The main focus of this section will be on reciprocal linking, IE swapping links with other sites in your market.

Reciprocal linking is an important tool for web promotion. Reciprocal Linking increases the link popularity of the web sites. Sites dealing with same business can join hands to have reciprocal linkages.

Reciprocal linking is an "I'll scratch your back if you'll scratch mine" activity. Effectiveness of reciprocal linking is growing and is sought after as the new medium of advertising on the Internet. You can set up a Links Page with link access from your homepage, and promote your URL address for the specific Reciprocal Links Page in all the major search engines.

What I didn't mention in the other sections is that you will need to create a links page on your site as well. This is where you will list all the sites that link to your site.

First of all, my background and why this book came to be...

Most PHP/MySQL books on the market that I have read were not written for the novice. To be honest, even I struggled with “PHP For Dummies”, although I’ve been working with HTML and another programming environment, ColdFusion, for years. So, WHY was PHP so hard for me? I think it was a number of things, but most of all because with HTML and ColdFusion experience, I was used to a TAG based language. For everything there was a tag, like this:

...which is a ColdFusion tag to output processed information. PHP is not based on tags like that. No, PHP more resembles a (ugh) Programming Language. If you are intimidated by that, never fear - I’m going to do my best to explain the examples in plain english!

So, who is this book for?

This book is for the lonely people who can’t get a da...hold on...wrong book...”I Hate PHP” is for webmasters and designers who have always wondered what PHP could do for them; someone who wants to “do” some PHP and not outsource it. It is best to be familiar with HTML and writing / deciphering HTML code. You don’t need to be a top-notch “I do it all in Notepad” kinda person - just being able to open up a text editor and understand the code is enough. Copy / Paste knowledge is helpful too.

Unlike other PHP books on the market, we are not going to attempt to cover every single facet of the Wide World Of PHP Language. No, we want to grasp the basics of the language, get familiar with it, and get some real-life examples...not have the whole thing shoved down our throat!

You’ll find that throughout this book, my odd sense of humor may shine through a little bit. You might not find that web programming is the most exciting thing on the planet. Well, I don’t either, so I tried to make it interesting and easy to read.

The examples in this book are presented in 3 levels - The Easy Stuff, The Not So Easy Stuff, and Oh Man Not MySQL!

The Easy Stuff consists of common PHP commands you can use on just about any site you build. The Not So Easy Stuff is code that is a little more difficult to grasp, but you might still want to use it. Oh Man Not MySQL! will cover - you guessed it - how to connect to a MySQL database and do basic things, like writing to it and retrieving information.

Before we get into learning how to use PHP, we need to briefly explore what PHP is...but I’m not going to go into some long drawn out history of PHP and why it’s here. Also, it is good to be familiar with HTML before you proceed, as you will need to be able to copy and paste code in web pages.

In the world of the wide web, there are two general types of coding languages: “Server side” and “Client side”. This means that one type is run, or interpreted, on the web server itself, and the other is run in your web browser.

PHP is a Server side language. All of the processing is done on the web server itself, and the result is delivered to your web browser as HTML (which, by the way, is a Client side language). Your web server must also have PHP installed in order for it to work! Most web hosting providers have PHP installed, so if you are in doubt, simply ask them.

Now, Let’s Code!

We’re going to tackle the basics to start with. Getting PHP to write things to the web browser, what variables are and how to use them...examples you can use in just about every web page you create.

Let’s start with the most basic one.

The PHP Echo command

We’re going to tell PHP to output something to the screen. Keep in mind that PHP can be used in conjunction with HTML, but we are not showing the code in this example, to keep it simple:

One of the difficulties with moving to another country is deciding what to do with the family pet. For some there may not be a choice as different countries have different regulations in regards to animals.

Before making a decision on what to do with your pet, consider its needs and what would be best for it. Will the animal be able to withstand travel? How old and healthy is your animal? How will the animal cope with an extensive stay in quarantine in your intended destination? Remember moving can be just as stressful for the animal as it is for you.

In the event that you do decide to take your pet with you ensure you have a thorough vet check up in which you confirm that all relevant vaccinations and immunisations are completed and up to date. During this time ask your vet to provide you with the required health certificate.

Before leaving the country ensure you provide your pet with appropriate identification including your name and contact details. To avoid problems upon arrival at your intended destination, contact the customs vet to inform them of the date and time of arrival and any other information relevant to your pet. Your chosen airline should be able to provide you with contact details for the vet.

During transportation your pet will be contained within its own carrier. Upon arrival to your destination a period of quarantine is generally required and often ranges from one month to one year.

One critical component of successful network marketing involves joining both the right company and the right upline. If the product you are attempting to sell is inferior, uncompetitive, or oversatured, you will have a considerably tougher time than you would with a highly competitive product in a relatively untouched market.

