordPress is only as strong as your weakest link, and your password is often that weak link. Hackers use software that scrolls through hundreds of thousands of words looking for a match, which is why you should not be using a real word for your password. You should also not use a logical sequence of letters or numbers. So don’t use your pet’s name, your birthday, your phone number, etc. You can use a password generator to help you if you trouble coming up with a strong password.

#3 Delete & Update

WordPress is known for being weak on security. The reality is WordPress is only insecure when the users do not keep it current. Any part of your website that isn’t running the latest version is always at a risk of being hacked. Hackers are constantly looking for vulnerabilities and if you aren’t staying current you are at risk. So make sure you are running the most current version of WordPress, installed plugins and installed themes.

#4 Limit the Login Attempts

Install a plugin that will limit the number of times a person can try to login before the site shuts them down. The Limit Login Attempts plugin is one good choice. When you limit the number of times one can try to access your site, you reduce the likelihood of being hacked.

That’s it - there’s plenty more so don’t stop after you’ve done these four things, but this is a great place to start.

Using a Password Service to Protect Your WordPress Site

It seems all we talk about is creating strong passwords and if you are like most people, you create a password that you thought was solid only to find out it is not. What’s the solution?

Using a password service is a great way to create a strong password and protect your WordPress site.

There are a number of these services - two that come to mind are LastPass and 1 Password. You install the software on your computer and it will create these wild passwords that are up to 50 characters and really just look like gibberish. What’s even better is that it memorizes them for you, because there is no way you could remember these passwords. Then to keep all those passwords secure you use a master password. That way even if your passwords are stolen the hackers are going to need the master password.

A good master password needs to be strong - in fact it’s critical because all your other passwords lay in the balance of this. Follow as many password rules as you can and this one you need to memorize.

You’ll need to memorize your master password and you will also need to memorize any passwords needed to access your computer or if you visit the internet through your television. Apple passwords also often have to be memorized. The passwords you need to memorize shouldn’t be more than a dozen and it will likely be more like 5 or 6.

You will need to be patient as it takes time to transition your entire life online to a password service. You’ll be surprised at just how often you use passwords. Think about it - every time you login somewhere you use a user ID and a password. Getting the system up and functioning completely can be a real challenge, but stick with it, because eventually you will be far more secure and have way less passwords to remember.

Another great Photoshop actions package is Mockups Master. This package doesn’t have quite the range of selections that Cover Action Pro comes with, but the graphics are more up-to-date than those in Black Belt Covers.

Perhaps the best thing about Mockups Master is the price. At this time, the product is available for only $27! If you’re just looking for a basic package that will give you a quality image, Mockups Master might be a great option.

Photoshop Styles

Styles are applied to layers, and they apply decorative effects to those layers. Styles are especially useful for creating interesting text effects, making plain, boring text really pop off the page.

Text without style applied is dull and lifeless. It doesn’t attract attention. You can turn plain text into a stunning logo with the click of a mouse by using the right Photoshop style!

If you’re going to apply styles to your text, be sure to choose a style that complements the image you’re using and it easy to read. Don’t choose overly busy styles or styles that clash with the other colors in your graphic. Using the wrong style is much worse than using no style at all!

Following this text, you will find an example of text on a gradient background. On the first line, no style is applied. On the second line, a garish style that clashes with the background and is difficult to read is applied. In the last line, a clean, simple style that looks good with the background is applied.

As you can see, the last line is easy to read and looks visually appealing. It stands out more than the text with the bad style applied, and it draws the eye much more than the text with no style applied.

You can download free Photoshop styles from hundreds of websites, but you should be aware that many free styles are not very attractive and may make your text difficult to read. Additionally, some styles are made for thinner fonts and others for thicker fonts, so keep that in mind as you use styles.

You can also purchase quality styles from reputable vendors. These purchased styles are often much more useful than free styles, and you can often see examples of the styles used on text before you buy.

One great place for purchasing styles (as well as other add-ons) is Graphic River. This website allows individual product creators to sell their add-ons through a single marketplace.

To find Photoshop styles, simply mouse over “Add-ons” in the top menu, and then click “Photoshop”. In the menu on the right side, click “Styles”. This will bring up a selection of hundreds of styles for purchase. Most packages include multiple styles focused around a similar theme, and packs are remarkably affordable. Packs start at around $2 and go up to around $20 for very large packages.

