So your CV was stunning and your cover letter caught the attention of the hiring manager. Your application has been moved to the top of the pile of applicants and you have been short-listed for an interview – congratulations! You are now well on your way to getting the job.

You have received a letter (or email) confirming that the interview has been set up.

Hold On! Just because you have got an interview, it doesn't mean that your work is over. This is the time when you will need to put in that extra effort to keep your name above the other job candidates.

Hiring managers place their decision to employ people almost entirely on the interview. This is the make or break part of the process to get the job.

If you start a new site from scratch and optimize it starting from onpage optimization up to offpage optimization it will take at least two months to see results.

Obviously there are some exceptions and the reasons are very difficult to identify sometimes. However such factors like the number of competition for your keywords and the type and quantity of links you get all effect how fast you get rankings.

Keep in mind that if you do get a ton of links fast and you get high rankings you need to keep getting a ton of links fast or you loose rankings. That is not very realistic. Getting links; which are the core of optimization slowly and steadily will allow your site to rank and keep its rankings if you keep getting links slowly and steadily even after your site is ranked on top.

So the idea is NOT to get tons of links FAST, but getting links regularly.

If you can hire someone that will give you 1000 links every week you will probably rank faster than the rest. But then you need to keep getting 1000 every week to remain on top. (That’s why I said it is not realistic)

If you stop getting links, your rankings may not remain always on top, depends again on competition - what they're doing. (I'be been ranked number one for a keyword for 3 years with rarely getting any backlinks - like once every 3-6 months get something so)

However does not mean you have to keep doing all the work. You may outsource and another advantage is that with your site ranked on top many webmasters will automatically contact you for a link exchange. But you need more links to get rankings than to maintain your site at top.

Older sites are more appreciated by search engines, so as your site gets old you have an advantage as well. The initial steps to get rankings can be classified as a bit tough but the rest becomes much easier. PPC offers the fastest way to drive targeted traffic to your websites. You can go to Google Adwords and register an account for as low as $5. Go for Standard Edition. Forget about Starter Edition which is too rudimentary. An ad campaign does not take more than 10 minutes to set up and traffic can start streaming in as fast as within the next 15 minutes. But PPC advertising can be really expensive!

Google Adwords arguably still offers the best quality traffic. But you really need to apply some secret techniques to optimize your budget.

Target long tail keywords. Read Chapter 4. Long tail keywords are targeted and have fewer bidders. Hence, the clicks are much cheaper. Use either NicheBot or Keyword Elite to find a whole list of such keywords quickly.

If you are using Google Search and Search Network only, ie disable Content Network, it works well for long tail keywords but not for competitive terms. Using search only will also boost your CTR and bring down the PPC cost.

If you are using Google Search and Search Network only, always bid for the 4 – 6 position for each keyword. This ensures your ad appears on upper Page 1.

Bid 1 cent above your competitor. To find out how much you need to bid for each ad position, use Google’s keyword tool or Keyword Elite.

Content search has its place as well. Experiment with targeted long tail keywords and go for the lowest bids ie 5 cents and bid upwards. Then tweak your ads until you hit a high CTR. This is tedious but ensures that you get the most out of your advertising budget.

Go for cheaper but smaller PPC networks like Miva and GoClick. I have had some considerable success using GoClick.

Now that you know WHY you want what you want, the next thing you have to do is decide how you’re going to actually go about getting what it is you seek.

What are you willing to sacrifice in the quest to get those “warm fuzzies”?

What can you do without in order to start up your own business or make the necessary changes you need to make?

How can you make your family life happier and more peaceful? What could you use to replace a bad habit you want to change?

Sit back and close your eyes, imagining what it will be like to have what you really want in life, and think long and hard about what you can give up so that you can get where you want to go.

We all have to make sacrifices somewhere, and where many have experienced much success in the past, may find themselves facing challenges they never thought they would have to face.

Say you want or need a new car, but the only way you can afford one is if you quit smoking or trim your morning latte. Envision the car, with you and your partner driving leisurely along a tree lined country road on a spring day.

What color is the car? Is it a two-door or four-door? Is it a small red convertible sports car, a large shiny black sedan, or a decked out van that holds the whole family?

Focus on the car or what ever need or desire you have, then want it badly enough, that you WILL stop smoking (or give up anything else you choose) so you can have it!

These are all small things and perfectly attainable with a little bit of focus, but what if you want even bigger and better things than that?
