Chapter 8: Taking care of yourself

Synopsis

Breakups can be very painful, as someone you loved and spent time with the most, now rejects you, or that someone who once loved you the most no longer does. Since you cannot reverse the breakup, it is time for you to lift your spirits up, be strong, and survive the relationship. It can be hard to pick yourself up, but you can start with the first step - taking care of yourself.

Take Care

Do not let yourself fall sick. Do not allow the negative feelings and emotions to affect your physical health. Avoid thinking too much. Do not get too depressed as it could make you become physically weary, which may affect your daily routines. Most importantly, get enough rest and sleep.

Avoid self-destructive habits. Do not take drugs. Do not start smoking heavily, or become drunk often. These will never help you to feel better; instead, it may destroy you, over time. Do also bear in mind, beside your ex, there are people out there who still care and love you, especially your family and friends.

Do not fool around with love. Before you fully understand and handle the breakup, do not rush into the next relationship; do not go around sleeping with others, just because you want to get back at your ex or because you feel no one cherish you anymore. Please respect yourself, and do not lower your self-esteem.

Keep up with your daily routines. After the breakup, release your emotions. Cry hard, be sulky, and be angry but don’t indulge in these for too long. Get back to your daily routines as soon as possible. Getting back to normal or even become a better person is better for you and those around you. Learn to focus on happy thoughts and actions.

Chapter 9: Moving on & start a new lifestyle

Synopsis

Staying positive is the best way to heal your pain and recover from a bad breakup. Do not let yourself falls deeper into depression after the breakup, and you must understand that there could be others who depend on you - your working partner, your colleagues, your family and friends, or your children. There are many great things in future ready for you to discover and own them.

Move On

Get away. You may consider changing your working location, or settle your life somewhere else. Go overseas for further studies or better job opportunities if you can. This is a good way of getting rid of thoughts of the breakup and living with past memories.

Chapter 4: Complicating simple things

Synopsis

One of the main reasons of breakups is complicating simple things, which is not wise, and it effects communication. Why are you being too serious over little matters in life? You can avoid complicating simple things by having positive thoughts or keep this in your mind, “I still love him/her”.

What Complicating Simple Things Will Do Between

You and Your Partner

Never try to get away with it. For example, your partner never likes your habit of not placing your dishes in the basin after meals. If you keep repeating this habit despite him/her feeling irritated, just out of spite, imagine how things may get worse if it never meet came to an end.

Intensify stress in life. It is already pressuring with the busy daily schedules, so why make it more complicated and stressful when you are close with someone you love? A relationship occurs when you know that you can depend on him/her for happiness and relax from the pressures in life. Try to keep everything just as simple as it is.

Do not enjoy being together. Simple actions such as a call from your partner saying, “I miss you” would probably make his/her day. If you start pondering on whether your partner is cheating on you and trying to buy your love, you will miss the great feeling of him/her cherishing you. Soon, you will get frustrated with your partner easily, especially when you keep this kind of feelings to yourself.

Raise suspicions towards each other. Your partner is away for business and you think he is having another lover. She loves to add prawns in her cooking and you just feel that she does this on

purpose, because she knows you are allergic to it. If you find something is wrong, stop thinking about it and bring it up in a open discussion. Ask or talk to him/her to clarify the matter.

Chapter 5: Applying assumptions

Synopsis

This is one great advice to maintain a long-lasting relationship -never assume. Never make assumptions. Things may not have happened according to what you think it. You may be disappointed whenever something happens, or the situation might get worse with your reaction or expression. You apply assumptions in your relationship when:

Your judgment is based on your past experiences. You doubt your partner when the way he/she acts shows signs of him/her cheating on you according to your previous relationship experiences. Try to let go of the past when you are with your current partner. He/she is nothing like your ex.

You neglect others’ points of view. You think it is this way. You thought it goes like that. When these thoughts are repeated over and over in your mind, you tend to forget your partner’s true intentions and how the real situation truly was.

Your pride blurs your vision. You think you know it all and it is easy to predict what will happen next. Well, you are wrong; you cannot predict relationships like movies or dramas. Try to avoid developing self-pride or thinking highly of yourself, and start considering your partner’s feelings.

You think you are communicating well with your partner. You think you convey your message well and your partner understands you. You think you tell it right. It is always best to prepare or think twice before you speak or act to avoid such assumptions.

You think your partner is happy being with you. Therefore, you forget to treat your partner better than before and may neglect his/her wishes and needs. Different people stay in relationships for different reasons. Make sure you maintain an effective communication with your partner to understand fully his/her intentions or thoughts.

