The real problem is that most clients know little about the web design process and mistakenly believe that their web designer has optimized their site for the search engines. As many web designers forget to discuss the topic with their clients, the site is put live without being optimized.

Create a Sales Page

With the Twenty Ten theme, the home page of your website automatically integrates your latest blog post. So I am going to use this Wordpress site to create a single blog post which will always sit on the home page. The post is going to be my sales letter.

The PLR product I am using here comes with a pre-written sales letter so I just took the sample blog post called “Hello World” and changed it to Welcome to The 365 Goal System.

I inserted an image of the product at the top of the post (this image was included in the PLR package) and then I pasted the sales letter from the PLR package as well.

Requirements

Before updating, make sure your web host provides WordPress's minimum requirements2. These requirements are nothing spectacular, and chances are, if you've successfully installed WordPress, your host already provides what's needed.

Backups

Back up your blog before proceeding. I describe how to securely back up your blog later on in the book, so if you like, you can jump to it now, or read through this section first before proceeding. In any case, never update your blog without backing it up beforehand. You'll find out why soon.

Disabling Plug-ins

After updating to a major version, some plug-ins may not work. Therefore, it is wise to not only back up your blog and all of its accompanying plug-ins (in case you have to restore it to its original state), it's important to disable plug-ins before you upgrade as well. If you don't, you may encounter compatibility issues and errors after updating your copy of WordPress.

Once your blog is updated, you can reactivate your plugins later. Only in cases of severe incompatibility and resulting errors will you need to disable a plugin (and keep it disabled) until its developer releases a version that's compatible with the latest WordPress upgrade.

I know for a fact if I've ever viewed an article on Ezinearticles.com the page was pretty much blasted with adsense blocks.

Not only did that take away from the effectiveness of the article but gave the reader so many choices to click on any link other than that in the resource box. I've heard rumours about how much Ezinearticles.com made monthly with Adsense and if it's true it's a staggering figure.

Step #1: Keyword Research

If you intend to be successful in Internet Marketing, and I know you do, then I suggest you fall in love with Keyword Research. Why?.. Because in order to bring targeted visitors to your site (and make sales) you need to be found.

Sure, you could bring visitors to your site through Pay-Per-Click advertising (and I plan to cover how to do this effectively in an up-coming book) but it shouldn’t be your only traffic source. The vast majority of websites are found through the search engines. Web searchers enter their search terms (i.e. keywords) into the search engine and click the [Search] button. The search engines return web pages they believe to be relevant. Relevant to what? The Keyword that was entered!

In my opinion, you have to enjoy Keyword Research to get really good at it. I liken it to an Easter egg hunt. You have to search and dig around a bit before you find the prize. If you treat it like a game, you’ll do it more often and get better at it!

I’m going to show several ways to come up with keyword ideas. Some are free, some require a modest, one-time fee and others require an ongoing monthly membership. All are valid, but since you’ll be doing keyword research for the rest of your Internet Marketing “career,” I suggest you look into an efficient tool as the time-savings can be tremendous.
