HOLY-CROSS DAY

ON WHICH THE JEWS WERE FORCED TO ATTEND AN ANNUAL CHRISTIAN SERMON IN ROME

[” Now was come about Holy-Cross Day, and now must my lord preach his first sermon to the Jews: as it was of old cared for in the merciful bowels of the Church, that, so to speak, a crumb at least from her conspicuous table here in Rome should be, though but once yearly, cast to the famishing dogs, under-trampled and bespitten-upon beneath the feet of the guests. And a moving sight in truth, this, of so many of the besotted blind restif and ready-to-perish Hebrews! now maternally brought-nay (for He saith, ‘Compel them to come in’) haled, as it were, by the head and hair, and against their obstinate hearts, to partake of the heavenly grace. What awakening, what striving with tears, what working of a yeasty conscience! Nor was my lord wanting to himself on so apt an occasion; witness the abundance of conversions which did incontinently reward him: though not to my lord be altogether the glory”-Diary by the Bishop’s Secretary, 1600.]

What the Jews really said, on thus being driven to church, was rather to this effect:-

I

Fee, faw, fum! bubble and squeak!

Blessedest Thursday’s the fat of the week.

Rumble and tumble, sleek and rough,

Stinking and savoury, smug and gruff,

Take the church-road, for the bell’s due chime Gives us the summons—‘tis sermon-time!

II

Boh, here’s Barnabas! Job, that’s you?

Up stumps Solomon—bustling too?

Shame, man! greedy beyond your years To handsel the bishop’s shaving-shears?

Fair play’s a jewel! Leave friends in the lurch? 10 Stand on a line ere you start for the church!

III

Higgledy piggledy, packed we lie,

Rats in a hamper, swine in a stye,

Wasps in a bottle, frogs in a sieve,

Worms in a carcase, fleas in a sleeve.

Hist! square shoulders, settle your thumbs And buzz for the bishop—here he comes.

IV

Bow, wow, wow—a bone for the dog!

I liken his Grace to an acorned hog. 20

What, a boy at his side, with the bloom of a lass,

To help and handle my lord’s hour-glass!

Didst ever behold so lithe a chine?

His cheek hath laps like a fresh-singed swine.

V

Aaron’s asleep—shove hip to haunch,

Or somebody deal him a dig in the paunch!

Look at the purse with the tassel and knob And the gown with the angel and thingumbob!

What’s he at, quotha? reading his text!

Now you’ve his curtsey—and what comes next? 30

VI

See to our converts—you doomed black dozen—

No stealing away—nor cog nor cozen!

You five, that were thieves, deserve it fairly;

You seven, that were beggars, will live less sparely;

You took your turn and dipped in the hat,

Got fortune—and fortune gets you; mind that!

VII

Give your first groan—compunction’s at work And soft! from a Jew you mount to a Turk.

Lo, Micah,--the selfsame beard on chin

He was four times already converted in! 40 Here’s a knife, clip quick—it’s a sign of grace—

Or he ruins us all with his hanging-face.

VIII

Whom now is the bishop a-leering at?

I know a point where his text falls pat.

I’ll tell him to-morrow, a word just now Went to my heart and made me vow I meddle no more with the worst of trades—

Let somebody else pay his serenades.

IX

Groan all together now, whee-hee-hee!

It’s a-work, it’s a-work, ah, woe is me! 50 It began, when a herd of us,

picked and placed, Were spurred through the Corso, stripped to the waist;

Jew brutes, with sweat and blood well spent To usher in worthily Christian Lent.

X

It grew, when the hangman entered our bounds, Yelled, pricked us out to his church like hounds:

It got to a pitch, when the hand indeed Which gutted my purse would throttle my creed:

And it overflows when, to even the odd,

Men I helped to their sins help me to their God. 60

XI

But now, while the scapegoats leave our flock,

And the rest sit silent and count the clock,

Since forced to muse the appointed time On these precious facts and truths sublime,

Let us fitly employ it, under our breath,

In saying Ben Ezra’s Song of Death.

XII

For Rabbi Ben Ezra, the night he died,

Called sons and sons’ sons to his side,

And spoke, “This world has been harsh and strange;

Something is wrong: there needeth change. 70 But what, or where? at the last or first?

In one point only we sinned, at worst.