A great place to find free add-ons, including styles, is at deviantART. There are thousands of free downloads available.

Once at the deviantART website, click "Resources & Stock Images.” Click “Application Resources.” There is no section specifically for Photoshop Styles, so browse through the Photoshop .PSD section and the Photoshop Actions section to find styles, or search for “styles” within the Application Resources section.

Other Add-Ons

There are other types of add-ons available as well. For example, you can buy or download gradients, patterns, shapes, brushes and more. Each of these types of add-ons is useful in its own way. Gradients are useful for backgrounds and stylizing text. Patterns are great for adding texture to elements. Shapes are great for calling attention and crating dynamic images, as are brushes.

You can download thousands of various add-ons through Graphic River and deviantART, and there are thousands of web pages that make these elements available free. But check the terms for use and make sure they are for commercial use.

Virtual Product Design Packages

If you cannot afford Photoshop, or if you use the trial and find you don’t like it, there are other alternatives available for creating virtual product designs.

Box Shot 3D (Windows and Mac)

Box Shot 3D is a software package that is available for both Windows and Mac computers. This software allows anyone to create many different types of virtual product packaging graphics without Photoshop, because it is a standalone program. It is not a Photoshop action script as so many other virtual product design programs are.

Box Shot 3D is a 3D rendering program that allows you to take one of their premade shapes, add your own graphics to the shape, and render the shape from any angle you use. You can even customize the lighting to create exactly the look and feel you desire for your image.

Chapter Four: Locating Theme Designers

As mentioned in the previous chapter, you may need more than one person to complete your theme. The first person you will need will be the Photoshop designer. This person will create the basic design of your theme. They may be able to cut the theme up for you as well, but some designers aren’t proficient at this, which means you may need to hire a second person to cut up the PSD design provided by your designer and turn it into your completed theme.

The service starts at just $99, so it is very affordable. If you want added features and functionality you should expect to pay considerably more, but a theme that is complete with bells and whistles such as an image slider or built-in email collection box will sell much better and be much more profitable in the long run.

Quality Assurance

Before you hire any designer, ask to see examples of WordPress designs or themes they have created in the past. Find out what level of programming ability they have, and whether or not they will be able to add the features you need. This is the first step in assuring your theme is of the highest possible quality.

Don’t forget that the theme must be fully tested before you begin selling it. If possible, find some beta testers who are willing to help you test the theme

thoroughly before you put it on the market. If there are any bugs found after the theme is released for sale, make sure you respond and get it updated quickly. Otherwise your reputation will be harmed before it’s even built.

User Customization

One important feature you will probably want to have your theme creator include is the ability for users to customize the theme on their own from within the WordPress admin area.

There are many different levels of theme customization. It can range from simple tweaks such as selecting where the sidebars are located, up to something much more complex such as changing the background image and even changing the entire layout for different pages of the site.

Chapter Five: Creating a Design

You must work very closely with your designer to build a theme you’ll be happy with and that will sell well to users in the niche you’ve chosen. You will want to find a designer who is willing to make multiple changes when you aren’t happy with certain elements of the theme.

In order to minimize changes (which will make your designer very happy) start out by giving the designer very clear instructions, along with a few examples of themes you really like. This will help the designer understand your personal taste and style so they’ll be more likely to create something you like.

Don’t forget to let the designer know about any special functionality you will be having built into the theme. Some of these functions may require additional graphics, so the designer will need to know in advance what types of extra graphics you’ll need.

The design you receive will most likely be in PSD format for Photoshop. This file is not ready for use as a WordPress theme. It is only the base graphic file. If you happen to find a designer who can also do complete WordPress themes, you may get the entire theme delivered immediately. However, most designers will simply deliver the PSD file and you will have to go to someone else to have the design chopped and packaged.

In the next chapter, you’ll learn more about that process.

Chapter Six: Packaging & Testing

After the basic layout is completed, it’s time to package the theme. This process involves cutting the PSD file up and formatting it into the actual theme. Then any additional features are added.

