Backing Up Is For Sissies

That’s a funny slogan from the latter days of the “insider” era of computing, an in-joke among computer geeks who were trying to assert that being a computer geek doesn’t mean you can’t be tough.

Being a computer geek — excuse us, Internet entrepreneur — does mean that you shouldn't be stupid however, and not backing up is just plain dumb, especially these days when the tools and technologies to do it are so easy and so cheap.

Hardware and software options

The world of backing up is primarily about storage, and the storage marketplace is moving so quickly it would be a waste of both of our time for us to list out X equipment at Y price.

As a simple example, there is a pocket hard-drive called the Giga Bank. About a year ago, a 2.2 GB Giga Bank — at the time a wonder of miniaturization — cost about $150. Today a 4 GB Giga Bank is around $89. By the time you read this, they’ll have the next one out.

It’s probably more useful to talk about general ways and means of backing up (or if you prefer, replicating or archiving data). Archiving is not the same as backing up, but you may find doing some of both useful.

We’ll discuss a couple of general concepts about having multiple sets of data, and a little about the hardware and software options for creating and accessing them.

Backing up versus archiving

Backing up means keeping copies of stuff you currently need or use in a second or third place, so if the one you have on hand gets destroyed, you have another one. You want backups pretty easily accessible at all times.

Archiving on the other hand usually means removing data files from a high-traffic place (like your C drive) and putting it somewhere in storage, in case you ever need to look at it again, which you may well not but you want to have the stuff safely stored in case.

Accordingly, backing up is something you do routinely — probably weekly or more, or even several times a day if you have high-volume transaction heavy businesses. Whereas archiving you only do once in a while, like you might do each year, if you do projects on an annual basis. You might not need your 2004 projects on your desktop in 2007, but you might need them tucked away someplace.

By building “Cool Little Websites”, you can use the methods and technology from the section above to collect commissions from a pay per click sponsor like AdSense, the Ebay Affiliate Program and the Amazon Affiliate Program all on one site.

If you've completed the AdSense Niche Site section above, things should start getting easier because we will be utilizing the same code as above only applying it a little differently to get contextual links from Ebay and Amazon.

For that reason, we won't spend a lot of time on the actual index and template setup and will focus mainly on the differences and how to use the php echo code to pull in relevant ebay auctions and amazon ads.

You will start exactly the same way as with the Adsense Niche Sites above. Decide which niche you are going after and use your keyword tool to get your targeted keywords to keep your “Cool Little Site” niche focused and build your menu links.

The days of super-hype marketing tactics are over. They used to work well in the past but they are working less and less everyday.

People are naturally more skeptical now. They don’t respond as well to hype. Yes, some people will still buy after they read some heavy hype copy but it’s becoming fewer and fewer consumers everyday.

The future of marketing is using education and/or entertainment. Advertorial style copy on the Web does a lot better than over-the-top copy – and the difference in success rates is continuing to grow.

If you are selling something from a web page think about different ways that you can incorporate an educational story or “sidebar” of factual information that will actually deliver some value to your reader even if they don’t buy your product.

The legendary copywriter, Eugene Schwartz, used to market books by giving some of the best parts of the actual book away in the marketing itself. And it helped them sell like crazy.

When you really think about it the psychology of this method is pretty obvious… the prospect is thinking, “if this free stuff is this good I can only imagine how good the actual product is.”

So you need to try to educate your prospects throughout your marketing process. This is the reason why you want to give away as much great content as you can. If they enjoy your free stuff they will be many times more likely to buy the stuff you sell. And this is a proven fact.

People are also more bored than ever before. We are constantly bombarded with advertising and marketing. It’s a real challenge to make your marketing standout. One of the ways to do this is to make your marketing entertaining. Anything you can do to make your marketing a little bit more interesting and exciting the better it should produce for you because it will increase viewership which typically increases response.

Information products are in digital format and can be downloaded to peoples' computers so there is no shipping and handling involved. These are electronic products. You can create cd’s and dvd’s also and these will require handling and shipping. But they are very popular also.

