Chapter Seven: Terrorism

Be Aware

The cowardly act of terrorism against the US on September 11,2001 was probably one of the worst every witnessed in a single day. The US quickly united as one to respond to the horror and the threat to its citizens.

Not since the bombing of Pearl Harbor had we seen such an invasion or violation of our homeland. Now we know that there is a major threat to our lives out there and we know that the threat is very real. No longer do we feel totally safe on our own soil. More importantly, we realize just how vulnerable we are. However, we also know that our government took swift action to implement programs that ensure our safety. We now have a security force known as the Department of Homeland Security who is working hard to protect our country and its citizens.

With this new threat to live with, we need to do our part to combat terrorism as well. We don’t need to enforce strict rules that inhibit our freedom, but we need to keep our eyes and ears open at all times and be aware of who is around us. While the thought of terrorists existing in our own country scares the life out of us, we cannot live our lives in fear. We are not a fearful people, never have been and never will be.

We cannot and must not ever give in to terrorists. They want us to live in fear. They want us to stay home jumping at shadows. They want to rob us of the freedoms we have come to take for granted. But as Americans, we simply won’t let them!

We need to be vigilant when we are out and about. I’m not saying that we need to be constantly looking over our shoulders, too afraid to move. However, by just observing the people around us, we are more likely to notice someone acting suspicious because they will stand out in the crowd. We can’t leave the hard work to the government alone; we all have a vested interest in ridding our country of terrorists that live and work among us or of those who dare to invade our country.

There have been many changes that have taken place in this country since the 911 attack. While they may infringe on our freedoms a bit, they are all necessary. The biggest changes affected our ability to travel freely. Airports now have tight security measures in place that are important to our safety even though they may slow down the process of getting on our flights quickly. Unfortunately these things are necessary and the way that we can help is through tolerance and patience.

America has received a wake up call to take notice of credible threats against this country. Meanwhile, we need to work with and appreciate the increased security. It is being done to benefit all Americans. Instead of being part of the problem, we all need to be part of the solution so that we can all enjoy our freedoms fully once again. Above all we need to be AWARE!

Be Prepared

No one was prepared for the horror of 911. After all, things like that just don’t happen in the good old USA, or so we thought. During the aftermath, President Bush acted swiftly to put the necessary safeguards in place to prevent this type of tragedy from happening again. He created the Department of Homeland Security, tightened up security at our airports and basically tightened security throughout our country. City and towns across the country went about creating disaster or security plans as well. The thought now was let’s be prepared to handle another attack of this type.

That’s a pretty tall order since you are trying to prepare for something that has no immediate defined parameters.

We have no way of telling if or when another attack may occur, who will attack us, or where it will happen. But those variables shouldn’t stop us from being prepared in the event that something of this magnitude happen in our country again.

Suicide Bombings

Since the 911 attack, there has been a severe threat of more "suicide bombings” on the United States. As a matter of fact, government specialists predict it to be the next type of attack we could witness in this country. This is not a new phenomenon and has played a significant role in past history. Take for instance the Kamikaze pilots in World War II or the bombers targeting Israeli people or even the 911 bombers who all used planes as weapons of destruction and terror.

The purpose of suicide bombers is to cause as much causality as possible. What better way to do that then to target large public areas and buildings where a lot of people will be at one given time? By using a plane as their method of ensuring the most deaths possible, they can meet their objectives with great success.

So how can you possibly recognize a suicide bomber among us? Well, it is not an easy task to do. They are the most difficult type of terrorist to identify. But there are things that you can learn to do to increase your chances of survival in case of a terrorist attack.

One of the best ways to push a viral marketing campaign is to allow other people to add their own information right into your product. For instance, you could create an e-book and then give your customers a way to add their name and website URL on the front page. You might also allow them to insert their referral IDs into any affiliate links you have placed within the book. Rebrandable info products create a win-win situation for both you and your customers. Consider this scenario.

You create a special report promoting your product or favorite business opportunity. You then use specialized software to make the report rebrandable so your affiliates/downline can add their name and affiliate IDs in place of yours.

Your affiliates and/or downline now have a good reason for distributing the report to their contacts. When people who receive the report use the links within to purchase a product or join an opportunity, both you and your distributors will benefit from this action.

At the time of this writing, there are a couple of options available for making your PDF product rebrandable. I use a tool called Viral PDF to create rebrandable info products for my own viral marketing campaigns. I’ve created some very nice results with rebrandable products. However, you should understand this technology is far from flawless.