Pricing is based on the complexity of the finished theme. If you want a simple, basic theme from your PSD, the service starts at just $99. If you add more complex features, the cost will be higher, but you’ll find you get many more sales than you would without these extra features.

Testing

One the theme is completed; it’s time to test it. You can test the theme yourself, but you may also want to have it tested by several other people, too. Beta testing the theme on your own may fail to reveal critical bugs in the theme that could lead to a wave of customer complaints and bad feedback. That definitely isn’t something you want to happen when you're trying to establish a name for yourself.

You’ll notice when you visit sites like ThemeForest.net that buyers can leave a rating and review for their purchases. The higher the star rating for your theme, the more purchase you are likely to get.

Not only that, but if potential buyers see a theme they like but doesn’t quite fit what they are looking for, if the theme has a great rating they are likely to take a look at the other themes you have for sale. This could increase your sales dramatically!

If you don’t have friends who could help you test your theme, you can post a message on a webmaster forum and ask for beta testers. Let them know they can keep and use the theme for free in exchange for their help, just be sure to tell them not to distribute the theme to anyone else.

Section 3 - Best Practices

Membership sites can be challenging if you've never used them before. In this section, you'll learn "best practices" experienced membership site owners have developed over time.

Build a Relationship

You also need to decide how you will communicate with your members. How will you send them e-mail updates and information? You can add their e-mail addresses automatically when they sign up. This becomes your email list to send updates and information.

How often will you send updates? Every week? Every day? Think of it this way: what you are trying to do is build a healthy relationship with your members.

The rules of communication you use to maintain good relationships "in the real world" apply just as well online.

Remember that you may not be a known entity to them when they first come to your site. Try to encourage them right away in terms of getting involved in your site. For example, you may want to consider giving away your contact information. Or call them on the phone with a warm welcome. It helps them feel part of the group.

After you've nurtured relationships with members, you can begin to ask them questions about they want out of the site. Maybe no one has asked them before what their expectations or needs are. They might have requests you can address. However, you can only help them if you know what their needs are. It gives you the opportunity to create content and products that will help them.

Retaining Members

One of your biggest challenges will be to get them to stay on as repeat members. It's true that some may invest in the site at first and then never use it for a long time. Still, be sure you keep adding content and value to the site no matter if some members are using it or not.

The reason is they will eventually stop back in to see what the site has offered lately. If you slack in adding value or content, they will tend to leave if they feel they're being neglected. You want to create content and value that exceeds expectations. You want them to say, "Wow, this is fantastic content! I'm glad I joined and I don't even think about paying my monthly fee."

Consider having content that is exclusive to your membership site they cannot get anywhere else. This might be in the form of interviews you conduct with industry leaders, private training on topics and subjects that are new or cutting-edge, and more. You might also provide a level of advice or support from you or your team that is not available to nonmembers.

Whatever you do, the perceived value has to be considerably more than the investment they make. Don't let yourself off the hook. Continue to challenge your team and yourself to add massive value and top quality content to the site.

Levels of Membership

A very common error that new membership site owners make is they offer a series of membership levels. For example, they might have Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Members might start at the Bronze level, while Silver offers more value, and Gold level provides complete access.

The problem with this approach in the beginning is it lowers conversions. People get intimidated and confused by many options. It's much simpler to get someone to say "Yes!" to join your site if you only offer just one choice: either they join or they don't.

You'll gain more confidence in your operation and development if you see a steady stream of new members joining your site. It's even a good idea to let new members stay on as long as they want at their initial rate, even if you increase the rate later for new members. You may think that you will lose money, but it will increase loyalty and the "lifetime customer value" of each member. In addition, they will spend additional money on specials and premiums you offer.

Affiliates

One way to drive considerable traffic to your site is to utilize affiliates. Affiliates are marketers that promote your site to their own "tribe" of fans and followers.

For example, let's say an affiliate is running banner ads for your membership site on their site. If a prospect clicks the ad, visits your site, and signs up as a member, the affiliate gets a commission for the sale. It's not unusual to have commissions as high as 50%, 75% and even 100% of the sale.

Why would you give an affiliate 100% commission? Consider that the "Lifetime Customer Value" of each new member is much higher than the initial commission payout. Lifetime Customer Value is the average total amount of spending you can expect from a typical member.