But finding the right product poses a challenge. If the product is not your own, you will have to find a business that has a network sales structure. Otherwise, you will only be able to sell the product as an affiliate for commissions, rather than recruiting other people to do that for you.

For instance, some networking structures put all new members under older members, so all those who join after a certain period of time, earn a percentage of commissions off of those who join later. If this is the case with your selected product, by choosing a good upline, you are also choosing to position yourself well to earn from all of the people your upline recruits.

So keep these two things in mind when selecting a new opportunity: find both the best business and the best upline for what you want to sell. Combining the two will significantly increase your leverage when building your new marketing network.

Let that too evolve, so it is best to keep any such situations that might lead to a bed room scene completely at bay.

So how do you do that? The first thing you should do is that you should be clear about the time. Evenings are tricky times to meet. If you have dinner together, then there comes the possibility of dropping the other person home.

And of course you can?t just accept a ride and walk away after being dropped without inviting the other person in. And then one thing will lead to the other and then the inevitable is bound to happen. Of course, if that?s the way you would like it to be then you just have to do what I just told you not to do.

Lunch time is the best time because in the day time most of us are busy with work and we can just spare an hour or a half for lunch. So you can always leave on the pretext that you have to get back to work or something like that. Very few people end up going home together after lunch. Another thing is that at lunch the element of romance does not really come in.

Take care to be at the arranged spot on time, you certainly do not want to keep a person you are meeting for the first time waiting. Dress appropriately for the occasion, keep it simple but at the same time it should be something that looks good on you.

The more that you are behind the wheel of a vehicle the more money you can save. Take a close look at your driving habits as that is the area where people end up using approximately 1/3 more fuel than they really should on the highway. It is amazing how many people are offended when they read that!

There are many great places online where you can take quizzes about your driving habits. It can give you an honest evaluation as to how aggressive you are. If you fall into a category that isn’t good then you need to accept it and make a commitment to change it. Here are some great pointers to get you rolling in the right direction.

You need to stay at a constant speed as much as you can. Pay attention to the posted speed limits and set your cruise control. You will need to slow down from time to time for the flow of traffic and such but that should still help with your fuel usage. Make sure you don’t follow being other vehicles too closely either. This stopping will decrease your speed so you will be going faster and then slower even though you aren’t exceeding the posted speed limit.

If you are one of those individuals who weaves in and out of traffic passing people and then getting back into the groove of the traffic by slowing down again you are wasting fuel. Even if you are in a hurry, such methods don’t save you very much time.

We have all seen drivers like that on the road each day. They move in and out of the traffic but then we end up catching up to them at a stoplight or on an exit ramp. This shows that this type of aggressive driving really doesn’t get you there any faster, yet it is costing you more fuel than it should to arrive at that destination.

When you stay at a constant speed you and everyone else on the road around you is much safer. You will have more control over your vehicle and other vehicles can accurately anticipate your movements. It will reduce the wear on your vehicle as well.

Now you need a website. Sure, get a free site in the beginning. People might not take you real serious, but at least you get to test and play around with your site until you’re ready to pay for one. Owning your own domain name adds credibility to your site, and there are plenty cheap hosts out there, so do that as soon as you feel ready.

Make a really fast-loading splash page from which to sell the product. You don’t have long to catch a potential customers interest, so make it fast and interesting.

Don’t fill the page with a ton of waffle. Give the most important information. What can the person get from using the product? Why is the product exactly what the person needs? What is the price etc? Give people a way to pay immediately, in case they REALLY like what they see, there and then.

If you have a LOT of information, give them a link to a "more info" page, maybe with pics and payment options. Get a small popup where people can sign up for your contact list for notices on future products. Give them a freebie in exchange for their name and email address.

Oh look, you’ve suddenly built yourself a contact list! No "leads" to buy from uncertain sources, no "harvesting" email addresses, no bugging friends and family. You did it! Now you need to keep in touch with your contacts.

Why not send them a mail asking for a little more info? Maybe a poll on what type of things they’re most interested in? If you know what your contacts are looking for, then you have something to work with. You can find whatever they need, test it out, and when you’re happy with it, say "Hey, I found something I think you may like!"

Narrow your focus. Don’t try to be "everything" to "everyone", you’ll just end up spreading yourself out way too thin. Find what works for you, what excites you, and work from there. Yes, I said "excites". We all need a bit of excitement in life, right? So why not work with something you’re excited about? If and when it stops working for you, drop it and move on.

Remember, you can do this with all kinds of programs, not just information products. It all depends on what appeals to you most. Just give it a reasonable amount of time, and stick with it. If it DOESN`T work, then hey, you’ll have learnt some things on the way, and you’ll be more ready to carry on to the next thing. Don’t give up, be determined and disciplined, and you will find the way.

The ease with which visitors are able to use a Web site is very important, especially if you’re trying to market something from the site. Usability is very much about how quickly and easily visitors are able to move around the site and not just about making sure everything on the site works.