XIII

“The Lord will have mercy on Jacob yet,

And again in his border see Israel set.

When Judah beholds Jerusalem,

The stranger-seed shall be joined to them:

To Jacob’s House shall the Gentiles cleave.

So the Prophet saith and his sons believe.

XIV

“Ay, the children of the chosen race Shall carry and bring them to their place: 80

In the land of the Lord shall lead the same Bondsmen and handmaids. Who shall blame,

When the slaves enslave, the oppressed ones o’er The oppressor triumph for evermore?

XV

“God spoke, and gave us the word to keep,

Bade never fold the hands nor sleep ‘Mid a faithless world, at watch and ward,

Till Christ at the end relieve our guard.

By His servant Moses the watch was set:

Though near upon cock-crow, we keep it yet. 90

XVI

“Thou! if thou wast He, who at mid-watch came,

By the starlight, naming a dubious name!

And if, too heavy with sleep—too rash With fear—O Thou, if that martyr-gash Fell on Thee coming to take thine own,

And we gave the Cross, when we owed the Throne—

XVII

“Thou art the Judge. We are bruised thus.

But, the Judgment over, join sides with us!

Thine too is the cause! and not more thine

Than ours, is the work of these dogs and swine, 100 Whose life laughs through and spits at their creed!

Who maintain Thee in word, and defy Thee in deed!

XVIII

“We withstood Christ then? Be mindful how At least we withstand Barabbas now!

Was our outrage sore? But the worst we spared,

To have called these—Christians, had we dared!

Let defiance to them pay mistrust of Thee,

And Rome make amends for Calvary!

Unleash The Creative New You PLR Ebook

One of the biggest reasons why you might not nurture your creative side is fear - fear of making a mistake, fear of not getting something exactly right, fear, fear, and more fear. "What if I mess up?" "What if people laugh at me?" ?What if this is just a foolish notion?" Unfortunately, that is going to happen. Everybody fails sometimes; but it‘s okay. Failure isn‘t fatal or permanent. Even Thomas Edison had some failures and it took him many trials before he perfected the light bulb. He didn‘t consider them as failures; however, he just found many great ways that didn‘t work. But he persevered and eventually, he succeeded.

Never fear making mistakes. Remember that perfectionism is a deterrent to your creativity. (More on that in a later chapter.) Albert Einstein noted "A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new." Don‘t let fear keep you from being creative. You won‘t learn as much from winning as you will from losing. Your mistakes teach you much more than your triumphs do.

The upside of not succeeding right away is that we often encounter the magical "serendipity." Serendipity is the ability to make unexpected and fortunate discoveries. It is simply accidental good fortune. What you fear to be a dreadful mistake might instead turn out to be the perfect answer to the problem.

Do insights come suddenly or are they in your subconscious, just waiting to leap upon the stage of your consciousness? That‘s hard to say. You might call it mere chance, coincidence, pure randomness, or complete unpredictability. How the creative thought gets to you is not the issue. Seizing upon the new idea is what‘s important.

Sometimes, you need to go outside the box in your thinking. Do something completely different. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly the same way, but expecting a different outcome. That‘s where creative thinking comes in. Think of the same problem, but in a different way. Turn it on its side, or on its head. Look at the whole thing from different angles. Take an entirely different approach to the question. Oliver Wendell Holmes taught us "Man‘s mind stretched to a new idea, never goes back to its original dimensions." Thank goodness for that!

About Franchising Resale Rights Ebook

Are you wondering what the hottest franchising trends are? Much of the recent success in that area is traceable to two demographic trends: Americans are getting older and feeling pressed for time. Doesn’t sound too bright, but it mean booming business in franchising circles.

Now I am by no means a Franchise Guru. I’ve never owned one, worked for one, or even considered one and for good reasons. First, when I started my publishing and publicity business I wasn’t flush financially enough to pay the “freight” on a franchise. Secondly, it seems too much like working for another corporate business to me. Things are done their way or no way, and you work for two – you and the piece the company takes. That doesn’t mean that it can’t be your cup of tea, because many entrepreneurs love franchises.

I’m not going to expound as a franchise expert, but rather I’ll give you the facts about the hottest ones to look at if you like franchises. Despite the status of the economy it seems the most stunning growth in franchises in 2004 has been in the senior-care segment. Seven senior-care companies ranked in the top 500 in Entrepreneur magazine have grown a total of 370 units in one year, and almost 39% in the past year.