One electronic product (ebook or report) can be sold over and over again an unlimited number of times. It is a completely renewable resource. It costs you nothing to create and can bring you an unlimited number of dollars. It all depends on how dedicated you are to marketing and selling it.

Let's say you have written a couple of short articles -- 500 to 700 words. This is usually 1 to1-1/2 pages on your word processor. You have made short paragraphs -- 1 to 4 sentences. Notice that is what I am doing here. It is much easier for people to read and digest short paragraphs rather than lengthy rambling ones.

The articles you have written must NOT be sales pitches. They must be informational. They must tell people about the product in terms of what it will do for them.

You may ask, “Why all those ‘musts’?” Because people are offended if they buy a product and it turns out to be a sales pitch. Their impression of you will immediately be one of disgust. You promised them good and valuable information and they have the right to be angry.

However, if you do deliver them good, solid information they will hold you in esteem. You can and should give them some reference to a few valuable resources that will truly benefit them. But those should be in keeping with the theme of the product they have purchased. It should also be presented in context with the portion of your article or book where it has direct relationship to the particular information being expressed.

For example, suppose there is a chapter in the book about driving traffic to your product. You may place an offer in that discussion for a search engine submitter or some other traffic-generating product.

But, It should never be an in-your-face proposition. Here is another example. This report is about PLR. I sell PLR among many other products. So I have a sales page at one of my websites where I offer PLR for sale. When I write articles about PLR, I will include a link to that sales page at the end of the article and invite the reader to click on it so he/she can view my particular product.

If you start a new site from scratch and optimize it starting from onpage optimization up to offpage optimization it will take at least two months to see results.

Obviously there are some exceptions and the reasons are very difficult to identify sometimes. However such factors like the number of competition for your keywords and the type and quantity of links you get all effect how fast you get rankings.

Keep in mind that if you do get a ton of links fast and you get high rankings you need to keep getting a ton of links fast or you loose rankings. That is not very realistic. Getting links; which are the core of optimization slowly and steadily will allow your site to rank and keep its rankings if you keep getting links slowly and steadily even after your site is ranked on top.

If you can hire someone that will give you 1000 links every week you will probably rank faster than the rest. But then you need to keep getting 1000 every week to remain on top. (That’s why I said it is not realistic)

If you stop getting links, your rankings won't remain always on top. However does not mean you have to keep doing all the work. You may outsource and another advantage is that with your site ranked on top many webmasters will automatically contact you for a link exchange. But you need more links to get rankings than to maintain your site at top.

70 Build a larger online community by giving your visitors bonuses for participating on your message boards or chat rooms. Try free products, ads, etc. For example, you could say, "Participate in our online message board and get the FREE report! How To..." Another example, "Get this free e-book for just chatting in our chat room!"

71 Instead of starting an affiliate program, start a referral program. Give people discounts and free products for referring people to your site. For example, you could say, "Get a free e-book software for referring just 3 people to our web site." Another example, "Refer just 2 people to our web site to get a 20% discount on our new e-book!"

72 Offer free original content. It's important to give your visitors information they can't find anywhere else. If you're the only source, they'll visit your site. For example, if you write business e-books you know they are many of them out there, but if you added an unrelated topic with the business content, like science, it would be more original.

73 Give people free software. Most people like to find good deals on software for their computers. If the software is free, that is even better. For example, you could say, "FREE Accounting Software!" You could also use the software for viral marketing. Just place your ad in the software and allow people to give it away.

74 Hold free contests or sweepstakes. Most people like to win things. If you can fulfill that need, people will stop by to visit. You can also capture people’s e-mail addresses. For example, "Sign up for our contest for a chance to win a new computer! You will be notified via e-mail."

75 Provide a free web directory. Create a directory of web sites on a popular topic that will attract your target audience. For example, if you had a free e-book directory you could advertise your web site by saying something like "Get 1000 FREE E-books When You Visit (your web site address)."

76 Offer a free e-zine. Most people love to get free information that’s e-mailed to them regularly. This saves them time and money. For example, you could say, "Sign up to my e-zine and learn about (topic) every week for absolutely free!" Another example, "Free Weekly Business E-zine - Save time and money learning (topic)!"

