Article marketing is a very popular method for getting traffic. In many markets, it’s one of the best ways for bringing in large quantities of targeted visitors for free.

Most people have no idea how to use article marketing effectively. They write two or three articles, and then they give up; claiming article marketing isn’t effective because they got no traffic from it.

You should never tackle a list of keywords without first analyzing traffic and competition. It’s a waste of time and resources to focus on keywords that are too competitive or don’t get enough searches.

When you get your list of keywords from the Google keyword tool, it will tell you approximately how many searches each phrase receives each month. I don’t generally use keywords that have less than 1,000 searches per month, because they don’t usually bring enough traffic to justify the effort.

Next, you have to assess the competition. You want to make sure to target phrases you have a good chance to rank for, otherwise you’re wasting your time, because you probably won’t be able to rank on the first page if there is too much competition.

There are two steps to assessing competition. First, you need to find out how many people are using each keyword phrase on their pages. You do this by entering the keyword into Google in quotes. This will tell you how many other pages contain that exact phrase.

As you can see in the image above, the phrase “keyword in quotes” is used on about 6,090 other pages. This means you should have a fairly easy time ranking on the first page for that phrase.

Next, you need to see how strong those other competitors are. Google and other search engines usually give a tremendous amount of weight to the words appearing in the title of the HTML document, so you need to see how many of those pages are also using the phrase in their title.

As I mentioned in the previous section, you must analyze a few different factors to determine how solid a particular product is likely to be. You want to promote products that will convert well, and will make you enough money to be worth the effort.

For example, a 99 cent item might convert fantastically well, but at such a low price, you would have to sell massive quantities of the item in order to make decent money.

Of course, the reserve can also be true. If you have a product that sells for $2,000, it might convert so poorly you sell only one or two per year. Again, this might not be profitable.

You will probably need to test various products in order to find those that offer the best conversions and earnings, but you can get a general idea of whether a product will be good to promote by making sure you can earn at least $10 to $20 per sale, and that the sales page looks like it has the potential to convert well.

With niche?based websites, you simply select 10?20 products all based around a specific niche market. For example, weight loss or parenting.

You then construct an article-powered niche website that features 10 different articles, and at the bottom of every article, you feature a direct link to the merchants website.

Niche based websites are very easy to set up, but just keep in mind that each website needs a specific theme. You want to segment your affiliate campaigns so that every website is focused around one specific market (or niche), so that you can funnel targeted traffic to your websites without convoluting the process.

Think about your websites structure from your visitors’ perspective. If you were interested in finding out more information about the golf market, and you landed on a content website that had multiple categories where golf wasn't the main focus, not only would you likely exit the site but you wouldn't think it was an authority site.

Authority sites ALWAYS focus on one specific market segment, so that they can deliver quality and informative content that warms up visitors and maximizes profits.

When creating your content site, hire a writer to create 10-15 keyword rich articles around different areas within that market.