For example, if you charge $50 a month for your membership site and the average length of time someone stays a member is six months, the Lifetime Customer Value of a member is $300. Of course, some will stay much longer and others will leave sooner. Lifetime Customer Value is an average.

Now you know that an average customer will spend $300 in your membership site. From here, it is easy to determine how much you want to spend to acquire that customer. Even after paying 100% commission rate, you are making a good profit. Don't feel like you are locked in, because you can still customize the structure for an individual affiliate.

Closely monitor the margins in your affiliate commission structure. Affiliate sales will give you plenty of traffic and help build sales. Many of the membership site plugins have modules that can manage your affiliate sales and tracking.

Another idea is that you can run a separate affiliate sales model outside your membership site using third-party software and service. You might have several different affiliate structures going on at the same time. There is no single way to do it, and the right balance for you will come from testing and experimentation.

Consider giving "lifetime commissions" where an affiliate receives commission from all sales from their referral for the length of time the referral stays on as a member. It becomes a little challenging to track it--there are cookie-based tracking methods and other ways. If you get into heavy affiliate marketing, it may benefit you to consult with, or hire, an affiliate manager to advise the right setup for maximize profit.

Survey Guru Personal Use Ebook

Ebook Sample Content Preview:

Prospect - Someone who doesn’t know your product and probably doesn’t know who you are comes to your sales page.

Lead - That prospect enters their email address into your opt-in box to receive a free report as advertised in a popup on your sales page. That person then becomes a lead.

Buyer - The prospect reads your free report and likes the content, and then returns to the sales page to finish reading it, finally buying the product.

OTO Buyer - The buyer reads your One Time Offer (OTO) and decides to purchase this offer as well.

If you notice a lot of people making it to one particular stages but making it no further, you might want to send your leads a survey asking them why they aren’t making it past that stage. You could also make this a popup on your website for people who leave your page without buying.

Customer Satisfaction Improvement

Finally, you can use surveys to improve your customer satisfaction, making people buy more products from you, trust you, and become loyal (potentially even avid) fans, who might even tell others about you.

As you probably know, customer service is one of the most important aspects of business. If you keep buyers happy, you minimize problems.

And if you respond quickly to the few problems you do have, you’ll ensure your customers always stay happy.

Surveys are a great way to ensure customer satisfaction. You can use surveys to improve satisfaction in the following ways:

Ask how their experience was after using your help desk or customer service email or phone number.

Ask them how they are enjoying the product after they buy, and if they have any questions or concerns.

Ask them what you can do better in general sense.

Tips for Creating Great Surveys

Surveys are only useful if people are willing to take them, and unfortunately, most online surveys are not conducive to getting people to complete them. People don’t have a lot of time to waste, and they certainly aren’t going to spend several minutes taking a survey just to help your business.

Here are some ways you can

1. Keep Surveys Short - One of the biggest mistakes people make with surveys is trying to find out too much at once. People have lives. They are busy. They don’t have a lot of time to help you, even if they really want to. So when you create a survey, make it short and easy to take. Ask no more than five or six questions, and make as many of those questions as possible multiple choice in order to make taking the survey go as quickly as possible.

2. Ask On-Point Questions - Never go off on a tangent and start asking questions that are unrelated to your main topic. Stick to asking specific questions that related to your primary objective. If you have multiple objectives, use different surveys.

3. Don’t Use Leading Questions - Never ask questions that try to lead a survey taker to answer in a specific way in order to try to trick them into feeling a certain way about your company. For example, do not say, “As you know, the Mega Sales System is the top of its class for helping you generate more sales. How do you feel this product best meets your needs?” Instead, just ask, “What did you like most about this product?”

4. Use Multiple Choice - Don’t make people work too much. Keep most questions multiple choice, and keep potential answers to six or fewer. The harder it is to take a survey, the fewer people will fill it out.

5. Don’t Get Personal - Ask as little personal information from respondents as possible. If you don’t need their phone number, don’t ask for it. Again, the more personal information you ask for, the fewer people will fill out your survey.

6. Ensure Privacy - Let people know you won’t share any of their personal information, and that survey data will be kept anonymous. This will make people feel like they won’t be spammed and that they won’t have to be embarrassed to answer how they really feel.