Viral PDF occasionally disrupts the arrangement of your text, and can also cause false error messages when opening documents with Adobe Reader. I still use and recommend this tool, but I did want to make you aware of these two drawbacks.

If you've blogged before or done any research on blogging, you've probably heard that you should ping your blog. In short, pinging sends a notification to several news syndication services that you've updated content in your blog or your website.

The “blog and ping” strategy increases your Google Page Rank (which correlates to a higher search engine ranking), increased traffic and more exposure to your content.

The problem is that people have become shortsighted. They believe “blog and ping” go hand in hand. No! This is totally false. Any source that provides an RSS feed can be “pinged.”

Chapter 6 - Therapy To Treat Depression

If you visit your family doctor and ask for something to help you over your depression, he or she will most likely give you Zoloft.. They will ask you why you are depressed and you can say that you didn ft like the outcome of the last season of American Idol and they will write you out a prescription.

Doctor fs take a lot of heat for being prescription handy. But they are only doing the job that the legal field has trained them to do. See, if you go into the doctor fs office and complain about being depressed over American Idol and the doctor tells you to get a grip on yourself and dismisses you without a prescription and you go home and hang yourself because of American Idol, the doctor is liable for a lawsuit. Because medical protocol requires a doctor to offer medication to any patient who presents complaining of depression.

If your doctor is a good family doctor, he or she will suggest that you speak to a therapist about your depression. He or she may also want to get you out of their office as soon as possible and suggest that you see a psychiatrist. Your doctor is not telling you this because he or she thinks you are crazy and need to be committed, but simply because he or she does not specialize in mental health issues.

Before we go any further, you need to understand the difference between a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a counselor and a therapist. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor. He goes to medical school and has an M.D. He then decides to specialize in mental illness. A psychiatrist normally works in a hospital. He takes care of patients in mental wards as well as those who have substance abuse problems.

The main reason why a person sees a psychiatrist is to get prescription drugs. Because he is a medical doctor, he can prescribe drugs. The idea of laying on a sofa talking about your mother while the psychiatrist takes notes is something that you see in the movies. A psychiatrist is very clinical. He may test you for diseases of the mind, but will not want to hear how your brother taking your stuffed bunny when you were seven ruined your life. He will refer you to a counselor.

A psychologist is a step above a therapist. He or she usually has a PhD in psychology. He or she did not go to medical school but graduate school. Big difference is that they cannot prescribe medicine. They are very in tune with mental health issues, however, and make great counselors. The problem is that they charge too much money. Most people opt for counselors.

If you think Banner Exchanges are the same thing as link exchanges, you’re right, sort of. They are the same, with one exception. Banner Exchanges use graphical banners instead of text. Simple concept, eh?

People tend to notice graphics quickly where they will overlook text while skimming a page. I am a “skimmer” myself, so if a headline doesn’t catch my eye or a graphic banner doesn’t look interesting to me, I won’t give it a second look.

Using banner exchanges are a little bit more difficult only because of the code necessary to make them work. Most people prefer to link to the images that your banner uses instead of storing those images on their server. This is because they prefer to save their space for their own images and pages. When doing a banner exchange, you have to make sure that your link in the code goes to the actual file that is your banner image.

Everything else using banner exchanging is just as simple as using a link exchange. You need to follow the same principles outlined above as well as make sure to organize your banner exchanges too. There are “banner farms” just as there are link farms and you can fall into the same problems with them.

Don’t overlook the power of banner exchanges. There are websites that specialize in locating other webmasters that share the same topics as you do. They will help you set up a banner exchange with other webmasters for an administration fee. I usually do banner exchanges on my own though so that I can be sure of where my banner is going and I have the opportunity to talk to the webmaster personally.

There is one potential downside to Banner exchanges, bandwidth theft. Here’s an example: A Banner consists of a regular HTML based hyperlink, just like a text link, and a graphical photo or picture. Suppose you have a really nice banner, and you and another webmaster agree to do a Banner Exchange.

The picture that represents your graphical banner can be small, medium, or large in size depending on the resolution, size, and complexity of the graphics it contains.

When you send your banner to the other webmaster you will, more than likely send him a snippet of HTML code to include on his link page and the appropriate graphic to accompany it. He should also send you the same.