77 Make your web site look professional. You want to have your own domain name, easy navigation, attractive graphics, etc. For example, wouldn’t it make you think twice about buying from a free domain name web site? Another example, if you get confused or lost at a web site, don’t you immediately click out of it?

78 Let people read your ad before they get to your freebie. When you use free things to lure people to your web site, list them below your ad copy. For example, haven't you ever downloaded a free e-book and read it right away without looking at the rest of the web site?

79 Attract the target audience who would buy your product or service. A simple way to do this is to survey your existing customers. Another idea would be to address them with their group name. For example, "Dear Web Marketers..." , "Attention All Gardeners - Listen Up!", etc.

80 Test and improve your ad copy. There are many people who write an ad and never change it. Make sure you get the highest possible response rate. For example, run the ad you have ready and see how many orders you get in a week or month. After that change the headline or closing and see how many orders you receive. Continue tweaking your ad till you get the highest amount of orders per visitors or viewers.

81 Give people an urgency so they buy ‘now’. Many people could be interested in your product but they’ll put off buying it until later and eventually forget about it. For example, "Order Before Aug 15, 2002, and get 2 Bonuses Valued at ($)!" Another example, "Order Now! Only 1000 Members Will Be Accepted."

82 When you ship people the first product they bought, insert a flyer or brochure for your back-end product in the package. For example, if you're selling a book about gardening, you could slip in a flyer about a packet of seeds you're currently selling into the box you are shipping.

83 Give customers a free subscription to a Customers Only e-zine when they buy your product. You could include your ad for your back-end product in each issue. For example, you could say, “When you order, you will get a free subscription to our e-zine about e-books.” The customers will also see your ads every week and that will increase their tendency to buy again from you. Plus a free e-zine is a good bonus to lure them to order.

84 Send your customers greeting cards on holidays or on their birthday. Include a small advertisement inside the card for your back-end product. For example, the card could say "Happy Halloween! To celebrate this holiday we are offering you 30% off our new book titled..." Another example, "Happy Birthday! For a gift we are giving a free sample of our new book titled... If you like it, you can get the full version for only ($)."

85 Tell your prospects that your product is easy to use. People don't want to buy a product that they have to read a 100 page instruction manual. For example, "Our software is user-friendly, it takes you step-by-step." Another example, "You'll get a simple 3 step instruction manual that walks you through the whole scanner set-up."

86 Send customers a free surprise gift after they order your first product. You could attach another ad with the free gift for your back-end product. For example, "Unadvertised Surprise Bonus! A free copywriting e-book!" Then inside the e-book have subtle ads for the product(s) you're selling. Above or below each page. You could also mention them within your content.

87 If you're selling an electronic product, like an e-book or report, include your ad for your back-end product somewhere inside the electronic product. For example, on the last page, title page, index, table of contents, glossary, etc. If you liked the product, wouldn't you buy again from that company?

88 Tell your prospects how long you've been in business for. People think if you've been in business for a while, you have more credibility. For example, "We've been in business for (no.) years!" Another example, "We've been serving businesses since 1935!"

Chapter 3 : Panic Attack Is No Different From These Scenarios!

Have you been able to spot the similarities of the 5 different scenarios shown in chapter 2?

Not that tough, isn’t it?

But, do you know that panic attack itself have the exact similarities too?

But, wait, if it is the same, then why the heck panic attack is not happening during these different scenarios?

Let’s use one of the scenarios and do some analysis on it, and you will see why.

1. The Scenario

In the scenario, there is actually not much to be said or to be analyzed, as this is just an introduction to the two different scenarios that is happening to Sam, our main character here.

2. The Trigger

At this stage, the trigger of the whole event takes place.

In the panic attack case, Sam noticed about the possibility of not be able to get the tickets for his friends. Sam starts to feel the heat, results in stress & anxiety.

In the “Susan’s encounter” case, Sam noticed about Susan, and her smile. Sam got overwhelmed. Sam starts to feel lightheaded, as a result in excitement.