Experts say that despite the large increases, this market hasn’t peaked yet. By 2010, 39 million Americans will be 65 or older, and that’s almost 20% of the North American population. About 30% of non-institutionalized seniors live alone, per the Dept. of Health and Human Services Administration on Aging. Many of them need extra help at home or companionship.

As the nation ages and boomers turn 60, this segment of the population will grow. “Elder care will replace child care as the number one social issue,” predicts Jeff Huber, vice president of Home Instead Senior Care – a franchise that grew from 356 to 448 units this past year.

The next hottest area is kids. Parents want their kids to have fun and be well-educated and will spend money to ensure this in good times and in bad. Children’s products and services segment of franchises have grown steadily over the year and become one of the top 5 overall categories in term of unit size in 2004.

What’s changed? Spending on children is now being fueled not only by baby-boomers, but by Generation X – a group that has $736 billion in spending power. Another change in the market in the past 25 years is the increase in dual-career families. According to some in the industry, this is an ideal time to enter the education sector of franchises for kids.

Before you say you can’t build web pages, let me tell you two things. First, if you say you can’t, you can’t, if you say you can you can. Put your mind to it and do it. Second, being able to build a web site or at least be able to edit a web page template is vital to your business. Unless you have the money to pay someone else (which like I said is VERY expensive), you’ll never get ahead.

Okay, so what are we going to put on our product promotion site, and what is its function.

Your product promotion site will include every product and/or service you offer that can be promoted by your affiliates. It will be used as a home base for your affiliates where they can see what products you are offering for promotion, what you pay for sales generated by affiliates for your products and/or services, where your affiliates can get all their promotional materials for your products and/or services, and training materials.

Yes, this is a lot, but remember how much affiliates have made me? Being that successful takes time and work. If you aren’t willing to put time and work into this, you’ll never succeed with it.

Marketing With Coupons MRR Ebook

Now that you know how to create coupons for offline marketing, let’s talk about where you can advertise your coupons offline.

The most important thing to remember about advertising either online or offline is you need to advertise to your target market. So, when looking for places to advertise your offline coupon, only advertise in places that you target market looks in.

If you are advertising your coupon on car detailing, you don’t want to advertise it in the personal ads section of your newspaper, you want to advertise it the Auto section of your paper.

If you are advertising your ebook on how to make money, you don’t want to advertise it in a magazine about remodeling. You’d want to find a magazine that was geared towards opportunity seekers, or home based business enthusiasts.

Finding targeted advertising is much easier offline than online in my opinion. It’s not instantaneous like online advertising, but I think you can reach your market with it much better.

The best places to advertise offline are in print publications. Putting a coupon in a print publication is one of the best ways to spend your offline advertising dollars. Find a print publication that fits your target market, place your coupon ad in that publication, and I am sure you will be pleased with the results.

Another way I have used print coupons is by mailing them to my mailing list. Let me explain exactly how I do this.

Online I have a customer mailing list. When they buy something from me, they supply their mailing address. Instead of emailing them my offer, I simply make the coupons like I did in the video above, print them out and mail the coupons to their home address.

Now I DO NOT suggest that you just send one little coupon out in an envelope. That’s a waste of advertising space. You could also make a full-page ad for other things you are offering. Print it out and also include it in the envelope with their coupon.

I’ve been doing this exact same thing since 1998, and believe me if it didn’t make me a lot of money, I wouldn’t waste my time.

Again, these are just a few ways you can offer your coupons offline. I’m sure you’ll get more and more ideas once you start using your coupons offline.

Creating coupons for your online promotions will take a little bit of technical skills, but don’t let that scare you. To do the basics (which is all most people need) won’t take much at all.

In the next section I am going to give you two places you can advertise your coupons online right now for free. I first want to cover some other ways you can advertise your coupons online first.

You can place an image of your coupon on your site, and let people know that by purchasing today or for the next X amount of days, they will get a discount. When they click on the coupon, they are taken to your special discount page where they can purchase what you are offering at the special coupon price.

(If you need someone to design an eye catching coupon for you, I suggest you contact my friend, Dima at nitrocovers@hotmail. Dima owns NitroCovers and is an EXCEPTIONAL graphics designed. He also charges about 70% less than what most designers charge. He can make a GORGEOUS coupon that will catch the attention of all your visitors. Just tell him Liz Tomey sent you.)