CHAPTER 7 - TAKE TIME TO ENJOY THE SIMPLE THINGS IN LIFE

One of the perils of living in an always connected world is falling into the trap of thinking that our happiness rests on the latest technological marvel or gadget. That getting more Facebook "likes" will somehow make us more happy and successful.

This is far from true as anyone who has pursued those things could tell you - if they're being honest.

Now the simple things in life, that's where happiness lies. When you take the time to acknowledge them you can become almost instantly a more happier and less anxious person.

Morning Coffee.

Talk about a great morning companion that never lets you down. Now some may prefer tea, but the principle is the same. Having that little harmless boost in the morning is something to be enjoyed and relished. Think about how much less we'd get done without it!

A Good Book.

Sitting back and relaxing with a good book in hand is something that, thankfully, the digital age still hasn't managed to take from us. Novel or non-fiction alike the effects of reading are to not only make us a bit smarter, but also serve as a sort of meditation. I love a good

movie as much as the next person, but reading and happiness truly come hand in hand.

A Good Laugh.

Yes, laughter is the best medicine. Each and every day there's the opportunity to enjoy a good laugh. This is a simple pleasure even babies get to enjoy! This may be one of the simplest pleasures, but it's also one of the best. When things are tough finding something to laugh about can break a downward emotional spiral and have you looking at the bright side of things again. Laugh loud and laugh often!

Spending Time With A Pet.

Dogs and cats can both be man's best friend. Did you know there's been studies that spending time playing with a dog or cat has even been shown to lower high blood pressure? If this doesn't prove my point nothing will! A dog or a cat are an important reminder to the simple pleasures of life and the joys of unconditional love. Give yours an extra treat today.

Watching the Sunset.

It's hard to explain why watching the sunset can bring so many of us peace. Maybe it's a throwback to our days when man (and woman) lived closer to nature. Rather than rushing home to get dinner ready, why not take a minute to look outside and bask in nature's beauty. It's a simple joy we should all be happy to be able to witness again and again.

An Uncluttered Home.

Call me a neat freak, but I love the serenity that comes along with having a neat house or apartment - especially the bedroom. This always inspires a smile and the ability to cool down from life's stresses more effectively. If you surround yourself with chaos, it may be a simple and cost free way you can free up some energy blockages and experience more happiness every day. Why not give it a try?

CHAPTER 8 - EXERCISE AND NUTRITION BREEDS HAPPINESS

One of the most important parts of my life is health and fitness. Without any doubt training and eating well bring me a ton of happiness. Back in the early days of planning this Guide this love for exercise left me wondering is this just a personal hobby of mine or was something deeper occurring.

Well I dug into the topic of exercise, nutrition and happiness and the research is really exciting stuff! We could probably devote a whole new Guide to it one day its so important!

There's been a stack of recent studies from some of the top Universities in the world that show without a doubt the more we exercise the happier we'll be. Just as a quick example, Stanford University's research showed that the act of moving around (running or walking) and some resistance training, almost killed incidents of depression in the students studied. These weren't full force athletes either. The level of athletic performance was irrelevant. Just being physical was enough for them to have happier lives!

The rest of the studies I've looked at are just as positive. Maybe more importantly, this research is backed up by my own life experiences as well as those of the people I know. I'm sure yours confirms it too.

So if we'd like to really achieve happiness, we need to adopt a lifestyle where exercise and nutrition are truly a priority.

Keep these things in mind, especially if you've been sedentary for a period of time and need some extra guidance in getting back into shape.

Pace Yourself.

If you are out of shape, start off slow. This makes it much more likely you will be able to stick with your new approach to exercise and fitness. Even walking thirty minutes a day and doing pushups and crunches while cutting out junk food is a nice beginning. After this join a gym and get even more serious.

Don't Be Afraid To Ask For Help.

Many people aren't sure how to put together a workout program or diet. This is hardly an obstacle at all, unless you allow it to be one. There's no shortage of good Guides on the subject that will tell you all you need to know and do. You could even hire a personal trainer for a few sessions if your finances allow. You are investing in both your health and happiness so believe me this is money well spent!

Expect Sudden Benefits.

Just through the dopamine boost from regular exercise sessions you can expect almost instant mental benefits. It may take some time to see the results in the mirror, certainly, but feeling happier will likely hit you right away!

Dopamine is the so-called "happy chemical" and nothing brings it on like breaking a sweat.
