STEP FIVE: Create Actionable Goals!

The best definition I have ever heard concerning goals is that they are merely dreams WITH an actionable plan. If you make plans that will move you closer to realizing your dreams, you’ve just created some goals. Here are some goal-setting tips…

Write them down! Nearly every goal-setting guru agrees… written goals are much better than the ones stuck in your head.

Make them exciting, yet attainable. If you’re only making $500 per month online right now, don’t set a goal to make a million per year within the next six months. Instead, look to set goals that will help you achieve 2-5X what you are doing now in the course of the next twelve months. (Example… If you are making $1,000 per month right now, set a goal that will have you making $2,000-$5,000 per month within the next twelve months)

Once you’ve written your goals down, re-order them in a manner that makes sense AND add specific dates to them. So, if your first item of business is to create a product, set a date for the completion of the product and work to complete the project in the time listed.

Share your goals with those closest to you. This one might be a bit scary, especially if your loved ones are negative thinkers and prone to making fun of your “outlandish” goals, but it is important none the less. As soon as you share them with someone else, you know you’re responsible to take action. Until you share them, you give yourself an “out” because after all, no one else knows about them.

Tip Number Eleven: Choose the right "front-end" service when approaching "cold" prospects

Now, if you only specialize in offering one type of service to local business owners this tip might be hard to pull off, but if you offer more than one service, you need to listen up!

Sometimes, we're our own "worst enemies." We decide which service to use as our "front-end service" based on what WE THINK will sell best. However, if you're not testing different offerings, you may be missing out on a whole lot of sales.

It's really best to let your prospects decide which service they'd like to be sold. Doing this will help to improve your conversions and your self-confidence at the same time.

It's impossible for me to tell you which of your services you should be offering on the "front-end," but here are some basic guidelines…

It's generally best to use one of your lower-priced offerings as your front-end service, especially when approaching "cold" prospects. It just makes sense, doesn't it? Since you don't have a strong relationship with the prospect, it's probably not wise to use your highest-ticket service on the front-end. There's too much risk for the business owner… YOU'RE STILL AN "UNKNOWN" TO THEM.

Another consideration is the time it will take to deliver the service in a "provable" fashion. Here's what I mean…

If your front-end offering is building a Google Places listing that ranks on "page one" for a particular term, it may take you 1-2 weeks (or more) to prove you have delivered the service to the client. This extended time-frame (even though it's completely reasonable) may cause your client to doubt your worth even if you've told them it may take that amount of time up front!

If you use a custom Facebook Fanpage as your front-end service, you should be able to finish the work and show your client the final results in just a few days time. This immediately helps to INCREASE the amount of trust they place in you and will help you sell other services to them over time.

So, if you have two services that are priced about the same, you may want to consider offering the service that can be delivered more quickly… just a thought.

The world of web design is complex and fraught with misinformation. Chief among them is the belief that most web designers have a solid understanding of Search Engine Optimization (aka SEO).

In truth, the exact opposite is true. Most web designers know very little about SEO and this includes those with college degrees in Website Design.

A friend of mine received a Bachelor's Degree in Web Design from a reputable University. When I asked her what she was taught concerning SEO she replied... "Not much."

They gave her their definition and spent a little time explaining the basic concepts. However, they weren't actually trained in the art and science we call SEO. They were told that work should be performed by an individual/company that specialized in Search Engine Optimization.

Video Traffic Power – This is a product of Jonathan Leger. It teaches Internet Marketers how to quickly (& cheaply) make “slide-show” type videos that can be uploaded to places like Google Video and YouTube. It’s reasonably priced and the instruction is great! Following Jon’s advice, I completed my first video in under 45 minutes and my second in about a half-an-hour.

Making these videos was a whole lot of fun and have brought me targeted visitors and subscribers… all this for free.

33 Days To Online Profits – This product comes on two CD-Roms and contains 41 videos totaling more than 3 hours of instruction. Basically, you watch over the shoulders of copywriting “superstar” Yanik Silver and Internet Marketer Jim Edwards as they teach everything from Autoresponders to Website Conversion.

The product isn’t “cheap,” but it does contain high-quality information from two guys who are making millions online. In my opinion, the best information comes as Yanik and Jim show how to write a cash-sucking sales letter! Learning to write compelling copy can make or break your online business and the instruction this product contains is solid and easy to follow.

Resell Rights For Newbies – If you don’t have a product of your own, selling “Resell Rights” products may be the best way to start. This site is a product of Liz Tomey and John Hostler and offers free membership and lots of quality instruction in regards to resell rights products.

Step #1: Keyword Research

If you intend to be successful in Internet Marketing, and I know you do, then I suggest you fall in love with Keyword Research. Why?.. Because in order to bring targeted visitors to your site (and make sales) you need to be found.

Sure, you could bring visitors to your site through Pay-Per-Click advertising (and I plan to cover how to do this effectively in an up-coming book) but it shouldn’t be your only traffic source. Successful Internet Marketers realize the importance for “multiple streams of traffic” just as much as “multiple streams of income.”

The vast majority of websites are found through the search engines. Web searchers enter their search terms (i.e. keywords) into the search engine and click the [Search] button. The search engines return web pages they believe to be relevant. Relevant to what? The Keyword that was entered!

In my opinion, you have to enjoy Keyword Research to get really good at it. I liken it to an Easter egg hunt. You have to search and dig around a bit before you find the prize. If you treat it like a game, you’ll do it more often and get better at it!

I’m going to show several ways to come up with keyword ideas. Some are free, some require a modest, one-time fee and others require an ongoing monthly membership. All are valid, but since you’ll be doing keyword research for the rest of your Internet Marketing “career,” I suggest you look into an efficient tool as the time-savings can be tremendous.