Advertise your coupon in your email signature line or signature line you use in forums.

Now this is a top secret advertising technique that is getting ready to storm the Internet. Say goodbye to expensive pay-per-click services. You can now advertise in laser targeted information products by going to ViralEbookAds

This site will allow you to pick your target market from a list that they have. Find a product that matches your target market, place your coupon in that product and you will have unlimited lifetime exposure to your target market. How does it work? Well, you can visit ViralEbookAds, and see, but it’s really simple.

Different information products are developed at this site on several different topics. Webmasters and ezine owners give away or sell these products to people who are interested in these topics. Inside the products are ads that are viewed by everyone who downloads and uses/reads the products. Therefore the ads inside are being seen by 1000’s of different people who are interested in that topic.

Can you find advertising that is that laser targeted anywhere else online? Yes, but not at the low prices ViralEbookAds charges!

I know I just got done “bashing” pay per click advertising, but if you are really good at it, you can make a lot of money from using it. I have used pay per click advertising to advertise my coupons, and I’ve done better advertising them than anything else I have advertised. However, I didn’t get the HUGE results I expected. Again, if you really know how to use pay per click advertising well, I recommend using it to advertise your coupons. If not, then I suggest staying away from it.

While compiling this course, a man named Craig Axiaq contacted me. I knew that using coupons was a very powerful technique, but new that I would really open people’s eyes with this course.

There are many different ways to accept credit cards on your web site and it is essential that you do. (Research figures suggest that you could lose up to 90% of your sales if you are unable to accept credit cards)

Option 1 is to apply for Internet merchant account with your bank but this can be costly and many applications are refused for first time businesses. You will more than likely be asked to provide trading histories etc. and if this is your first adventure in business you will not have these. More importantly because your main product is non-tangible, (you'll be selling electronic data and not shippable goods), you may find that many banks will be reluctant to deal with you.

If they do it's likely that they will enforce high set up charges and worse, excessively high commission charges on each order.

Option 2 the easy, low cost alternative, and the route I suggest is a virtual merchant account. There are now many companies that will act on your behalf and collect and process payments for you. You sign up with them and they mail you checks weekly, fortnightly, monthly or when your sales reach a certain value.

These companies provide what is often referred to as a virtual merchant service. I'm sure there are many excellent virtual merchant service providers around but I have been unable to find a better or more reliable service than that offered by ClickBank.

ClickBank works as an online billing solution, it's used by thousands of web businesses that deliver unique products or services over the Internet itself (via web pages, files, or email). You will be doing this yourself when you sell e-books. Here's how it works.

ClickBank enables the real-time sales of your digital goods or services and provides international fraud screening by ccScan®. To save you time and trouble they also handle all customer billing, billing inquiries, bank inquiries and process all of your sales volume. This makes it easy for people to buy your e-books and allows you to concentrate on your web site and your ebooks. I've used this service a long time and never had any problems even better set up is quick and easy.

I have always had trouble with writing and spelling. I remember when I was in 12th Grade my writing and spelling were still so poor that I could not spell 'does' correctly. I spelled it 'dose' and could not recognize that this was wrong. My English teacher got upset with me, thinking I was just too lazy to look words up.

I explained that I try but sometimes I spelled the words so wrongly that I could not find them in the dictionary. She made me cry, feel bad, and bought me my first 'bad spellers' dictionary. However, I still couldn't find words sometimes, even with this dictionary. She told me to read more, and so I did. I read and kept journals of all the words I did not know, and I practiced them, spelling and definitions.

I have gotten much better, but I still have trouble when asked to write something freehand in stressful situations such as job interview writing samples. I find myself constantly second-guessing whether or not I spelled the simplest words correctly.

Although I have managed to be quite successful, given my difficulties academically, I am concerned about my ability to do as well at a higher level in my career. I am concerned that this kind of problem will keep me from getting the kinds of jobs I would like to have and that I would do well.

Another thing I have noticed is that people I know seem to be able to read a word once or twice and then just be able to spell it correctly. It is like I have to see the word ten to twenty times before I can spell it correctly. I often read words wrongly, even words I am familiar with.