3. The Mind & The Body

This is where the initial body responses occurred, a direct result from what happened after the trigger.

Both panic attack & “Susan’s encounter” scenarios have the SAME PHYSICAL EFFECTS to Sam.

The body responded in the same way, where heart beat increased, starts to sweat, and slightly short of breath.

4. The FOCUS

This is the MOST IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE occur during the whole event. During this stage, the focus is the most critical element of all.

In the panic attack case, Sam starts to notice about the changes in his body, and he start to worry about his body reaction. He is now totally focusing on his body reaction.

However, in “Susan’s encounter” case, Sam is still very much focusing on Susan. He is still thinking about what to say, what to do. He didn’t even notice about what happen to his body.

5. Body Reaction Amplified

Regardless of what is going on to the mind, the body reactions actually are amplified. In both case, Sam will start to feel dizzy, heart pounding even faster, and his body shaking.

But, in panic attack case, because of Sam’s focus is all on his body, the anxiety level is heightened and this become an inner worsening cycle. Heightened Anxiety Greater Body Responses Even Higher Anxiety Worsen Body Responses …

6. After The Event

20 minutes later, all the abnormal body responses ended.

Again, the focus of the mind is critical in this case.

In “Susan’s encounter” case, Sam is still thinking about Susan, and he will live his life as he normally does.

But, in the panic attack case, some people will still think about the event over and over again. These people develop the fear of the event. They become anxious about when this will happen again.

The continuous fear and anxiety might eventually lead to panic disorder, something you & I do not want to see.

Have you noticed that good marketing ideas are often ruined by the greedy?

Reciprocal linking, traffic exchanges and search engines are all great ideas that have been damaged in some way by people trying to manipulate them to get more than their fair share of traffic.

The latest example is article writing.

It began with the idea of writing articles within your field of expertise and inviting others to place it on their website, or in their ezine.

You get a link back because your website is the bio. Then came the article directories.

List your article and even more people will find it, add it to their website and give you another link back to your website.

Now there is software that will write articles for you. Bang in some keywords and, hey presto, another article.

And then, of course, there are the articles about how to write articles. These will lead you to believe that anyone can write hundreds of articles and get hundreds of visitors to their website in return.

Apparently, you don’t even need to know how to write good. That’s watt a spell-checker’s their fore, rite?

You see people are copying articles to their website because they believe it will get them good search engine rankings, not because they think the articles are any good.

They’re putting it in their newsletters because they don’t have the skill or the time to write their own.

Besides Part I – Coming up with your WHY, this has to be the step that absolutely PETRIFIES people. The fear. The anxiety. What if I fail? What would my (mom, spouse, neighbors, co-workers) think of me then?

The answer is simple and if you apply this technique, you may very well be home free. The reason people fail to take action is almost always the same: they have NO STORED SUCCESS PATTERNS

When you were a kid, and you didn’t know how to ride a bike, the lack of any stored success meant getting up on that bike and riding off on it was a very scary proposition. “I’m going to fall” or “I’m going to look stupid” or “I’m going to hurt myself” – your mind raced with the possibilities and consequences of your failure.

But what happens after you’ve successfully managed a few hundred miles on the bike? How hard is it to get up on it then? Do you think about it anymore? It’s automatic, right? It’s ROTE – it’s almost like the bike operates independently of your brain.

Success in business is like that. Success in Internet Marketing, too. There is NO WAY TO SUCCEED WITHOUT FALLING OFF THE DAMN BIKE A FEW TIMES! So get over it, already. Get used to it. You are going to fail! So what? Out of failure, you build success. Out of failure, you learn what NOT TO DO. Embrace it! Study why it didn’t go so well. Make adjustments. You’ll do better next time. But if you never fail, you’ll never EVER win.

It is often remarked that “When all is said and done, more is said, than done” The marketing giants who dominate their respective niche markets are those who DO things. They are relentless. They never quit. YEARS after their peers quit, they are still gathering more skills, acquiring assets, experimenting with new ways of doing things. Be one of the Do-ers, and NOT somebody that just talks about it.