Despite this disability I know that I must continue to practice and strive towards getting better at spelling and recognizing any mistakes I may be making. Thanks to these a number of tips I received I’m much more confident. I know it's hard at times but my drive is what carries me and my will to be successful in my life and in my career.

Red Hot Investments MRR Ebook

What’s your take on unfashionable investments? Investments and markets that are so hated that they are rarely talked about – that have little or no mention in the financial media and near the bottom of their trend graphs…?

I like them…sometimes. They are the ones with ten bagger potential – gains of 1000% and more within a reasonable space of time. I say “sometimes” because all too often, investments are hated due to good reason – there’s a lot of wisdom in the price of any given market.

But the market does get it wrong sometimes. At any given time there are investments that should be far higher than their market price – a correction will happen at some time and that’s why I love looking at hated investments. Listing them. Waiting for the tide to turn. And getting in well before the crowd when the indicators are right.

That’s exactly why the commodities market has been on my radar for some time now – here’s a terrible performer that has performed sickly over the past two decades - adjusted for inflation the value of commodities investments during this period has declined significantly. And let me ask you something – aside from small pockets (such as gold & oil) how much attention do you see general commodities getting? Do you see books about them when you peruse the investment section at your local bookshop? Do you hear your friends boasting about their most recent commodities investment? No – because at the moment, despite the fact that prices are now moving north with some conviction, commodities are still unloved…and if as I believe they will continue to rise, this could be the start of a longer term commodities bull run and a very good time to invest.

Did you know that commodities prices have been heading upwards, almost un-noticed for some time now? Coffee, copper, wood and sugar are just a handful of the commodities that have enjoyed between 40% to 80% price growth per year in recent times. The exciting thing is that this could be just the start of a long commodities bull run – and when you think that the majority of the investment world still avoids commodities like the plague, there could be exciting times when the world finally wakes up to smell the coffee…quite literally.

How To headlines have a very strong basic appeal, but in some instances, they're better used as book titles than advertising headlines. Who Else wants in on the finer things - which your product or service presumably offers - is another approach with a very strong reader appeal. The psychology here being the need of everyone to belong to a group - complete with status and prestige motivations.

Whenever, and as often as you can possible work it in, you should use the word "you" in your headline, and throughout your copy. After all, your ad should be directed to "one" person, and the person reading your ad wants to feel that you're talking to him personally, not everyone who lives on his street.

Personalize, and be specific! You can throw the teachings of your English teachers out the window, and the rules of "third person, singular" or whatever else tends to inhibit your writing. Whenever you sit down to write advertising copy intended to pull the orders - sell the product - you should picture yourself in a one-on-one situation and "talk" to your reader just as if you were sitting across from him at your dining room table. Say what you mean, and sell HIM on the product your offering. Be specific and ask him if these are the things that bother him - are these the things he wants - and he's the one you want to buy the product...

The layout you devise for your ad, or the frame you build around it, should also command attention. Either make it so spectacular that it stands out like lobster at a chili dinner, or so uncommonly simple that it catches the reader's eye because of its very simplicity. It's also important that you don't get cute with a lot of unrelated graphics and artwork. Your ad should convey the feeling of excitement and movement, but should not tire the eyes or disrupt the flow of the message you are trying to present.

Any graphics or artwork you use should be relevant to your product, it's use and/or the copy you have written about it. Graphics should not be used as artistic touches, or to create an atmosphere. Any illustrations with your ad should compliment the selling of your product, and prove or substantiate specific points in your copy.

Once you have your reader's attention, the only way you are going to keep it, is by quickly and emphatically telling him what your product will do for him. Your potential buyer doesn't care in the least how long it's taken you to produce the product, how lone you have been in business, nor how many years you've spend learning your craft. He wants to know specifically how he is going to benefit form the purchase of your product.

Generally, his wants will fall into one of the following categories: Better health, more comfort, more money, more leisure time, more popularity, greater beauty, success and/or security.

Even though you have your reader's attention, you must follow through with an enumeration of the benefits you can gain. In essence, you must reiterate the advantages, comfort and happiness he'll enjoy - as you have implied in your headline.

Mentally picture your prospect - determine his wants and emotional needs - put yourself in his shoes, and ask yourself: If I were reading this ad, what are the things that would appeal to me? Write your copy to appeal to your reader's wants and emotional needs/ego cravings.
